Unexpected Loss #10

Over three decades ago I become interested in the Bible, having drank from the heavenly cup once, I have not been tired to drink more

What This Story Implies (Means)

a) What Which Need No Repentance Means: This word, which need no repentance means that God’s mind is not shaking on the people as his mind was not shaken on Job despite the arrays of lies that devil presented against him and the trials he passed through. It is like a father who understands his child very well and knows what the child can do or cannot do, wherever he is, his mind would be at peace because he knows what the child can do.

b) The Phrase “Which Need No Repentance” Also Means: The phrase also connotes that the people are established, it means they cannot be uprooted by anything, they have settled their minds on Yahweh and nothing could move them. (Col. 1)

Apostle Paul in Romans also says nothing can separate us from the love of God.

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

“Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Rom. 8:38-39)

What the Verse Means

We shall also discover the followings to be the meaning of this verse

I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance. (Luk 15:7)

1. At that specific point in time of their repentance they were happy: At a time or another in the life of the people who are now just before God, the people who do not need repentance, God and his angels have felicitated over them. They were once lost and found by God through Jesus Christ. Now that they were standing in faith they also should join the heavenly beings for felicitate for discovering and recovering those who were once lost.

2. The initial sadness turns to joy: The initial sadness had over the people who do not know God has been turned to joy as the initial sadness of the shepherd whose sheep went missing was turned to joy when he finds it.

3. Their hope on them were not dashed: This means that the hope of the angels, God and his Son has not been dashed on the people as they have come to God through Jesus.

Why Are They Happy?

There was joy in the presence of God and the heavenly beings because of the followings:

1. Won’t Labor on Them Again

The angelic beings, God and his Son know that since the sinner has come to Jesus, they shall not labor on him again, but would be tutoring him as parents tutor children. There is difference between how parents attend to pregnancy compared to when the child has been given birth to. The joy of seeing the child always of instructing him knowing that the pregnancy was not terminated nor that the woman dies during the childbirth would be there. It is also true of the person who gives his life to Christ, they know that since he is a new creature, he can be addressed and tutored like humans.

The shepherd labored on the missing sheep before he could be brought home, in the meanwhile he did not labor on the ninety-nine that he has kept at a safe place. That is how it is for a person who comes to Christ, God becomes happy for the person knowing that he has not allowed the death and the shed blood of Christ on Calvary to be in vain on him.

2. Another candle has been lightened

God, His Son and the angelic beings also know that another candle has been lighten. A redemptive soul is a lighted candle that will show light to people who are in darkness, therefore, Jesus says our light should be bright in the world so that people will know the type of God we serve.

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. (Mat_5:16)

Shepherd of my soul

3. Because he has seen the light

There is happiness and joy in heaven because the person has seen the light and has come to the light. There are people who see light but decide to continue in darkness, this was the case of the people who lived during Noah days before the flood came and swept them off. (Mat. 24:37-38) However in the case of this people, such never happened, they see the light, are attracted to the light like Moses who turned himself to a side to see what is happening in the bush that has refused to be burnt by the fire. (Exo. 3:3)

4. He could show others the light

Like the disciples who know Jesus, because they know their master and have interacted with their master, Jesus they could show others their master, telling them to repent and come to him for he is the expected messiah. Those who do not know Christ cannot present Christ to people. Just like a person who does not know a subject cannot teach others, if he teaches others it would be theoretical and would not be teaching with authority nor as someone who knows the nitty-gritties of the subject. It is the same with these people, the heavens rejoice because they know that now that he has known Jesus, he can show him to others without fear or favor, he will show him through his actions, walking, dressing, talking among other things. Have you known Jesus? If you are yet to know Jesus, this is the time for you to come to him, this is the time to repent and be saved.

To wrap this up,

we all discover from this simple exegesis that this is a wonderful story which shows the mind of God for all, that he keeps on searching for the lost souls, that he has us, believers and unbelievers in mind and would do anything to get us back to himself, however, what we need to do is ensure that when he is calling we come out of our hiding places to go to him for assuming the sheep remains in its hiding place, the shepherd may not find it or if the sheep decides that he is not ready to follow the shepherd back home and keeps fleeing, there would be a point when the shepherd would leave the sheep alone. You have been fleeing for too long, this is the time to come to him and when you come he will save you for he has said, All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.. (Joh. 6:37)
