I am pastor Nathaniel Stalling Jr. of Burning Bush Temple of Christ, and I have been teaching the word of God for over 30 years.
This Is No Time to Panic
Every generation has its own burden to bear. Being a Christian, I believe it is especially true when it comes to the church. The bible is quite clear about safeguarding the truth, as the apostle Paul instructed Timothy to do:
“Keep and follow the pattern of sound teaching (doctrine) which you have heard from me, in the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. Guard [with greatest care] and keep unchanged, the treasure [that precious truth] which has been entrusted to you [that is, the good news about salvation through personal faith in Christ Jesus], through [the help of] the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.” 2 Timothy 1:13, 14 AMP
The apostle Paul pastored the church at Ephesus for three years, but when it was time for him to move on, he chose to install one of his most trusted disciples, Timothy, to pastor the church. Timothy was well equipped to safeguard the gospel against corruption.
Today, in America, there is a fierce struggle going on between truth and falsehood. No, I’m not talking about politics. We will save that discussion for another time. I am talking about the church. Yes, that’s right. It is becoming more and more difficult to safeguard the truth. Many of our places of worship have given in to conspiracy theories, false doctrines and, some have even become entertainment centers, feeding our flesh rather than our soul. What a shame.
In the book of Matthew, the bible tells us that Jesus' disciples came to him privately while he was seated on the Mount of Olives and asked him about the sign of his second coming, and of the end of the age. Jesus answered in this way:
“Be careful that no one misleads you [deceiving you and leading you into error]. For many will come in My name [misusing it, and appropriating the strength of the name which belongs to Me], saying, ‘I am the Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed); and they will mislead many.” Matthew 24:4, 5 AMP
Then the apostle Paul wrote this to Timothy:
“But the [Holy] Spirit explicitly and unmistakably declares that in later times some will turn away from the faith, paying attention instead to deceitful and seductive spirits and doctrines of demons, [mislead] by the hypocrisy of liars whose consciences are seared as with a branding iron [leaving them incapable of ethical functioning],” 1 Timothy 4:1, 2 AMP
Is this not the scene that is playing out today?
There are over 1,200 Christian denominations in the United States alone.
We must have God-appointed/approved leaders in our local assemblies. Ones who are dedicated to safeguarding the truth.
In that same chapter of Matthew it says this:
“Many false prophets will appear and mislead many. Because lawlessness is increased, the love of most people will grow cold. But the one who endures and bears up [under suffering] to the end will be saved.”
Matthew 24:11-13 AMP
So yes, every generation has its own burden to bear. Ours happens to be holding on to sound doctrine and, safeguarding the truth for the next generation. It won't be easy, but the bible tells us that there would be some difficult days ahead. But be comforted, the Bereans in the book of Acts left us some good advice.
"Now these people were more noble and open-minded than those in Thessalonica, so they received the message [of salvation through faith in the Christ] with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so."
Acts 17:11 AMP
I would like to leave you with the words the apostle Paul wrote in Thessalonians:
“Now in regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to meet Him, we ask you, brothers and sisters, not to be quickly unsettled or alarmed either by a [so-called prophetic revelation of a] spirit or a message or a letter [alleged to be] from us to the effect that the day of the Lord has [already] come. Let no one in any way deceive or entrap you, for that day will not come unless the apostasy comes first [that is, the great rebellion, the abandonment of the faith by professed Christians], and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction [the Antichrist, the one who is destined to be destroyed],” 2 Thessalonians 2:1-3 AMP
Know and guard the truth.

KC McGee from Where I belong on May 26, 2021:
Great article you have here, It is said in prophecy that there will be a falling away from the church. But as you said, "This is no time to panic". Fellowship is most important in church for it does allow for a better worship in groups. I believe too that bible study on are own is further important for all of us. Thank you Nate, for your great insight in ths article and for sharing it with us all.
Many blessings you and yours
