Pollution is a major problem in the world. It is like cancer slowly destroying the planet. It brings health hazards to all people around the globe. If we take a look at our land, rivers, seas, oceans, and the air we breathe, we can say that the world is not a safe place to live in because cancer or contamination reached the highest level or stage. Climate change or global warming is a major effect of pollution. Many suffered respiratory infections due to air pollution. Many suffered skin and internal infections because of contaminated water. Rapid developments all around the planet fueled by greed are a major cause of pollution. Increased knowledge and developments bring increased pollution. Nature lovers and environmentalists joined the worldwide campaign against this problem. Awareness spread everywhere but the result can't be seen anywhere. Everyone from least to great contributed to the intense contamination of the planet's natural resources. Abuse of nature can be seen anywhere. Why there is intense contamination of natural resources? Because man is morally and spiritually corrupt. Some people cannot withstand to looked or watched videos and photos of severe pollution. How can we withstand if God gives us the privilege to take a look at the intense spiritual pollution? How can we withstand if he will show us how polluted we are in his sight? Natural pollution is dangerous; spiritual pollution is most dangerous.
What Is Meant By Spiritual Pollution?
He went on: what comes out of a man is what makes him unclean. For from within, out of man's hearts, comes evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance, and folly. All these evils come from inside and make a man unclean (Mark 7:20-23).
Spiritual pollution means uncleanness or defilement of man's spiritual nature. It is a pollution of the spiritual, not physical aspects of a man. It is the contamination inside man's heart. It is a corruption of morality and the spirituality of man.
The teaching of Jesus about Spiritual Pollution
The Pharisees and the teachers of the law saw the ceremonial or physical uncleanness or defilement of the disciple of Jesus based on their tradition by eating with unwashed hands. Jesus rebuked them for their hypocrisy for letting go of the commands of God and holding on to the traditions of men. Jesus told the crowd and his disciples that whatever that goes inside the man cannot pollute him but what comes out inside the man can defile him. The sins or evils that comes out from the heart of men can contaminate them.
What Is The Cause Or Origin Of Spiritual Pollution?
The Spiritual Garbage or Waste, The Sin or Evil
All these evils come from inside and make a man unclean (Mark 7:23).
Garbage or waste causes land, water, and air pollution. Spiritually, the sins or evils causes spiritual pollution. It is the origin of spiritual pollution. It is the spiritual garbage or waste inside man's heart. It contaminate man before God. It makes a man undesirable to looked spiritually.
What is Sin?
Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness (1 John 3:4).
All wrongdoing is sin (1 John 5:17).
Everything that does not come from faith is sin (Romans 14:23).
Sin is man's rebellion, disobedience, and unfaithfulness to God. It is breaking or transgressions of the law of the Lord. It is the lawlessness of man before God. It is all wickedness and wrongdoings of man in God's sight. It is the evils that live inside man's heart. It is the doubt insides one's mind.
The Origin Of The Spiritual Garbage Or Waste
He who does what is sinful is of the devil because the devil has been sinning from the beginning (1 John 3:8).
You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies (John 8:44).
The origin of the spiritual garbage or waste is Satan or the Devil. He is the first sinner. He sins from the beginning. He is the father of lies and all wickedness. He pollutes the world and spreads contamination from generation to generation. He succeeds in polluting Adam and Eve but failed to pollute Jesus at the wilderness temptation. He desired that all believers will be derailed from the path of righteousness. He used all ways and means to make every Christian fall into sin and will be polluted like him and will be with him in eternal doom. If the spiritual garbage or waste lives in man's heart, he is polluted before God even though how clean and neat is his physical nature. Satan is not concerned only with the physical aspect of man, the body, or the outer shell of man, but he is more concerned with the spiritual aspects of man, the spirit, and the soul.
The Effects Of Spiritual Pollution
Natural pollution brings danger to the natural nature of the planet and the people living on it. Spiritual pollution brings hazards to the spiritual nature of man.
1. Spiritual Separation
But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you so that he will not hear (Isaiah 59:2).
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).
The world was separated from God because of spiritual pollution. Spiritual separation is one of the effects of spiritual pollution. All fall short or are separated from God's glory because all have sinned. All became polluted due to spiritual garbage or waste. Isaiah told his people about the result of their sins and iniquities. It separates them from their God. God's face hid from them because of the spiritual garbage or waste they have in their lives. God did not desire to look at them because they were contaminated spiritually. God is holy and pure and nothing impure, defiled, or polluted can have a connection with him. A contaminated heart and spirit cannot have a fellowship with God. Adam and Eve disobeyed God and they became polluted spiritually. Their sin created separation from God. They were banished from the garden of Eden and God's presence. The parable of the lost son is the best illustration of the spiritual separation of a sinner from God (Luke 15:11-32).
2. Prayer Without Answer
If a had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened; But God surely listened and heard my voice in prayer (Psalm 66:18-19)
But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you so that he will not hear (Isaiah 59:2).
The psalmist knows if he had cherished the spiritual garbage or waste in his heart there is no answer to his prayer. If a man is contaminated spiritually because of sin there is no answer to his prayer. Isaiah told his people why the Lord hid his face from them so that he will not hear them because of their sins. He is not only showing them that the spiritual garbage or waste separates them from their God but it will also bring no answer to their prayers. God abandoned Saul because of his sins. He did not answer him in dreams or prophet due to his disobedience. The spiritual garbage or waste polluted him before God and brought no answer to his prayer.
3. Life Without Spiritual Prosperity
He who conceals his sins does not prosper (Proverbs 28:15).
Proverbs warned anyone who conceals the spiritual garbage or waste. It will produce a life without prosperity. A polluted life before God is a life away from spiritual prosperity.
4. Spiritual Death
As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient (Ephesians 2:1-2).
Paul before telling the Ephesian believers that God's love and mercy made them alive with Christ, and told them that they were dead in their transgressions and sins when they live according to the ways of the world and rules of Satan. This death means spiritual death. The spirit of man is dead because of the spiritual garbage that causes spiritual contamination. God's breath or the spirit of man is man's connection to God. Sin brings death to the spirit of man and disconnected the communion or fellowship with God. Adam and Eve became spiritually dead after they were polluted by the spiritual garbage and forfeited their right to fellowship with their creator.
5. Eternal Death
For the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23).
Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire, the lake of fire is the second death
Eternal death or the second death is the most dangerous result of spiritual pollution. It is the wages of the spiritual waste. The lake of fire was reserved to Satan and his demons, and to all enemies of God who rejected the salvation he offered, who liked to live spiritually polluted by sins. It is also the reward to all hypocrites like the Pharisees, who only had the outward form of religion but inside full of contamination (Matthew 23:27-28).
How To Solve Spiritual Pollution
1. Let The Spiritual Garbage Collector Take Away The Garbage
Every government all over the world mastered the proper waste disposal and created a waste disposal management council to combat pollution. They hired men as garbage or waste collectors to ensure the cleanliness of every community in their area. If the garbage remains at home or any place, pollution is inevitable. Spiritually, we must let the garbage collector take away the waste or garbage in our lives to have a clean spiritual life. No spiritual garbage; no spiritual pollution.
Who is the Spiritual Garbage Collector?
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, Look, The Lamb of God, who take away the sins of the world! (John 1:29).
Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God that takes away the garbage, the sins of the world. He collected all the sins of the entire planet and nailed it on the cross that the wages of sin will be destroyed through his death and resurrection. He takes away our sins to set us free from the chained of spiritual pollution. He washed away the spiritual garbage through his blood to bring spiritual and eternal life, purity, and unity with God.
How can Jesus Christ take away the sins and purify man before God?
Through Genuine Repentance
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).
He who conceals his sin does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy (Proverbs 28:13).
If we admit, acknowledge, renounce and turn around from sin, we will find forgiveness and mercy from God. He will also purify us from spiritual pollution. Through genuine repentance the lamb of God, Jesus Christ can take away the sins and purify anyone before God through the cleansing of his blood that poured out in the Calvary. Psalm 51 is the record of David's genuine repentance when he committed the sins of adultery and murder. When he realized that he is polluted before God through the prophet Nathan, he humbled himself and asked God for mercy and cleansing. He confesses and acknowledges his sins and gained forgiveness from God.
2. Guard your Spiritual Life and Heart not to become a Dump Site or a Garbage Container
But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way (Daniel 1:8).
Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness. For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace (Romans 6:12-14).
Daniel guard himself from Spiritual Pollution
Daniel takes action from defilement brought by the royal food and wine and asked a favor to the chief official not to take this food and drink. He asked him only for vegetables and water as their food and drink together with his friends, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. They emerged healthier compared to all trainees in the Babylonian empire who take the royal food and wine. Daniel guard himself not to be polluted before God. He did not want that his life is a dumpsite or a garbage container. He liked not the spiritual garbage that will produce spiritual pollution.
Christians must be a Guardian of his Spiritual Life to Avoid Spiritual Pollution
Paul instructs the believers in Rome that they must guard their lives against sin. They must protect their life or their mortal bodies not to be enslaved again by sin that they will obey its evil desires. The Christian life must be an instrument of righteousness not of wickedness. God must be the master of all Christians, not the spiritual garbage. Christians must be on guard not to be contaminated again by sin. He must be vigilant against Satan's scheme and works. He must be alert against the thrower of the spiritual garbage. His heart must be not a dumpsite or a garbage container to avoid spiritual pollution.
Christian Motto Against Spiritual Garbage

Thank you for your encouraging comment servant of God Jack Jenn. Conviction really happened when the word of God and the Holy Spirit works together to accomplish God’s purpose. I just regain my account and read your comment. Thanks for taking time reading my hub. God bless you and your household.
Jack Jenn from Nelson Bay NSW Australia. on November 26, 2019:
You hit every nail on the head here and I enjoyed every word, even if it was convicting most of the time.
And that's a good thing because if something doesn't convict you (meaning myself) to do better, then it went right over the top of your head and meant nothing to you.
I am so glad I stopped to read and hopefully I will benefit from all you've said and I hope others will too.
