Over three decades ago I become interested in the Bible, having drank from the heavenly cup once, I have not been tired to drink more
Reasons for Rejoicing
Here in I want us to see some of the possible reasons for her rejoicing after finding the missing coin.
“And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost.” (Luk 15:9)
1. Not Labor in vain
One of the disturbing thing which King Solomon called a curse is to work in vain, to work without reaping what one has labored for.
“A man to whom God hath given riches, wealth, and honour, so that he wanteth nothing for his soul of all that he desireth, yet God giveth him not power to eat thereof, but a stranger eateth it: this is vanity, and it is an evil disease.” (Ecc. 6:2)
She has to rejoice for finding the missing coin because she knows that she has not labored in vain.
God through prophet Isaiah has promised all believers that we shall not labor in vain neither labor for someone else to eat, because we are his heirs, we are the apple of his eyes.
“They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of the LORD, and their offspring with them.” (Isa. 65:23)
2. Ascertaining not Stolen
She may have been skeptical about her relationship with the people, she may have been having it in mind stopping some of her neighbors from having access to her room, but this has to change immediately she finds the missing coin and she knows that those people are free, they are no thief and all their words of defense which she perhaps would have mocked and ignored were no longer ignored, as she now knows they are speaking the truth.
3. Ascertaining she wasn’t lying
There may also be some of her neighbors who may have been saying that she perhaps did not come home with the missing coin, or that she never have more than nine silver coins, but now that she finds the coin, she has “mouth”, she has confidence, the confidence which has been lost for her has been restored, and she can also display before them all alongside with the nine other silver that she indeed has the coin and she was neither bluffing nor lying.
4. To stop people from further search
In case people have joined her in the search for the missing coin within and without, calling them together to show them the coin would stop them from further search of the missing coin.
5. Rest of Mind
Her mind which has been restless before, thinking of myriad of things, would not be at rest and she could now think of other things, to do about herself, house, religion etc. When our minds are restless we shall not be able to think straight and thing right, we shall not be able to think of what is next chapter in our lives. A heart that is restless cannot even pray and pray well, therefore someone who will pray effective prayer must have peace of mind, his or her heart must be at rest.
Jesus himself when he sees that he and his disciples have labored long, and they have not been able to have adequate rest, he has counsel that they move to a place to have rest there.
“And he said unto them, come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.” (Mar. 6:31)
Effect of rest cannot be over-emphasized in humans lives. Many of the diseases that befall man are related to restlessness, therefore the medical personnel would in the strongest possible terms counsel that people should rest after taking their medicines because it would assist in the systems healing and repairs. To live a good, qualitative, and quantitative life, we need to be resting, for God himself on the seventh day rested from the works of his hands.
“Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
“And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.” (Gen. 2:1-2)
6. To Show Her Appreciation
She was rejoicing and calling others together to show her appreciation, a grateful heart for their support to her during the stress period caused by the stressor, the missing coin.
Different countries have different images on the coins of their countries, some have images of man while others have different images of other things. However it is good that we know that we all are images of God and we are in the heart of God therefore he cannot leave nor abandon us even after our fall in the garden of Eden, for he remembers that he created us in his similitude, his image.
“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” (Gen. 1:26-27)
Because we have been created in his image, therefore, he cannot but search us out, he does not give up on us, thence he sends Jesus, who is the light of the world to shine light into the secret places of the world to search us out.
“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
“As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” (Joh 9:5)
This light is shone on our paths, he seeks us out from the bottomless pit that sin has placed us, from darkest places of the world.
As God through Jesus has not given up on us, we therefore should not give up on ourselves. Are we passing through any terrible situations? Are we in the valleys of life? Are there mountains before us that look insurmountable? Do not give up, God will help you if you can give your life to him and rely wholly on him.
The Parable of the Lost Coin (Luke 15:8-10) - as sung by Jack Marti
The church needs to keep searching for the lost souls in the world because it is for that, that we have been redeemed by the blood of the lamb. We have to give it all it takes to get the lost soul back, we have to do our best to get back those who have backslid as this woman gets back her lost coin, and when doing this we have been admonished by apostle Paul to be careful.
“Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.” (Gal. 6:1)
