Unexpected Loss #5

Over three decades ago I become interested in the Bible, having drank from the heavenly cup once, I have not been tired to drink more

Goes and search for it

After involving others, he went and search for the lost sheep. Viewing it from the perspective of when we lose or misplace something in our room, offices and so on we shall recall that the followings do take place when going about the searching:

- Through paths taken: When we misplaces something, and we are looking for it, we shall start from the position we are and begin to think of the steps we have taken before we get to that point. This perhaps was what he did, after getting the remining sheep to a safe place, he starts from that place and started tracing back the paths he has taken the sheep through.

- Followed untaken paths: If he couldn’t get the sheep after searching for it through the routes he has taken before, he begins to take the untaken paths because he has the belief that the sheep would be found.

God too having taken the normal routes to get us back to himself but with no appreciable success decides to take abnormal route to get us to himself, and the route he took was going through his son, sending him to the world to die for mankind.

He Paid Attention to Minutest Details

While searching through the taken and the untaken paths he paid attention to minutest details on the road.

Has his weapons with him

While searching for the sheep he has his weapons with him because the sheep may have fallen into the hands of dangerous animals which he will have to kill to rescue the animal as David did. (1 Sam 17:34-37)

Full of Prayers

As he continues in the search, his mind will be subsumed in talking to the Holy Lord that he must help him to find the lost sheep still alive.

He was hopeful and Positive

While leaving the ninety-nine sheep behind, he was hopeful and positive about the journey he wants to make that it would be fruitful. If he were not hopeful he would not dare leave the ninety-nine sheep behind so that it would not be double loss. God too was positive that humans would be redeemed by the blood of his Son. God was positive that his son would succeed in the mission he embarks upon saving mankind from the hands of the devil. We also have to be optimistic, positive, and hopeful when we are passing through some situations, believing that God would turn the situation around for our good. (Rom. 8:28)

His Health Status

When the incident happened, the shepherd suffered physically and psychologically, however, he encouraged himself in the Lord, asks for the Lord’s strength and he was strengthened.

Knows His Sheep

In the middle east and among those who are shepherd all over the world, they used to have a sign with which they recognize their sheep. This too Jesus was saying with relation to shepherds that they know their sheep.

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: (Joh. 10:27)

His Sheep Know Him, His Voice

As he knows his sheep, his sheep also know him, his sheep will not follow others, because the voice others they do not recognize, the voice a stranger is alien to them irritating them.

To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.

And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.

And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers. (Joh 10:3-5)

Keep Shouting or Whistling

When searching for the sheep through wilderness and other places, he was shouting, whistling, making a sound that the sheep would easily recognize that he is the one. This is what God does through Jesus, he is shouting and calling us to leave sin and come to him in repentance.

In the next article I shall continue with some of the things that the shepherd man did in ensuring that he finds the lost sheep.
