Using the Dimmed Light Seen #4

Over three decades ago I become interested in the Bible, having drank from the heavenly cup once, I have not been tired to drink more

In the previous article I have continued to write on some of those minute lights seen by the ancients, albeit I have been focusing on Joseph, trying to let us see what the minute light he saw when everything looks bleak to him and there was no way again for him. I will continue with Joseph here and complete what his dimmed light was.

Some of Those Minute Lights Seen by The Ancients Continues: Being Alive

His brethren who have been seeking for occasion to harm him got the chance to do what was in their hearts when their father sends Joseph to them on a certain day.

Jacob perhaps have waited endlessly for their return, but he has not seen them, their condition may have been like what happened to the servants of Kish and his asses, they did not return home when they ought to return home, therefore Kish considered those things lost and sent Saul to take a servant and look for them – Asses and the servants. (1 Sam. 9:1-3)

Jacob too has been expectantly waiting for his children but they were no where to be found thence he decides to send his son, Joseph to go and look for them, to see how they were faring and come back with report, to him as he has been doing.

Song of Hope

He left his father as commanded in search of his brethren, but he couldn’t find them where they used to be as they have shifted position. He came across a man from whom he made inquiries as to where his brethren were and he told him what he knows and where he probably think they would be.

He went after them and when they saw him afar off, they said one to another the occasion, the right moment they have been waiting for has presented itself, and they planned well before he got to them what they will do to him, kill him.

And a certain man found him, and, behold, he was wandering in the field: and the man asked him, saying, What seekest thou?

And he said, I seek my brethren: tell me, I pray thee, where they feed their flocks.

And the man said, They are departed hence; for I heard them say, Let us go to Dothan. And Joseph went after his brethren, and found them in Dothan.

And when they saw him afar off, even before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to slay him. (Gen. 37:15-18)

They decided to keep him in the pit until when they would be ready to kill him, but along the line God who sees him faithful in his eyes decides to save him from their hands, by influencing their decisions to kill him, this happened when they saw some Ishmeelites who they sold him to.

And they sat down to eat bread: and they lifted up their eyes and looked, and, behold, a company of Ishmeelites came from Gilead with their camels bearing spicery and balm and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt.

And Judah said unto his brethren, What profit is it if we slay our brother, and conceal his blood?

Come, and let us sell him to the Ishmeelites, and let not our hand be upon him; for he is our brother and our flesh. And his brethren were content.

Then there passed by Midianites merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty pieces of silver: and they brought Joseph into Egypt. (Gen. 37:25-28)

After he was sold, they returned to their parents and told him lies.

Now this is where I am going, after the man Joseph has been sold by his brethren, he entered darkness and the hope of becoming something that has been in his mind turned to zero, he has no hope again.

As if that was not enough when he got to Egypt and was a servant in Potiphar’s house the wife of Potiphar again set her eyes on him that he should know him carnally and when he refused to do this he was sent into prison, by this time all hopes got lost and the only thing he has was that he was thankful that he was alive, I believe it will not cross his mind that he can be saved again let alone become something big in the world. the only dim light available for him was his life.

This dim light he makes use of because he did not attempt suicide when in the prison custody, he keeps himself. (Gen. 39-40)

You may be like this young man and have lost everything and the only thing available to you now is your life, I want you to know that you still have something and you should not do anything “stupid” but keep the hope alive so that the God who makes use of the dim light available for Joseph would also help you out and grant your desire.

I will continue with this exegesis in the next article.
