Many people have heard of Holiness in some way and many wonder what is it. Holiness is one of the many denominations of Christianity. It is a pentecostal religion. Holiness people believe that they should live their lives to the best of their abilities, being holy like god. This comes from 1 Peter 1:16 where it states " Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy." In saying this I would also like to state that Holiness people use the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible. There are many principles and standards to Holiness.
To begin lets talk about the clothing standard. Holiness people dress very modestly. The men do not wear shorts, only pants, and their shirts always have a sleeve (meaning no muscle shirts and tanks etc.) Their hair stays at a length that is normally above the ear. Women in the Holiness movement wear shirts with sleeves as well, coming to at least halfway between the shoulder and elbow. They only wear skirts(decent length). Also they wear very decent neck lines. These beliefs come from Deuteronomy 22;5 "The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God." Women of this movement do not cut their hair because the bible says a woman's hair is her glory. This comes from 1 Corinthians chapter 11. Neither holiness men nor women wear jewelry.They do not wear make-up either
Next we will talk about spiritual beliefs. Holiness people believe in salvation (accepting Jesus Christ as your savior), and as you become sanctified as you become more like Christ. They also believe in being filled with the Holy Ghost. They also believe in the Trinity -: God the Father, the Son Jesus Christ, and the Ghost. They pray and fast as well.
Other denominations often associated with holiness are Apostolic ( similar dress codes, but differences in spiritual beliefs) Charismatic ( similar spiritual belifs, but different lifestyle and dress codes) Pentecostal-Assembly of God( similar spirtual beliefs but different lifestyle and dress codes)

Actually they do go to hospitals. They aren't Amish. My grandmother actually had a double mastectomy for her breast cancer so that isn't at all the truth. I grew up holiness but when I got older chose not to follow the ways, not because I think they're wrong or ignorant but simply because I didn't feel like it's where I was being led. They're good people and have good intentions.

What a bunch of nut jobs. They take the bible completely out of context. They allow themselves and their children to suffer. They don't believe in hospitals. Let cancer eat your body away. Lay there and suffer. Let your kids suffer and die. Let us all suffer unnecessarily and die in the name of the Lord. I am beginning to think ISIS would give the Holiness kids a quicker and less painful death in the name of Allah. The kids suffering would not be continuous and lengthy like thier "holy" parents subject them to. Do you see how messed up these people are?

I am Holiness! Love the Word! My hair is long with asimple style, my dress is long, my sleeves are long. Not form fitting, but that becoming Godly. I acknowledge fully the fact that God cursed gold and silver by certainly not adorning my body with it in any way (not even a little silver barrett). I believe in One God, Jesus is his name. While i know God loves aoutward holiness, i also know that i must also possess inward holiness to make heaven my home. I must put on Charity! God is soo good! I pray God lead you into ALL the truth.......Its such a goood life, i hate that there are so many that dont want it.

ambrea, i will say that the bible speaks about becoming one with your husband, through consimation and spirit. It is very important to get to know what he belives and get converted because once you guys have children they need to have a set relgion seeing that baptist and holiness are two diffrent belief systems (i use to be baptist, im Holiness now). Just be submissive and be the Virtous woman of God your called to be and the support system your husband will need you to be. Congrates on your engagement!!!!

I'm a holiness Christian we r not pentecostal but we r a holiness church from back in the early days of the methodist church where the woman wear there hair in a bun no jewelry no makeup and no splits in there skirts or dresses the woman wear long sleeves with there skirts the men wear long sleeves and pants my holiness church preaches against the TV and Internet

You cannot find trinity nowhere in the bible. What people are looking at is the prefix word tri which means three anything with more than one head is a monster. There is only ONE truly God and Jesus is his name. Who dead and suffer for you and I. There are several scriptures in the bible that explain the oneness of God:deuteronomy 6:4, 2 Samuel 7:22, Isaiah 43:10-11,Isaiah 44:6, James2:19, Acts 4:12, St.John 10:30, St.John 8:24 , St.Matthew 1:21-23 & Revelation 4:1-2. Hope these scriptures will be able to give understanding that there is one God not three. There cannot be three Gods in heaven that would be a mess.

Hi, I live in a holiness community. I'm not holiness. Did not even know about a holiness movement of Christianity existed until I moved here. I'm very confused because I have been to several churches, holiness and others, but I got scared when I witnessed an individual assuming the Holy Ghost and I think he was speaking in tongues? Well because I felt scared because that felt like he was making a mockery of God. And also there's a child that discontinued a friendship with my child because my child is not of the holiness movement. Does holiness scripture embrace turning their back on their brother? Not friending someone different? That's scary... I don't think I want any of that kool aid. My god loves us all and wants us to all love each other. Embrace life and love each other and put Christ first. We are mortals who can never be him. We are not better than our neighbor.

Jesus said In the New Testament John 15:26 " But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, He shall testify of me," this shows Jesus did not consider himself to be the Father or the Holy Ghost. Consider also the times Jesus spake to the Father in the Scripture was He speaking to Himself ? No, He was talking to another Person of the Trinity. I Believe in the Trinity!

Most of my husbands family are Holiness.
I have noticed that even thou they are all Holiness and often visit each others churches, the standards are different in each church.
Example: My brother in laws and sister in laws attend one church where they where short sleeves ( between the shoulder and elbow), and my step-daughter and step-son attend a church that only allows long sleeves.
One thing that really confuses me about Holiness in this area is the fact that they believe in modesty and they don't wear jewelry and the woman do not cut their hair, but they believe it is ok to wear very fancy hair doo's and put "bling" and anything shiny and flashy in their hair. I would think that would fall into the area of vanity. Can anyone answer that one?
