What do you think of when you hear the word compensation? Chances are you focus on money or reward for effort. Most people are compensated by a paycheck when they go to their job. It is a value system in place that is agreed upon. You do your job and in return your employer or client gives you “x” amount of dollars. In terms of universal laws, there are some similarities, but also some profound differences.
The universal law of compensation states simply “You get back what you give to others”. If you've ever heard the saying “misery loves company” for example, it highlights this law quite well. When people are miserable they tend to complain a lot, and that often brings those around them down.
In fact, they may start to also get pulled in and they too start to complain and feel angry. Before you know it, you now have a couple of angry people, who then “infect” others by spreading and feeding off of this energy that they are passing back and forth.
Fortunately, it isn't just misery that loves company! Joy does too :). Have you ever noticed that when someone smiles at you, your energy shifts instantly. You are inclined to smile back or say hello. That simple acknowledgement can easily catch and become infectious as well.
When working with the law of compensation – we want to give out what we wish to receive. Obviously, we all prefer positive people to grumpy ones, so the best way to ensure that most of the people we attract are positive is to become more positive ourselves.
Go out of your way to smile, say hello, pay people compliments (that are sincere!) and you'll notice that you not only feel better as a person, but that those around you will respond in kind and even those who don't, wont bother you nearly as much.
Be What You Want to See
Gandhi once said we must be the change we wish to see in the world. In other words, don't cry and complain about all that's wrong – fix yourself first and the world and your perceptions of others will change. You'll become more inclined to see the good in yourself and others.
In biblical terms, this law is best summed up by “you reap what you sow”. Imagine if everyone took an empowered stance towards life? How much better would it be?
We live in a society that promotes blaming others over personal responsibility and the result tends to be a lot of people who feel chronically victimized and not empowered to change their own destiny. (Some might argue that there are powers that be in place that like keeping people feeling this way – it's easier to control people who feel that life is a series of random events that happen that you have no control over).
How Law of Compensation Works
Give what you have, be what you want to see and those things will come back to you. Does this mean that if you are broke you should hand out all your money? Of course not. What it does mean is you should be generous in whatever way is within your means.
Don't have extra money laying around? Volunteer your time to a worthy cause. Be charitable in other ways. Get involved and become a part of your community, the political process, or whatever it is that allows you to contribute in meaningful ways.
When we are generous and proactive it allows more abundance and opportunities to flow into our lives. When we are stingy and afraid of losing everything, we tend to attract more debt and hardship because that is where we are directing our energy.
Those who sit around and complain and do nothing become a part of the problems in society instead of the solutions. Innovators are always those people who put themselves out there – who are willing to take chances and be who they are.
You have to consciously and as often as possible be what you want to experience. It's simple, but very complex to understand and implement on a deeply spiritual level.
It is very easy to see what we don't like and to get stuck on that. We all do it. I personally have a strong distaste for those who are unfair to others. I don't like it when people take unfair advantage of people for their own gains. It bothers me immensely. I could spend all my time focused on that and it would probably make me very angry and dis-empowered.
After all, one only needs to watch the news for 30 minutes to see how others take advantage of and mistreat people. I could subsequently complain for hours about how horrible it is, but what does this solve? Instead of being "anti-war", promote peace through education and being a living example. Instead of complaining about people being blind and ignorant to corruption; work to enlighten them in a non-angry, non-confrontational way and they will be more receptive.
I am one person, I can't change the whole of humanity, but I can be an instrument of fairness and peace in my own life and in those around me. I love to write and I use the power of my words to help people think in new ways and approach their own lives from a more empowered place. What positive gifts can you give to others?
I change my attitude and my outlook on humanity by not overindulging the negativity to the point of toxicity. This does NOT mean bury one's head in the sand. I am an activist for many causes, but I approach my activism by being what I want to bring about - instead of "anti". "Anti" = "Angry"; "Pro" = "Positive Reinforcement". Recognize challenges in the world, because it is important to be connected and involved, but then be proactive in the best way you can.
Remember! Even the largest fire begins with a single spark!
Since adopting this empowered mindset several years ago, I have become a much more forgiving, honest and happy person. I feel a sense of peace that permeates by being, even in challenging times. Do I still get mad when I see injustices in the world – of course! I'm human.
Anger is a natural emotion – it's what you do with that anger that determines if it has value or if it is poisonous. Anger, turned into positive actions, benefits the world. Anger, when left to stew and fester becomes a poison that engulfs the person and those around them whom it infects.
When we consciously choose the emotions and subsequent actions we engage in; when we approach life from a proactive perspective; in our darker hours, people return that energy. I have always been able to find support when I needed it, because those who know me know that I am someone they can count on as well.
I work daily to manifest positive energy in my own life and in the lives of those around me. Cynicism is easy – positivity takes effort. Some days it's a real workout ;), but it makes life so much better overall.
Universal Laws and Personal Power
There is so much depth to universal laws that really has to be experienced to be fully integrated and understood. Many people buy into the hype of “conjuring” and mass-produced “law of attraction” books and programs, without the effort to change themselves or their view of the world or how they approach daily life.
Universal laws are not quick fixes, they are deeply philosophical rules for living that require effort and dedication to fully integrate, but once they “click” and you see the results in profound ways, it is truly life-altering.
You can learn more about all twelve universal laws and how they work together. Law of Attraction may be mainstream, but it's oversimplified and not useful to most unless you understand all the corresponding laws. Learn all about it in my hub: The 12 Universal Laws Explained in a Nutshell.

Christin...This is my opportunity to compensate you for writing such a fabulous, interesting article. You are always so well-researched and prepared, making reading your information a real pleasure.
I admit to being a firm believer in Universal Laws & accept that they must be learned, understood and adhered to as the group system they are. It makes sense to realize they work in sync with each other.
Thank you as always for furthering my education of life & our Universe. Peace. Paula

Certain universal laws have been expounded on by the greedy for the greedy, especially the Law of Attraction. Why does a law work for Peter but not for Paul? There’s an old saying “Things come to one who waits, if he works while he waits.” The Law of Compensation tells you why. Voted up++
