Unexpected Loss #6

Over three decades ago I become interested in the Bible, having drank from the heavenly cup once, I have not been tired to drink more

How the Sheep Was Found

These are some of the likely ways in which the sheep was found by the shepherd.

1. Sheep heard his voice makes its own sound back

As the shepherd was whistling and making his common sound to attract the sheep where it is, on hearing the voice of the shepherd it also makes its own sound of “baa/bè-bè/meh-meh” back through which the shepherd knows where it is. As God is calling you, you also have to respond to him, answer his call so that he will know you are ready for him.

2. He Was Attracted To Where the Sound Comes From

When sheep gets lost in my land, the sheep will be shouting “meh-meh” to attract others and would be running helter-skelter until others hear its sound and make sounds back to locate them and or they will go to where the sound comes from to locate it. Such perhaps was what the sheep was doing when it notices that it has gone missing as it also wants to locate others. In the process of doing this, the shepherd heard its voice, makes sound back, walks to where it is and when he sees it was very elated.

What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?

And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing. (Luk 15:4-5)

As this sheep cries to attract savior and others that is how those who are yet to be saved are crying around, seeking for help. Albeit to them they may think they are not crying, they may think all is well with them, but as deep calleth unto deep, their minds are crying and it is because of the cries of their minds that when they hear the gospel they will be attracted to the gospel and would give their lives to Christ Jesus.

3. Shepherd Saw It Where Lying

The sheep after getting missing and having cried and none comes to its rescue becomes tired and was lying somewhere and where it was lying that was where he was located by the shepherd.

4. Found It Being Attacked

It is possible that the shepherd would find the sheep being under attack by the dangerous animal and crying for deliverance. (1 Sam. 17) Adam and Eve were under the attacks of the devil when the Lord visited them in the garden of Eden and maybe God has not visited then terrible things would have been done than what the devil has done. However he came around and put an end to activities of the devil.

The bible says every day is full of evil, thence we need to redeem, the time daily, in other words we need to call on God to come to our rescue daily lest the devil overwhelms us with unpalatable things,

Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Eph 5:16)

Unsaved people are everyday under the attack of the devil, and the common illustration given to them in Yoruba land to which this author hails from is that the unbelievers are like an animal that is put in a cage by its owner, the owner can do what he wants to the animal anytime he pleases. That is how unbelievers are to the devil, such a person is under the purview of the devil every time, every seconds, the devil watches him or her and can do anything to the person at his will.

5. Found It Being Caught by Trap

Maybe in the process of trying to locate others, it may have been caught in the web of a trap set by hunters and seeking for a way out. At this position it will be crying at the top of its voice. The shepherd heard the voice in agony, and quickly moves to the place and he discovers that it was his own sheep which he his out to get that has been caught by a trap.

The enemies set traps for all on earth, and its trap can caught anyone, what is only saving us from the traps of the devil is Jesus blood and power. But those who are not saved do not have the power that would save them, protect, and insulate them against the enemies traps.

This was what happened to the sheep, no protector again and it was exposed to those traps which it walks into innocently and started suffering. This the shepherd knows that he has no protector again and have decided that he needs to go all out to save it from the traps of the enemies and in case it has entered one, rescue it from the trap.

Jesus has been sent to the world for this, he knows that there are people who will naively walk into the traps of the devil and for those people he has come to deliver them even before they walk into the trap and in case they have walked into the trap that they would be saved from the trap.

He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. (1 Joh 3:8)

In the next article I shall continue with some of the things the shepherd did on finding the sheep.
