Personally, I strongly believe that there is more to it. In this page, I'm going to list down the Top 20 Most Haunted Places In The World. To give fellow readers who seek the paranormal a point to start off their search.


To those who are adventurous,

I've marked down the locations of all the haunted places (except for one). You are strongly encouraged to visit these places whether you believe in the supernatural or not.

Located in the United States, this simple home became haunted when a man, his wife and 6 other children was viciously murdered by an unknown killer with an axe.

Guests who visited the home have reported seeing blurry images of children running around and a man with an axe who they believed is the murderer coming back for the victims even in the afterlife.

The White House is haunted by past presidents, workers, soldiers, pretty much anyone who were linked to the White House.

There are numerous reports of people seeing soldiers from the 60s or 70s marching around the White House and disappearing after their march. That’s not all, there is actually a long list of people witnessing spiritual beings in the White House.

One of the most famous was by Prime Minister Winston Churchill who saw Abraham Lincoln by the fireplace.

In Germany, the Babenhausen Barracks is well known for spotting World War 2 soldiers marching near the building.

Lights were also turned on and off by themselves and voices were heard coming from the basement. Some soldiers that visited the barrack even received phone calls from a woman who was speaking backwards.

Today, the Barrack is turned into a museum. Some people visit the museum to learn more about history, others to experience paranormal activities.

Built in Cape Town, South Africa, the Castle of Good Hope is famous for its dark history.

A former governor sentenced 7 soldiers to death, the governor was later found dead with a look of terror on his face. It was believed that the 7 soldiers placed a curse on him and went back to the castle for vengeance.

Another even more famous tale is the Lady in Grey. A mysterious lady was witnessed running around the castle, hands covering her face and was constantly crying. However ever since they excavated a woman’s body in the castle, the haunting stopped and the grey lady was never spotted again.

Located in Pennsylvania, USA. The Eastern State Penitentiary prison was infamous for turning inmates insane during 1829. Prisoners were forced to eat, sleep, workout, pretty much do everything alone. In short, the prison messed prisoners up mentally with isolation.

Today, people have witnessed shadowy figures and ghostly faces in cell block 4, hear crackling noises and footsteps in cell block 12 and loud banging on the cell door.

The Banff Springs Hotel has three ghost stories. Firstly, the bride who fell down the stairs, broke her neck and died on the spot when her wedding gown was caught on fire. Today, guest have reported seeing the bride in the hallway. The same exact woman with her gown still on fire.

Another story is of a spirit named Sam who was a former employee of the hotel. The somewhat creepy part is that Sam, actually offered help to the guest by turning on lights and opening locked doors, however if the guest tips or tries to talk to Sam, he vanishes into thin air.

Last but not least, the story on how an entire family was murdered in Room 873. The room was bricked up but the entire family have been seen by guests and staffs, scrolling the hallways and disappearing when people try to get close.

Located in Japan, the Aokigahara Forest is where thousands of people have journeyed into and committed suicide, giving the forest the nickname, ‘The Suicide Forest’.

Reports confirmed that 104 people have committed suicide in the year 2004 alone, there were actually so many dead bodies that the police had to carry out an annual sweep to find and bury the decaying bodies.

Locals believe that those thousands of spirits still haunt this forest until this very day and they welcome anyone who wishes to join them with open arms.

This majestic castle was made in the 11th century in France with a dark history.

Locals believed that a double homicide occurred in the castle, resulting in one restless spirit that still haunts the castle until this very day.

The locals nicknamed her the Green Lady. Some people have even seen the face of the green lady, and they said it was… something they can never forget.

“There were neither eyes nor nose.” One witness claimed, “It was just three large gaping holes on her face…”

Built in 1917, Semarang, Indonesia. Lawang Sewu was converted into a prison and an execution site by the japanese soldier during World War 2. Many prisoners of war died here due to extreme abuse and executions.

Today, locals have witnessed spirits without heads walking around the hall who they believed were the spirit of the executed victims.

The most famous spirit is the Dutch Lady, who was constantly seen by guests and was even caught on camera.

Locals also believe that the basement in B building is haunted by Pontianak, which is a vampiric ghost of Indonesia and Malaysia.

Known as one of the most haunted house in Sweden. The first paranormal activity was reported in 1927, when a man witnessed his own laundry being thrown around the room by an unseen force.

Another report was in 1945, a journalist said he was constantly pushed and thrown out of his chair when he was in the house.

But the creepiest story is of a lady who was woken up by 3 older woman who were starting directly at her, the lady panicked and turned on the light, but instead of disappearing like most cases, the 3 older women just became… blurry.


As disturbing and haunted as this place may be the place is currently used as a…. restaurant and guest house. And they actually give you a certificate if you survive the night.

Located in Singapore, the Japanese Solders executed thousands of civilians on this very beach during World War 2.

Throughout the decades, people had found headless remains around the beach and deep dig pit which was used to bury the executed civilians.

Today, locals believe that the restless spirits still haunt this beach. Locals also witnessed headless shadowy figures walking around the beach, hear screams and weeping late at night.

Located in Northern Italy, the island was converted into quarantine colony during the Bubonic Plague outbreak.

People infected were send to this island to die. After that, their bodies would be burned to cease the spreading of the plague.

During the 1800 however, the place was converted into a mental asylum but some people believe that was just a cover up. Some say that the island was actually used to carry out human experiments on mentally challenged people in secrecy.

Today, locals believe that the island is curse. Observing shadowy figures, weird voices and even possessions will experienced by anyone who dares to set foot on the island.

Located in Kentucky, USA. The Waverly Hills Sanatorium served as a tuberculosis hospital in the mid-20th century.

More than 63,000 patients died here due to mistreatments and experimental procedures on patients. Locals believe that some of the patients still haunt the sanatorium until this very day.

Today, The Waverly Hill Sanatorium is open to the public and there are reports of sudden cold spots, whispering voices and worst of all, screams coming from nowhere in the sanatorium.

Furthermore, paranormal investigators even caught a thermal images of a 3 feet tall little boy named Tim.

The Edinburgh Castle has a very dark history as it was a site where people were brutally tortured and where many bloody battles occurred.

Visitors and staffs have been touched and pulled by an unseen force in the castle. There are even reports of people seeing clear ghostly figure like an old man with an apron, a headless drummer and a piper.

Others report sudden drop of temperature, mist appearing from nowhere, strange noises and the sudden feeling of despair.

Built in 1856, Fort George is one of the most haunted places in Canada. Paranormal activities happened so frequently that it have become a norm to the staffs.

Paranormal activities include seeing a soldiers in uniform walking around in the prison area, a man with a red cloak, and the most famous old lady who tends to suddenly appear in mirrors.

Guest who visits the fort are expected to feel as though a little girl is holding his/her hand, be pushed by an unknown force, hear loud banging on doors, feel a sudden gust of wind and see mysterious mists that appears from nowhere, witness moving furniture and suddenly feel nauseated.

Built around the 1300 as a stronghold, the Akershus Fortress was converted into a prison on the 18th century

Due to the horrible treatment, many prisons actually died during imprisonment. The horror doesn’t end there, as during World War 2, it was used as an execution site and many believe the people who died in the fortress, stayed in the fortress.

The most famous spirit is the demonic dog that guards the fortress, you can say it’s the gatekeeper. And anyone who is approached by this demonic dog will die in the more gory and horrible way in around 3 months’ time.

Child sacrifices, demon worshipping and summoning of evil spirits are well known tales that locals believe have happened in the Ancient Ram Inn.

However, this inn is also currently used as a bed and breakfast. Guests do tend to flee the hotel in the middle of the night after seeing figures in their rooms, hearing strange voices and the general feeling of the presence of pure… evil.

John, the current owner is also not safe from the haunting as he was constantly dragged out of bed by a pair of invincible hands. To make things worse, John even found 2 child skeletons and a broken dagger in the inn. Confirming the rumour of child sacrifices and demon worshiping.

The Monte Cristo Homestead is known as one of the most haunted places in New South Wales, Australia.

Many mysterious and unfortunate death occurred in the homestead, including a little boy who died falling off the stairs, a maid who fallen off the balcony and a stable boy who was unfortunately burned alive.

The homestead was later given to a group of caretakers who were brutally murdered in the homestead. Some locals believe that the homestead is curse and anyone who dares to live in the homestead will share the same fate as the former owners.

Located in Niagara Falls, under a railway. The Screaming Tunnel is where the spirit of a little girl who was burned alive lived.

Legend has it that a farm nearby was caught on fire, and a girl burst out of the farm covered in flames. The girl ran to this very tunnel to try to look for help but couldn’t find any, collapsed and was pretty much burned alive.

Locals believe that if you light a match in the tunnel, that very same girl appears in front of you, screams and haunts you for the rest of your life.

Year 1950, a man named Julian moved to this island to settle down. One day, he was approached by a ghostly figure which resembles a little girl.

The girl told him everything about herself, how she drowned, how she’s trapped in the island and how alone she was... So Julian started buying dolls for the little girl.

One day, Julian told his nephew that the little girl was no longer satisfied with just playing dolls and wanted him to join her on the other side. On that very same day, Julian was found dead, drowned on the very same canal the little girl drowned in, on the very same spot of the canal.

Today, people who visits the island says that the dolls tend to move by themselves, how the dolls’ eyes are always fixed on the visitors and how they hear whispers coming from the dolls.

Are we alone in this world?… I believe not. And the amount of evidences, plus witnesses throughout the centuries have drew one conclusion, and that is there is an afterlife.
