The First Step into a deeper more fulfilling prayer life. From the Black and White to Full color of the life in the Spirit.

Qualities of an Intercessor.

1) Intercessors are a new creation in Christ Jesus. They have given up their lives to live and pray for others. 2Cor.5:17

2) Intercessors are priests, with holiness a priority. Having an understanding of the Levitical Priesthood, but above all, an understanding of Jesus’ priesthood. See Heb.7:11-28; Rom.12: 1-2; Isa.42:1-9; Duet.10:8, Lev.

3) Intercessors are grace revealers. Living it, walking it, talking it. Not operating out of judgmental attitudes, like the accuser. Hos.6:6, Mic.6:8

4) Intercessors have a heart that is teachable, willing to accept correction, willing to be obedient to and counseled by Holy Spirit. Jn.14:23

5) Intercessors have a heart of mercy. Because they are the message of a merciful God. The heart of God transforms their hearts. Bearing his image or inscription, they are mercy bearers. Jer.3:12, Mt.5:7

6) Intercessors keep the enemy out of their lives by maintaining honesty and humility before God and others. Ps.51:10

7) Intercessors are called to break people out of prison. Their prayers originate from the throne of mercy. Their intimacy with God as Father will assist them to pray positive and blessing prayers. Jn.14:9 –14, Luke 4:18

8) Intercessors are called to pray for, not to prey upon. They stand in the gap becoming

a defense for the one being prayed for. They discern the need and turn it into prayer.

Ez.22:30 Example: Num.25:10-11

True discernment abounds in love flowing from your heart.

False discernment judges, saying, “They deserve what they get.”

“What you do with what you see determines the amount of Jesus in you. Do not judge anything you are not willing to die for.” (Frances Frangipane)

9) Intercessors show forth the power of reconciliation; because our God is a reconciling God. They understand without prejudice the uniqueness of every person and situation.

Mt.7:1-2; 2Cor.5:19-21

10) Intercessors are team players, living under authority and accountability. They understand the schemes of the evil one and keep him out of their lives, through resistance and wisdom. They must possess a working knowledge of how the enemy works against others, the church, and us. Having discernment and understanding the armor of God, the rest of God and the protection of God will greatly help them in using warfare strategies. They need to understand as much as possible the heart of Christ for others, and themselves. Must be Spirit walkers. See Rom.8 & 12, 1Cor.2:6-16, Gal.5, Eph. All

11) Intercessors live to fulfill the attitudes described in the Beatitudes. Mt.5:3-12

They will seek to have these Kingdom ideals filling their lives. See Rom.12:3-21

See also Is.11:2-5 (Who Jesus is.)

12) True intercessors understand the cross. They understand Jesus’ cross and their own.

There are things in our lives that can only be remedied by the cross. The cross will reveal the intercessors heart. There must be surrendering of themselves to die for others and situations before God in their intercession. Those who want the rank of intercessor must bear the responsibility and obligation to the Spirit. It is a privilege to pray for and with others.

Rom.8: 9-13

1) What are the main qualities of an intercessor?

2) Who qualifies us to become an intercessor?

3) How does one arrive here and can anyone be an intercessor?

4) What does the cross mean to the intercessor?

5) Where and how does humility come to affect the intercessors life?

Are you an Intercessor?

Qualities of an Intercessor:

Perhaps after reading through the article you would question yourself to see if you still qualify?

Simply remember it is Christ in you that matters, and Holy Spirit is the one who qualifies us through the work he does in us.

To Jeremiah, the Lord said, “I will put my words in your mouth…”

In a manufacturing setting there is a quality control department where they are always trying to improve on the product so as to stay in the forefront with sales and position in the marketplace.

Holy Spirit is head of Gods quality control and he is changing us, “from glory to glory…”

All are called to intercede and this is an outline. As you press into God, you will find that these qualities will grow in you. The more you think about and place others ahead of yourself, is a key component for the transformation of your heart and spirit. You will become amazed as you see the love of God pour out from you and into the lives of others.

Thankfully our Heavenly Father is in the process of perfecting us in Jesus, through Holy Spirit within us mingled together with our spirit. There is no room for striving with our flesh, except to say to God, as Isaiah had said, “here I am send me.” Our faith is not in our works, but to work the work of faith. Once each of us finds that place IN JESUS, not in ourselves or in copying others, but in the discovery of the new creation we were designed for, then the journey into the heart of God becomes as simple as little children following after their teacher. Remember and be encouraged that you are as unique as your own DNA and that uniqueness is a gift and your hope and trust is in the finished work of Christ. Col.1:27 “Christ in you the hope of glory…” which works powerfully in you.

What a privilege we have in serving this way. Let humility be your goal so your prayer/intercession will find quick answers before so great a God and Father as we have.

1) A new creation? Then why are we still thinking with the old mind.

See: Rom.12:2 No more conformity to the world.

2) Understanding, How? Through revelation. The Levites set aside for ministry. Jesus priesthood; for you to know Holy Spirit and to study and know the scriptures, becoming a living testimony of the Glory of God in you.

3) Grace revealers. You have received the greatest gift; GRACE. Jesus life given through God’s enormous love.

4) Teachable. An act of your WILL-ing-ness. Continuously.

5) Heart of Mercy. His image bearer.

6) Honest/Humility. Pure heart. How? Where does humility come from? How do we get it into us?

7) Intimacy with God. How? Blessing others comes from where? Attitude?

8) In the Gap. Discern. What is the Gap? A void only you can bridge by way of your love for others and for God. A privilege.

Does a bridge just happen? 1Jn.1 & 2 Love, Love, Love. Gal.5

Fruit of THE SPIRIT, LOVE. Learn the way of the Spirit.

9) Reconciliation.Powerful. Without prejudice. Nathan before David delivers only the message. Do not add to it. God’s heart is for repentance.

10)Team Player. Under authority/accountability. To who? Why?

11)Attitude/Kingdom ideals. You are a priest in the sanctuary of God. Ps.15:1-3, Matt. 12:34. Lk.6:45.

12)Understanding the Cross. Why? Fundamental.

What should the cross mean to each of us?

All of the above is impossible without Agape love which does not happen instantly. We grow into it in the Spirit as our spirit is continuously charged from heaven. If we only love with our sense nature then we are still acting in the flesh and the results will be fleshly not of the Spirit. We are not called to pray from our senses, but to act with wisdom in our inner man.

If you are still acting from your old nature you are in violation of

actually talking to (and from) the dead.

Saint Lawrence (author) from Canada on December 05, 2014:

Jeremiah was called, "the weeping prophet"... as he wept over Israel, which was really the heart of God coming through him.

Today; since we are now being ministered to by Holy Spirit who is able to live in our heart, therefore affecting our thought life and attitudes, (which still requires obedience) he is able to touch us with the heart of God for those around us and the world at large.

Wanting to have a heart after God, as those in the Bible is not wrong; but to try to emulate them, I believe, is not allowing God to show us who we can be as individuals in Christ and true sons of the Father. We don't have to pretend or imagine, we just have to be!

Hi, Robin. I have been so hungry for the Lord's presence. I have asked to see His glory. To hear Him speak to me. I have been in tears longing for God so bad. It is lately all I have been desiring. More of HIM. To literally see Him. Why is this happening? My soul groans. I even got troubled reading a post from somebody saying they basically want the God of Hosea as opposed to Moses. Like they were cherry picking His attributes. What is He doing in me? He is my greatest passion. Being in His presence. I weep sometimes in prayer. Sometimes like a wounded animal.

Saint Lawrence (author) from Canada on March 08, 2014:

hello Abigail... To answer your question. Let's clarify the word "prophet" according to today's standards or practices and according to the Word. The type of "Old Testament prophet" as used by God for delivering his message is no longer needed. Today we have, according to Paul,in 1 Cor 12, with regard to gifts, the office of prophet, for the building up of the body of Christ. There are some great books available to help further your understanding.

Now, with regard to 'Intercession'... you can be a "prophetic intercessor", which means God informs you of things hidden, or secret, or coming, etc that the intercessor is to pray about. Many times these secrets revealed by God through Holy Spirit is for the intercessor alone, and sometimes they need to be shared with a certain group of other intercessors so corporately the need can be prayed for... this is very common. This revelatory gift is relative to your encounters with God and your relationship... since God through Holy Spirit speaks to us a friend to friend. This intercessory relationship is a very much needed one for the church today. This doesn't mean anyone is more special, gifted, or looking to be elevated in status... it simply means the servant heart is available to hear, listen, and do as directed, in humility, for the purpose for which God desires to exercise through the individual or group.

Be blessed, and thank you for the question. I hope I gave you some insight.

hi Siphoh. We are all called to intercede, at what level, intensity, commitment, or just the amount of time is going to be between you and Holy Spirit. Dreaming about it can mean that in your heart you have a desire to be more committed to a plan from God. God is always interested in whatever you desire to give to him. Intercession can have various applications. I would suggest that you read through my teachings on intercession and I also suggest looking at the books of different authors on many of my hubs. I think that reading my hub on having a prayer journal, would be a good starting point. I would stop worrying that you are going to miss God; he will not make you feel badly but the enemy will try to overburden you with fear, doubt, anxiousness, and pressure. Holy Spirit is not a taskmaster, he is our council and guide and giver of peace from Heaven. Having a true love for Father, Son and Holy Spirit and a love for others will be paramount in your actions. The work of intercession is not meant to be looked at as a noticeable to others ministry, but is one of hiddenness and done behind closed doors, between you and God. Press into God and learn from those who are doing this ministry. Be blessed and do not worry yourself any longer. L

Confused, Can dream praying mean you are being called to be an intercessor? I always have such dreams i would dream being at church having a service and we would pray, sometimes i just dream praying at church. Now im starting to worry im starting to think God is telling me something maybe.By the way started having such dreams since 2006.

I believe God is calling me to be an intercessor. One day after my other assignment was up, I received a flood of calls from people attached to me that had problems only God could solve. And whenever that happens with one person my heart is so heavy. My mother is an intercessor and has always said that I am too. So i needed this article to help me recognize that it is my time to walk in my calling and use these tools to do it right . Thank you

Hi, Aanuoluwa. Thank you for the visit and the question. The greatest improvement anyone can do is to be committed. Start by having some good solid teaching from reputable teachers. I have listed a number of books on many of my hubs on prayer. The various articles I have published here are mainly on intercession. There are over 16, plus a few just on different aspects of prayer. Study Biblical prayers and continue to improve your relationship with, God the Father, Jesus and Holy Spirit. You can never know enough, but relationship is the key to success. Be blessed and keep up your pursuit of God. L

Hello St. L!

Thank you for your article. I was really blessed by it. We learn everyday and I am glad to learn from you. I need more of humility in my calling as an intercessor. I pray that I will intercede with humility and grace. Every intercessor should be careful to return all the glory to God when victory is won!

Thank you!

Hello Saintatlarge,

As we seek Jesus we become more and more like him. We are always learning as God takes us from glory to glory.

As a prayer intercessor it is important to be obedient to God and pray prayers that are effective and line up to his word. We are to keep all the visions covered in prayer also and be willing to fast as God leads. Standing in the gap in intercessory prayer is a form of warfare, as we are warring in the spiritual realm with spiritual components for the people's salvation, healing and deliverance. Along with our own well-being. We will experience buffeting as we receive knowledge and dreams, and visions from God, but we buffet the buffer in Jesus name. And even though they may encompass us like bees God has burned them up like chaff.

It is vital to stay close to God for the deliverance of the people. So you can stand and not be defeated.

Great page it really stirred me up!

God bless you!

Saint Lawrence (author) from Canada on July 25, 2010:

Aria... Blessings and greetings. Welcome to the joys of intercession. Hearing from God is one thing, but knowing what you are to share and when is something quite different. Many times God gives something for others that means it may be between you and him. This we all have to observe in the Spirit and discern whether the person we are praying with is ready to hear, or are we the vessel to be used to pray that they will hear from God for themselves. Another thing is; can we be trusted with things that are in God's heart, that may be only for us to pray about. Much of intercession is done in that secret place, hidden from sight of others and little or no recognition is to be sought. God himself will be the one to reveal this before others. As you read through this article one of the key components to intercession is humility. Hope to hear from you again, thank you for the comment and your commitment to the Lord. St. L.

Aria Beullah on July 25, 2010:

I am just learning my gift of intercession. The other day I prayed for a friend and the Holy Spirit revealed that this person is to go into ministry full time. I know we all are to be minister's of Christ. When I told this person this they did not reply. I actually apologized and told them the decision was between them and GOD. I think I have to learn to take things to persons and leave it.

Hi UG, and thank you. There is an order that i put them in, that i had on each article originally. But they were written individually in the beginning and i have them in a syllabus format with a guide which is added to each one. Save your questions and i would be happy to help you if you do not find all you need as you read through. May the Lord bless your insight and may you receive a spirit of wisdom and understanding, to agree with Paul's prayer. Blessings and very happy to share what i have been given.

Intriguing to say the least. I look forward with anticipation to the following articles. I have many questions right now but will hang on to them until I have read through your series. Thank you for making this available to us, the general public. I believe that, the Church at large, we are sorely lacking in teaching in this area and many get themselves into trouble because of it, myself included.

Blessing from a somber heart
