When Was The Last Time You Met An Angel In Disguise?

Two Legged Angels

I have met many “angels” in my life. They come in all sorts of shapes, sizes and forms.

An email from a prayer group friend, I will call Bill (not his real name), got me thinking about this when he sent an email to our group entitled “When was the last time you met an angel?”

For Bill it had been the night before he wrote the message to our group. He stated that his daughter’s car battery had died, so he went home to replace it. Then later in the evening, in the middle of a family crisis on another subject, her car died again in the Wal-Mart parking lot. They had to take care of that other crisis first and then went to check on her car. Bill tried to jump start it, but that didn’t work. A test showed that the battery was fully charged, which meant that the starter had probably gone out. It looked like they would be facing a tow and labor costs plus parts. From out of nowhere a young man came up to help them push her car into a parking spot covered by cameras and lights so it would be safe through the night. And as they were thanking him, he said, “Yep, your starter is out.” Bill asked him how much he thought it would cost to fix it and he responded “20 to 30 bucks” plus the part if you can meet me here tomorrow.” They were amazed to find that a complete stranger was right there on the spot, who just happens to love working on cars, has his own tools, and will do it right there in the parking lot for only 20 to 30 dollars. Nothing can convince my friend Bill that God wasn’t in that!!! He concluded his message to us stating “Last night, we were sent an angel and he is fixing her car today. Thank you Lord for ALWAYS being there whether we know we need you or not.”

I have experienced this before myself. One time that comes to mind, I was with my kids at the gas station and my car wouldn’t restart so we decided to try to roll start it. With me in the car behind the wheel, and my two young boys behind the car attempting to push it, suddenly there were two strong teenage boys beside them helping to give the car the momentum needed to get it going fast enough to ignite the battery and start up the engine.

Angels With Four Legs

Many of us have full time four legged angels that live with us. They comfort us, play with us, love us, and follow us around our homes and where ever else we take them with wagging tails of adoration. We call them “pets”. There is a You Tube video my mom shared with me that is one of my all time favorites. It’s by Wendy J. Francisco and it’s entitled “God and Dog”. The clip lasts just over a minute and a half. It’s adorable and very fun to watch.

The cartoon version is the one my mom sent me, but I happened to come across another version of it with a German Shepherd starring in it (I recommend watching the cartoon version first). The one with the shepherd makes me cry because it reminds me of Maddie, my own German Shepherd, who is no longer with us. I am sharing her photo (below) even though every time I see her image there is still a sadness that washes over me because I miss her so much. It hasn’t been a full year yet without her in my life. I can’t look at her photos for long without tearing up. She was my garden companion who followed me around and watched out for my safety. She alerted me when there was a snake in the area, and listened if I told her to leave it. My neighbor was amazed to see her release a baby rabbit on my command and then dolefully watch as it hopped away and escaped. She was a good dog in every way and a very smart and obedient one. German Shepherd’s are known for being one of the most intelligent breeds and she was proof of this. When I was depressed she could sense it and would come over and lay her head to rest on my knee. Nothing is more comforting when you are feeling down than having a dog’s head in your lap. They are great therapists; they know how to listen and don’t need to say a word to get their point across. Their eyes do their talking and relay their messages to us more effectively than words ever could. Dogs love us unconditionally closer to the way God loves than the way most humans do. They want to be with us, and hate to see us go. They’re always glad when we come home and until they get too old, will meet us dependably every time at the door.

My angel "Maddie" who is waiting to greet me at the pearly gates.

Susan Ream from Michigan on June 29, 2012:

Oh my goodness, I don't think it an accident to find your hub tonight. I just finished writing part two of miracle stories that have happened in my life. Angels are real and they do show up in time of need.

It's a joy to meet another sister in the Lord. I look forward to knowing you better through your pages.

Thank youRolly A Chabot. I appreciate your comment greatly and agree that dogs are definitely loyal and loving. Maddie was devoted to me and as much as she possibly could she stayed at my side. I have a cat now that I love too, though she is a more independent angel and nowhere near as obedient as Maddie was.

Rolly A Chabot from Alberta Canada on June 28, 2012:

Thanks for this wonderful hub and it is a great read to close the day with thinking of the Angels we find in life when we least expect them. Small or great acts of kindness are a wonderful thing to do for people. I have often said we can learn much from our dogs because they are so loyal and loving...

Hugs from Canada

Wonderful hub dear heart. Loved every bit of it especially the great pictures of Maddie. Yep he is waiting in Heaven for you.

My father in law was like and angel. He was the best automobile mechanic in the world. He loved working on cars so much that he would fall to sleep in his work clothes on his armchair.

He would help people on the highways for free. He would take and entire engine apart for free. He would pull cars off the road for free. Expert mechanics use to call him up for advice. He died, and is probably in Heaven.

Wonderful hub. GBY.

Thank you Lady E. for your encouraging message - I am sad for you over the passing of your mother. The loss of a loved one is one of life's most difficult blows. I pray for God's strong arms of compassion to be heart felt for you right now so you can feel Him there holding you.

Elena from London, UK on June 15, 2012:

Thanks for sharing beautiful/inspiring stories and sorry to hear about Maddie. I believe in such Angels and maybe I have met a few but not known. I would really love to meet a few Angels in Disguise at the moment though, as my mum passed away last month, but I would want the Angel to stay forever. It would be comforting...

Great Hub. Enjoy the weekend.

Cathleena Beams (author) from Tennessee on June 13, 2012:

Wow - Thank you to all of you for your responses. I appreciate each and every one and will be reciprocating here shortly.

Beautiful. I meet angels all the time. It's just confirms for me that God is everywhere like he stated. People willing to help or give worthy advice. I enjoyed this hub as it made me think of a recent experience. The experience reminded me God shows up all the time, on time.

Christy Birmingham from British Columbia, Canada on June 12, 2012:

An inspiring hub Cathleena. Yes I have met angels in my life (and the opposite too). I cherish the wonderful people who are in my life and consider angels to be around us. Take care.

I also think that angels are said by gods in human form only to help us in difficult situations...

Sheila Brown from Southern Oklahoma on June 12, 2012:

There are good people in this world. Maybe God sends them our way when we need them. A good question to ask ourselves is...when was the last time you were someone's angel? Great hub, voted up and awesome. Have a wonderful day! :)

Peggy Woods from Houston, Texas on June 12, 2012:

Your Maddie was beautiful! German Shephards were my parents favorite breed of dog. As to 4 legged angels...we have had many in our lives and still do to this very day. One of them is in his favorite position this time of morning...on the desk right in front of the computer. Ha! Dusty...our "top cat" even has his own hub. Really liked this hub! Voted up, beautiful and sharing.

Thomas Silvia from Massachusetts on June 12, 2012:

Hi Cathleena wonderful hub enjoyed reading it ! Sometimes angels walk into our life and touch us deeply and other times they go unnoticed . I feel all the angels that have walked into my life have made me more angel like in some way .

Thank you Witnessing4him - Shepherds are wonderful dogs. The wolf mixes are beautiful. That's amazing how she went against your wishes to save the household in a fire. They make wonderful rescue dogs.

witnessing4HIM from NC USA on June 10, 2012:

Cathleena, this is a tear-jerker as a son says. I too had an angel of a dog, half wolf amd half German Shepherd, Kia was her name, and she went against my words to save the household of a terrible fire. She was black with smoke when her color was actually white.

Thank you so much for the videos they are precious. GOD BLESS!

Cathleena Beams (author) from Tennessee on June 10, 2012:

Thank you Mackyi - You are definitely right; God never ceases to amaze us with His abounding mercy and blessings!
