The Nightmare Within

In the darkest place of the mind,

are where monsters roam, the most evil kind.

each night I close my eyes reluctantly,

then the monsters come again I see.

In many forms they come to me,

laughing at my misery.

Some from trauma as a child,

those ones are blurred and somewhat mild.

Some from my firefighting days,

they are harsher with fears and tempers ablaze.

Then the ones from my military time,

they are of the most wicked kind.

the mind is a place of torment, darkness, despair

for many people live it alone, no ones aware.

smiles on our faces, laughter and fun,

but deep within our minds a battles begun.

We fight it alone, don't speak of it at all,

don't bother anyone, until we fall.

the end of our ropes, years have gone by,

that is when we reach out..or we try.

people confused, they don't understand,

the battle thats been raging, the one i see firsthand.

PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) is something that has been brought to light just recently. Wars are a horrible thing, but with them come advancement in technology, medicine and also the realization of such things as PTSD. But it comes at a cost, the cost of human lives, heartache and heartbreak.

PTSD can come from any form of stress, whether it be from military service, first responders, firefighters or other forms of trauma that one has had to endure through childhood, or in ones latter years.

Even though we now know something about PTSD, we do not know enough.

There are many people who suffer with this on a daily basis-and they suffer alone-in silence.

Even if one has it under control, it does not take much to set it off. Sometimes it can be a stressor such as a divorce, a car accident, a movie or even fireworks, then the whole cycle begins again.

Science has told us that there is no cure, we can medicate, but we can not heal this yet.

However, it is not all gloom and doom, yes there is hope.

When we surrender our lives to Jesus, when we fully and wholeheartedly give our lives to Him, it is He who begins the healing process. Jesus will go to the innermost areas of our lives and He will set us free and heal us. But, there is something that we also need to do. We need to allow Him access to all those areas, we need to let Him do whatever it is that He needs to do.

Sometimes we surrender and healing takes place and sometimes there are one or more things that we hold onto. This can come out of guilt. Maybe we did something that we can not bare to let go of, maybe we tell ourselves that we deserve to feel pain and therefore we do not surrender that one thing.

But then what happens? Then we cary it with us, and it then affects our health and/or our relationships.

Jesus did not die for nothing, He gave up His life so that we can live...not merely exist.

He died for each and everyone of us and everyone of our sins. So let it go. Don't let His death be for nothing.

Allow Him to cleanse you and heal you. Forgive yourself so that He can forgive you. Then the nightmare within can become a beautiful dream.

God Bless you. Jesus reigns!

1 Peter 2:24

King James Version (KJV)

24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed
