Unexpected Loss #11

Over three decades ago I become interested in the Bible, having drank from the heavenly cup once, I have not been tired to drink more

This topic is culled out from the gospel according to saint Luke chapter fifteen. This chapter contains three stories or parables. The first parable has been explained in my first ten articles. In this eleventh article I want to start with the second parable shared by Jesus Christ with the scribes, Pharisees and his followers, where Jesus has told his listeners the fundamental thing in the heart of God for all mankind, telling all yea those of us on earth that God desires to do everything at his power to recover the Lost souls, in which “I am (we are) chief of them”, according to what Apostle Pau says.

This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. (1 Tim. 1:15)

This parable spans through three verses of the chapter, which is verses, 8, 9 and 10.

Parable of a Woman with Money

The second common work in the country then and perhaps the commonest work for women during his (Jesus) days is business. Women then do engage in businesses and this is common even presently globally we see that women have flair for businesses, they find it easy to engage in businesses, negotiating with customers to bring gains home. However, Jesus does not state the source of the income of the money of the woman, maybe she was given the money by her spouse, children, or anyone at that.

Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it? (Luke 15:8)

But I am viewing it from the perspective of business because it was common work for women then and presently, and as Jesus himself says, if I use the present thing to explain to you and you do not understand how will you understand if I tell you what is obtainable in the life beyond here.

If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things? (Joh 3:12)

Having said this, I want to say that I am using this as a template to explain to us this verse, using this to view the position and mind of God for mankind as being presented by Jesus Christ to the people listening to him.

Therefore, we need know that Jesus used woman in explaining to them, the mind of God because he knows that there are woman among them, many of them are married, with their wives into businesses and those who are yet to be married have mothers, siblings who are into businesses. Apart from that all of them have been raised by women one way or another and they know the disposition of women to money either given or the one worked for.

King Solomon says of the virtues of virtuous women that they are into various businesses in the book of Proverbs 31.

Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.

The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.

She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.

She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.

She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.

She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.

She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.

She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.

She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.

She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.(Pro 31:10-18 & 24)

Therefore, he was using the medium the parable to show and tell them how business people feel, and if they can feel like that, he wants them to know that God also have similar feelings, especially for humans who are his image if he loses anyone.

i shall continue with the article in the next edition.
