Ghosts and the Paranormal: The Night My Spirit Guide Appeared to Me

My experience with my personal guides have led me to wonderful adventures on my path and life's journey. My gift to you! Namaste

Do You Believe in Ghosts or the Paranormal?

I am sure that this question has been asked thousands of times throughout the history of the world, and is still asked today. Perhaps even more than ever.

There are basically 3 types of people when it comes to the subject of ghosts and the paranormal:

  1. Believers
  2. Non-believers
  3. Can't explain-ers

It really doesn't matter whether or not we believe in ghosts, paranormal activities, spirits, etc. What does matter, is that we respect each other for our own beliefs and always listen with open minds and hearts.

Respect and be Respected

I can honestly say that I have always believed in ghosts, paranormal activity, and spirits. The whole idea that the possibility of those who try to communicate to us from the after-world is amazing to me.

I can go on to further state that I am not one that constantly talks about my personal experiences with the afterlife or tries to push my beliefs or concepts onto others. I have great respect for the paranormal and even greater respect for the experiences that I have been through.

I do know this, that when I meditate, contemplate and stay in-tune with myself and my spirit guide, I receive guidance and answers. When I don't take the time to listen, I miss out on wonderful opportunities.

Time Of Sharing

I have only shared this experience with a few people in my lifetime. Two of those whom I had shared were actually around me at the time and knew exactly what was happening. The others were amazed at my experience and had a great understanding of why I had it.

I am offering up this experience at this time because it is time to share.
I am not trying to make believers out of anyone. It is your journey to find your own spirit guide if you so desire, and to experience the paranormal when your mind is in the right place.

Disclaimer: I do swear with all my heart that this occurred and I have witnesses to the fact.

The Beginning

In 1997, while living on the island of Kauai, I began to have, what you might say, premonitions of things that were going to happen in my life. At first I ignored the feelings and the thoughts I would get. Probably because I wasn't able to explain them and frankly didn't want to take the time to do so.

One beautiful day I was driving through town to do a little shopping and thinking about what I was going to fix for dinner. The sun was shining and there was not a lot of traffic during that time of the day.

The next thing I remember, I saw the most beautiful scenery before me, but not of Kauai. Before me were adobe flats against the Arizona mountains. The red clay and purple hues of the mountains were vivid. The flats surrounded my entire existence at that moment.

Off to the right were adobe-style houses with flat-pitched roofs, opened windows with no glass and a fire pit by each building. On my left were children, both female and male of all ages and sizes. They were all dressed in white, and every child adorned some fashion of color. For example, a boy would wear a red sash around his waist, another wore a yellow bandanna around his neck, a young girl had a bright blue shawl, the other a green scarf, etc. I also noticed lots of trees on both sides (which I thought to myself was strange for this part of Arizona).

The next thing I know, I was at the store (5 miles later). The scene still very vivid in my mind, yet had no recollection of how I ended up at the store, or more importantly, arrived there without getting in an accident.

This was the beginning.

A Message from a Grandmother

1997 was the year I signed onto the internet for the first time and chat rooms were very popular then. I had joined a dog fanciers chatroom where we would discuss the types of dogs we had and how to take care of them, etc. It was there I met a young woman about my age with whom I had more in common with than just dogs. We were both of Native American descent and would talk on different subjects regarding our races and also our families. We would soon become phone pals as well. However, because cell phones were just becoming the new kid on the block, I did not own one at that time and it was very expensive to call state to state, especially from Hawaii to Wyoming. Therefore, our "phone chats" were limited to one or two times per month and for no more than ten to fifteen minutes.

One evening, I was chatting on the computer with another friend from Colorado. She had just lost her grandmother who had raised her from a small child and was having a hard day. We had been chatting for approximately fifteen minutes and as I attempted to comfort her, I became frozen in my chair, except my forearms and hands. I began to type the following (Vicki could barley keep up with me and to this day, I still don't know how I was able to type so fast):

Vicki: I just don't know how I'm going deal with this.
At that moment I saw a person standing off to my right. Dark billowy figure, yet I could make out what she was wearing and her facial/hair features.

Myself: Vicki, hold on please.........(pause) I have to ask you something.
Vicki: What is that?
Myself: Did your Grandmother have gray hair and wear it up?
Vicki: Yes
Myself: Did she ever wear a flower print dress with a big white collar?
Vicki: She was buried in a floral dress. Why? what's going on?
Myself: Wait please, just answer the questions.
Vicki: Okay.
Myself: I Think your grandmother might be standing here next to me. I'm not scared but it's really strange seeing this. I also see a whole bunch of children all around her, as if she's telling them a story.
Vicki: Oh my God Lisa, she was a kindergarten teacher up until the day she died!
Myself: Okay. She has the biggest smile on her face right now, grinning from ear to ear.
Vicki: Her smile was huge!
Myself: Okay, hold on. Now I see a bird flying around her. I think it's an eagle or maybe a hawk.
Vicki: Lisa, her favorite bird was the hawk. She had tons of books about hawks.
Myself: Vicki, I get the feeling that she wants you to be okay with her passing. She is very happy and is in a good place. She loves you and she wants you to always look for the hawk, and she'll be there watching over you.
Vicki: I saw a hawk this morning when I went for my walk. It stayed with me the entire time.

The figure was fading and I was able to get up and move around. I told Vicki that I had to get up and take a break. I gave her my love and we shut down the chat.
I wasn't sure what just happened, but I do know that it was amazing to me. I did find that I was listening intently to the spirit and what it was trying to convey to me. I might have not been the perfect vessel for Vicki's grandmother, but it was well worth the moment and an experience I will never forget.

Calling Wyoming

After what had transpired with Vicki, I took a few moments to collect myself and contemplate on what just occurred. My first thought was, I needed to call my friend Cheyenne in Wyoming and tell her about this experience and get her opinion about it.

We were three hours earlier than Wyoming and it was 11:30 p.m. Hawaii time; however, Cheyenne always stayed up till 3 a.m. or 4 a.m., so I knew she would be awake. I went into the living room and nestled myself into my recliner and made the call:

Myself: Hey Chey, it's me.
Chey: Hey girl, what's up?
Myself: Just had an amazing experience and I wanted to run it by you. How are you?
Chey: The girls and I are good. I've been promising to take them to the park all week, so tomorrow the three of us are packing a lunch and going.
Myself: Oh very cool. They'll like that. Wish I could join you.
Chey: So what's this "amazing experience" you want to share.

I proceeded to tell her about the conversation with Vicki and and asked her what I she thought.
Chey: Sounds like the grandmother used you to communicate with her granddaughter, because she was too emotional to hear her.
Myself: Hmmm makes sense, I guess. All I know it was a strange....

At that point, with the phone nestled under my chin and next to my neck, my entire body became paralyzed.

Myself: Chey, it's happening again. I can't move!
Chey: At all?
Myself: Nothing, except my mouth!
Chey: Do you think the grandmother is coming back?
Myself: nooo! Why would she?

At that moment, a figure of a man appeared in front and off to the right of me.
Myself: Oh My God!
Chey: What?
Myself: There's a man in front of me! He looks Native American.
Chey: Can you tell what tribe?
Myself: No.
Chey: What does he look like?
Myself:He has a high forehead, high cheek bones, and long black hair down to his waist. He's wearing white pants, but no shirt. His nose and chin are very strong. He is wearing a quiver with arrows in it, but he's not carrying a bow. He's just standing there smiling at me.
Chey: You can see all that?
Myself: Yes. His appearance is very different from the grandmother's. He is more defined.
He's very handsome, and now he's pacing back and forth right in front of me!
Chey: Lisa, you just described my brother who died in 1987!
Myself: Really? I don't get the impression that's who it is.
Chey: Ask him!
Myself: No! Awwweee.. he's gone.

What seemed like a few moments went by and at some point I was able to move freely and told Chey.
I continued on with the conversation not realizing what was about to transpire.

Myself: So what time are you going to take the girls to the park?
Chey: What?
Myself: What time are you.....
Chey: Lisa, are you ok?
Myself: I'm fine, why?
Chey: Do you realize what time it is?
Myself: I'm not sure, maybe around 12 or 1 a.m.
Chey: No! Lisa, It's 5 o'clock in the morning!
Myself: What? *looking at the clock and seeing 5:02 a.m.
Chey: Lisa, do you have any idea what you've been doing for the past 5 hours?
Myself: What do you mean, doing?
Chey: Lisa you have been chanting like crazy! I couldn't understand half of what you were saying, so I put granddad on the phone to see if he could make it out.
Myself: What? Chanting? What the hell was I saying?
Chey: He said you were talking about the "Tree of Life" and those who need us, children, happiness and some other stuff.
Myself: Why didn't you wake me up?
Chey: I tried a few times, but you couldn't hear me! So, I just let you finish what you needed to do. I just didn't realize it would take the next 5 hours! It was really freaky, but you were very sure and solid in your chanting.
Myself: Chey, I need to get off the phone. This is going to be one hell of a phone bill!
Chey: Yes it is. okay girl get some rest. Love ya
Myself: Love ya too.

I went to bed and awoke two hours later feeling very refreshed. As if I had slept all night!

A sketch I made of my spirit guide the following morning after his first appearance to me

A sketch I made of my spirit guide the following morning after his first appearance to me

Four Corners, Colorado

Promptly at 7:30 a.m., I called my best friend on the island who has been through many spiritual experiences, to tell her of my night.
Brenda: Hello?
Myself: You are NOT going to believe the night I had!
Brenda: You need to go to Four Corners!
Myself: What?
Brenda: I've been on the phone with Zona since 5:30 a.m. who called me to tell me of a friend of mine who needs to go to Four Corners for the answers.
Myself: How does she know it's Four Corners? I thought you and I came to the conclusion that it was Arizona.
Brenda: Well Arizona is part of Four Corners! She said it's Four Corners and that you will have a "visitor" soon.
I told her about the man who visited me , and how Chey seemed to think it was her deceased brother.
Brenda: No, Zona said it was your spirit guide.

Just then, without warning, he appeared right next to me, smiling and rocking back and forth.
Myself: Brenda, he's here again. He's smiling, but I feel like he's losing patience with me.
Brenda: He's not. He wants to make sure you hear him.

As fast as he appeared, he was gone. I moved away from the wall in the hallway and my bare feet had left prominent impressions in the carpet as if I had stepped into cement.

As if orchestrated, Brenda and I spoke in unison, "We need to go to Borders."
We would always find the information we were looking for at Border's Books, whether it be a book, someone we were to meet, just about anything. We called it our "Answer Domain."

The Tree of Life

I picked Brenda up at 9:00 a.m. and headed off to Borders Books. Once there, I headed straight for the Native American book section to see if anything stood out at me.
I was staring at a wall of shelves 30 feet long and 7 feet high filled with Native American literature and I thought to myself, "Where the hell was I going to find the answer in here, and were would I start?".....At the beginning.....
I pulled out every single book, one at a time, checking the title, and the contents page to see if anything stood out. Nothing did. 3 hours later, I stood there with tears in my eyes and asking the greater spirit or my spirit guide to help me find what I was looking for.
As I got ready to go find Brenda and see how she was doing, I bumped into a book that was sticking almost all the way out (knowing without a doubt that this book was not there before and certainly not sticking out) and knocked it to to the floor. It was a thin book with a red, teal, and white cover. It wasn't hard to miss. But there it was. I picked it up off the floor, turned it over and read the title, "The Tree of Life." A rush of calm came over me and I knew I had found what I came for. Just then, Brenda came around the corner with another book in her hand, entitled, Colorado and the Four Corners.
Brenda: I found this book on Four Corners and thought you might want to take a look at it.

I opened to the section of the Four Corners.

The very first picture was that of flat adobe mountains, with trees and small adobe homes at the basin. The only thing missing were.... the children.

Namaste Momma! You know that I will help you, but you are one of the most spiritual women I know. Do what we talked about and you will find it! Love you more! ♥

Liz Rayen (author) from California on July 03, 2013:

Thank you Mary (tillsontitan)! I am truly grateful for these rare opportunities that I receive. I firmly believe we all have that gift and ability (some stronger than others) however with constant meditation and paying a little more attention to our instincts and intuition, those experiences can become stronger and more frequent. So wonderful to see you again!♥

Mary Craig from New York on July 03, 2013:

This was awesome! How fortunate you are to have that special touch. I read about it and watch it on TV and in movies. Not everyone is graced with the ability to do what you have done. God bless.

Voted up, awesome, and interesting.

Sheila Brown from Southern Oklahoma on July 03, 2013:

What a wonderful article! I know sometimes it's hard to share such personal stories, but I am so glad you did! I think this is a wonderful gift you have accepted and will use to comfort others. I believe only special people are given such a gift and you, my friend, are definitely one of those special people! Embrace it and enjoy it and please continue to share with us! Have a beautiful day! :)

Such a fascinating hub, I had to read it twice. Thank you for sharing your experience. I hope you will write more.

Audrey Hunt from Pahrump NV on July 03, 2013:

Oh, baby girl, this is beyond amazingly beautiful. I want to concentrate on finding my animal totem and my spirit guide. With your help I know I will. There is so much on so many levels given here. Outstanding presentation and stunning pictures by you. Your love for others weaves in and out of the words you write. How blessed I am - for you! Love always and forever - Mom - vocalcoach

Tall Tree from Arizona on May 14, 2012:

I can contribute too. If you like?

Liz Rayen (author) from California on May 14, 2012:

You are amazing CC. Looking forward to talking with you! :)

Cynthia Calhoun from Western NC on May 14, 2012:

I still love this hub! I had to come back and say so. :) I'll talk to you later today about totems. I can't wait! :)

Liz Rayen (author) from California on May 14, 2012:

You are so welcome Suelynn. That is the best way to know your Spirit Animal. Learn about it and surround yourself with it's presence. I'm glad you took that step. :)

Suelynn from Manitoba, Canada on May 14, 2012:

Rusticliving, I just looked up a little info on Mountain Lion as a totem, and I must admit, the cap pretty much fits! :) You've sparked an interest for me and I thank you very much. Bravo!

Tall Tree from Arizona on May 13, 2012:

Spiritn Mountain is on Public BLM land. Near Christmass Tree Pass.

Liz Rayen (author) from California on May 13, 2012:

That is beautiful and very special. :)

Liz Rayen (author) from California on May 13, 2012:

I have heard of that mountain Tall Tree, yet I have never been there. Is it only accessible by permission?

Liz Rayen (author) from California on May 13, 2012:

That is wonderful Suelynn. You would know if you had your totem pulled. However, You can also have spirit animals that stay with you and journey your life with you as well. When and if you ever have your Totem pulled, Mountain Lion may or may not be a part of it. I love that you have Mountain Lion as a quide. :)

Tall Tree from Arizona on May 13, 2012:

Naahdo'itsoh (Mountain Lion) is my Spirit Aminal. to see Spirit Mountain in my videos.

Tall Tree from Arizona on May 13, 2012:

Spirit Mountain NV. Located 65mi South of Las Vegas, next to the Lake Mead Recreation Area. It is Sacred.

Suelynn from Manitoba, Canada on May 13, 2012:

Rusticliving, no (I'm not quite sure what that means), but ever since my son was about 11 or 12 years old, Mountain Lion has been very present and very strong for me. It is, by now, a rather ageing Mountain more cubs, but much experience. :)

Liz Rayen (author) from California on May 12, 2012:

Awesome Suelynn! Did you have your Totem pulled?

Suelynn from Manitoba, Canada on May 12, 2012:

Tall Tree, I believe my animal totem to be Mountan Lion. :)

Liz Rayen (author) from California on May 12, 2012:

Absolutely I agree Tall Tree. I am not sure which Spirit Mountain you are referring to, however, I have lived near two in my lifetime and have received many answers from out creatures of flight. Thank you for your visit! Namaste

Tall Tree from Arizona on May 12, 2012:

On Spirit Mountain, Hawk, Owl, and other birds speak. So does Mountain Lion.

Suelynn from Manitoba, Canada on May 11, 2012:

What a beautiful message, Rusticliving! Thank you so much for the love in your heart and the sight you have. Goodwill to you and Namaste, my friend. :)

Liz Rayen (author) from California on May 11, 2012:

Thank you Suelynn! It's interesting that you left this message for me today. I was working on another hub about our animal guides and Hawk was very strong in my mind today. Hawk has circled your life today. Keep this in mind as you look upon your potential buyers and your life: Hawk has a very keen eye. He is possibly teaching you to grab an opportunity which is coming your way. Because Hawk flies close to Grandfather Sun, his vantage point is incredible. This tells you to look down and circle your life and examine it from a higher perspective. You have a bold heart and with your ability to discern hazards that may keep you from the freedom of flight, you will have wonderful things transpire soon for you! Namaste

Suelynn from Manitoba, Canada on May 11, 2012:

Fabulous experience, Lisa! I got goosebumps all over when I read it and I am on a job, house sitting and waiting for potential buyers. Lovely area and guess what birds are wheeling around in the sky through the windows? Hawks! Phew! Voted up, interesting and awesome! :)

Tall Tree from Arizona on May 07, 2012:

One Spirit Mountain there is much paranormal.

Liz Rayen (author) from California on March 23, 2012:

That's amazing Audrey! Have you ever written down your experiences (not to publish but for personal reflection)?

I find that when I write the experiences down, sometimes I see or feel the answers come to me which will help me understand why it happened. Even the scary ones can be understood more and then less scary as you write them out. :)

Audrey Howitt from California on March 23, 2012:

What a fascinating hub! When my sister and I were very young, I recall many odd experiences--and perhaps my sister experienced more than I---certainly some were good experiences, but some were scary---I am so glad that people are talking more openly about their experiences now--it makes it easier to believe that what we experience is real

Liz Rayen (author) from California on March 22, 2012:

Usually we hear or see when we are most vulnerable, like a little child.I'm happy you had such a wonderful experience with her Debbie! :)

Deborah Brooks Langford from Brownsville,TX on March 22, 2012:

this is awesome.. My mom died this past July.. a couple of weeks later I was so tired that night and missing my mom so much as I was almost a sleep she called my name three times. she kept waking me up. it was amazing. I had never really believe this before but I do now.

Great hub.

Liz Rayen (author) from California on March 22, 2012:

Thanks, I was just looking at your site and couldn't find it. I'm glad you responded. and for the record, I never believe in coincidences :)

Vincent Moore on March 22, 2012:

No I never knew who she was, however the writer suggested I write a story and see if a connection appears in my story. I gave it lots of thought and began to write A Lost Kentucky Love using two fictional names. I name her Laura and her love Jeremiah. After reading the story my fellow writer was astonished, she did some research of those two common names in that area of Kentucky back in the civil war years and sure enough a Laura and Jeremiah lived.

To me that was just a coincidence, yet it led me to write the two last poems about her death and him visiting her at her grave and then him drowning on the seas as his ship went down and her name was the last words on his lips and he went to meet her in eternity. I wrote these last year and they've been in my thoughts ever since.

Interesting huh? The graveyard of lost souls is no longer at the hubs. I pulled a number of my works and you can find them at my site Tks for the interest.

Liz Rayen (author) from California on March 22, 2012:

That is amazing Vincent. Do you have any idea who she may have been? You mentioned that some suggested that the Lady in White had a connection to you. Have you ever thought about finding out who she was? She could very well be one of your spirit guides. I'm going to take a read on your Graveyard of Lost Souls. For whatever reason, I feel the need to. :)

Vincent Moore on March 22, 2012:

This is a fascinating recount of your experience with the paranormal/spirits. I am a true believe and never was up until my own experience back in 2006 on a back road in Kentucky. I didn't know I was parked beside a cemetary until I walked to the back of my trailer to meet the Lady In White and saw her basically glide back there and disappear in front of my eyes.

I wrote my poem "Graveyard of Lost Souls" about that experience and then I was led to write. "My Kentucky Love" then "Somewhere in Time" and finally "Message In A Bottle" I felt compelled or directed to write and the words came easy as if out of anothers soul. Many have suggested or felt that The Lady In White had some connection to me and was reaching out.

I definitely believe in other dimensions and the thin vale that separates our worlds. I loved your story and am so glad you had that experience. Voted Up, awesome, beautiful, interesting and useful.

Liz Rayen (author) from California on March 22, 2012:

Thank you so much misty! Your belief can only get stronger and will bring you answers when you least expect it. Namaste ?

Cindy Lawson from Guernsey (Channel Islands) on March 22, 2012:

This is a stunning hub Lisa, and a subject I am completely fascinated by (as well as being a firm believer). I would love to have your gift, and I would equally love to be a recipient of the kind of information you gave to your friends at the time these events happened to you. I am voting up, sharing this etc. Fantastic stuff :)

Liz Rayen (author) from California on March 22, 2012:

Thank you so much CC. I'm happy you enjoyed the reading. You can have experiences of your own just by observing, listening and meditating. If you don't already have a totem, pull one or have someone pull it for you. This is a great place to learn of your spirit guide(s) and have wonderful experiences of your own. Namaste ?

Cynthia Calhoun from Western NC on March 22, 2012:

Wow. I got goosebumps reading this. What a wonderful experience. I'm a tiny amount Navajo- something like 1/16th. I've always been fascinated by these experiences, though I've never had one myself. I've always wanted to meet up with a shaman and learn more. In any case, this is such a cool hub. I'm so glad you shared these awesome experiences. Aho.

Liz Rayen (author) from California on March 20, 2012:

How amazing, I was just thinking about you and saw your comment. Thank you LORD. Thank you so much for such a wonderful comment. You too are a blessing to everyone. I have never felt so much compassion from a group of people than I have with the HP family. You have been such an inspiration to me in my first three months here. You shall see! Blessings my dear friend!

Joseph De Cross from New York on March 20, 2012:

Wow! Lisa, as I said a week ago, you are a blessing to us. I can read your words and feel your spirit. Compasionate, caring...and a friend with no conditions at all. You are actually a keeper... and my Guardian Angel is agreeing with me.

Liz Rayen (author) from California on March 20, 2012:

AE, you need to be patient with yourself. God said, "Be still and know that I am." You need to take moments of stillness and even if you don't hear or feel anything, it doesn't mean she isn't there, it means you are not prepared to receive. You don't need to understand the why, but to accept it. Don't try to hear, just hear. Peace and comfort is very close for you. :)

Julianna from SomeWhere Out There on March 20, 2012:

RL: Your words about my mom brought tears to my eyes. I listen and sometimes I think I hear her. I don't know why it has been so much harder for me then for my sisters. I am the oldest but maybe it was because of the time we shared. Sometimes I think hear voice channels through me, I know that sounds nuts but it isn't my voice. There was a time I felt her spirit inside of me, I can't explain it but it was unusual. Maybe one day she will come to you and then I can have Peace. There is a reason why God puts all of us together. :)

Liz Rayen (author) from California on March 20, 2012:

Oh my dear Bobbi,

You do have a special gift. What a tragic loss for you at such a young age. Your sister is still with you and will always be with you.

You are right in not concerning yourself if others do not believe. They just don't have an understanding of such a gift and that's ok. Your focus has been and will always be on your sister as she is your spirit guide. Listen every day to what she has to tell you. Sometimes it will be a little bit, other days she may be with you all day. Thank you so much for sharing your precious thoughts. Lisa

Liz Rayen (author) from California on March 20, 2012:

AEvans, you amaze me. Your spirit is so full of love. I've heard you mention your ordeal or shall we say experience with death. We are for the better because of that. It is God who gave us the gift of you by sending you back to us. Not too many people can attest to what you have experienced. I am not aware of your mom's passing and what you may be going through, but know this...She is watching over you and you can see her every day by listening and paying attention. What an amazing love you both shared. I can feel it very much through your words. Thank you for sharing your feelings. Blessings to you my friend. :)

Barbara Purvis Hunter from Florida on March 20, 2012:

Hi Rusticliving,

I am so happy you shared your true story with us. I do hope you will write a book, because I feel it would be a best seller.

Yes, I am a believe of the spirit world, and if you are open minded they will communicate--I believe it all.

My older sister died when she was almost four from burns she received in a fire on my grandparents farm. She died on Christmas Day.

I was only three and I missed her so much I was her little shadow, and I did not understand why she was put in a box in the ground.

One night I was looking out our bedroom window and there she was waving at me and smiling. And when I was ill she

would visit me.

And I still see love ones after they die, they are the same but a solid light gray color.

I have only told a few in my family, and I tell them I don't care if they believe it or not---and they never say anything.

My grandmother had the gift also.

Thanks again for this hub.

Julianna from SomeWhere Out There on March 20, 2012:

I have seen them. But nothing like yours. I believe in the paranormal and ghosts. After dying and coming back I have dreams that happen. At first I did not like it, but now it has settled in. I do not care what people say God gives people gifts and they are not evil gifts they are gifts so that we can share with each other. Now if I can only have peace with mom's passing then I know it will be okay. I know when I die she will be there, but I miss her so much my heart hurts sometimes.

You have a beautiful gift and thank you so much for sharing it with us. You are a blessing to everyone that comes into your path. Voted all the way across and a triple thumbs up! :0

Thank you so much for sharing Jools99. There is absolutely nothing wrong about being a skeptic, however, with that said, You mentioned how blown away you were with this women who told you things that she could have not known. I think, and I may be wrong, but I think your skepticism has gone from a 10 to a 9 perhaps? The more experiences you encounter, the more open your mind will be. I am glad you had the reading. That tells me that you are searching (subconciously or not) for some answers. It's a great beginning! :)

Oh gosh.. now that gives me goose bumps. That is definitely a case of NAD. I am so sorry for the loss of your son, but if any comfort is there, it's definitely knowing that he is definitely communicating with you and your husband. Have you had any other experiences concerning your son since then?

Liz Rayen (author) from California on March 20, 2012:

Wow is right. What an amazing story Lilleyth! It's too bad it's out of print. Would definitely love to read it.

Jools Hogg from North-East UK on March 20, 2012:

Fascinating hub. I work with two women who are both very sensitive to the spirit world. I am a skeptic to be honest but one of them did a reading for me last Friday from something owned by my grandmother and she told me lots of meaningful things she could not have known; I was blown away. the other lady regularly sees ghosts at her home and she sees them around us all as auras. I think whatever it is, it's a gift! Really enjoyed this, voted up and shared.

One more comment about NAD.

After my son died of leukemia at Johns Hopkins his car had to be driven home. My husband, who had been listening to a Top-40 station stopped for gas. After filling up a church choir was singing on the radio: "God is so good to me...God is so good to me...God is so good to me". We have never heard the song since, and he did not change the station to a religious station. This was clearly a case of NAD.

Suzanne Sheffield from Mid-Atlantic on March 20, 2012:

Wow. This is really taking an interesting turn. In Incredible Coincidence by Alan Vaughn, on page 91, Case 77, NAD he tells 4 stories by D. Scott Rogo quote: "My first encounter with the Library Angel concerned my first book, NAD: A Study of Some Unusual Other-World Experiences, which I began writing in 1968. NAD refers to a little-known phenomenon in which a person suddenly hears music of inconceivable beauty that seems to emanate from no apparent source. Yogis were familiar with the experience and terms the music NAD (a Sanskrit word). During the summer of 1968 I decided to write a book of such experiences, despite one slight problem -- I had no case material other than one case to work from. It was only a couple hours later that the mail arrived and to my astonishment, out of the blue, was a letter from a young woman...who, having read an article of mine on a different subject, sent me a 3-page description of her encounter with NAD." There are several "Library Angel" stories in the book, which is out of print.

Thank you alissa. I find that the elderly and children are the most sensitive to any spirits primarily because children have no fear and the elderly have an understanding. Your grandmother must have been a wonderful woman with such insight on so many levels. :)

That is so awesome Susan! I have several friends both in Hawaii and on the mainland that have this gift far greater than I as well. You know that old saying "If you don't use it, you'll lose it?" It's very true. There was a time where I would get so busy with my life that I would shrug off any feelings, etc. So the communication minimized between myself and my guides.

Once I resumed my position with them, it slowly came back and I'm so happy it did. You have this gift as well. It's just you have never known how to use it or recognize when you are being visited. If you do any type of genealogy or family history work, I suggest you spend more time with it. If not, start. This is a perfect area to get yourself aquainted with them. As a geneologist on Kauai, I worked in one of the most active places and there were spirits all over this place. It's truly amazing to me. I remember one incident where I was creating rehearsal tapes for the members of the choir for a huge Pageant that would be produced on the island. I sang the soprano tape and there was another woman who did the alto, and a gentleman who did the tenor and bass. We went through all the numbers recording the parts and when we rewound the tapes (all of them)to listen and make sure they recorded correctly, we heard additional choir members faintly in the background. On the finale piece, the last three words were, Amen, Amen, Amen. It played back with the choir behind me singing "Amene, Amene, Amene" which is Hawaiian for Amen. Truly amazing!

Audra, Many of which I cannot speak of at this time, however, one thing that I did find out was that I have had more "visitors" come to me that I was not aware of. I learned how to listen more intently and was also taught how to pull totems for others. :)

That's so interesting! I never heard that term before. :) I can't wait to read your hub on that. Looking very forward to it! Thank you for your wonderful comment Lilleyth!

This story totally gave me chills! My great grandmother use to have premonitions and she would be right about every one of them. Great job with telling this story - I didn't want it to end! Voted up :)

Susan Zutautas from Ontario, Canada on March 20, 2012:

I found this very interesting as one of my family members has this gift. She has a spirit guide and can communicate with those that have passed. I wish I could do this.

I would love to read more about this if you do happen to write any more hubs about your experiences.

iamaudraleigh on March 20, 2012:

You responded to Cindy..."Found out some interesting facts about my background. :)" What were they?

Suzanne Sheffield from Mid-Atlantic on March 20, 2012:

Amazing story, which I certainly believe. Your "Answer Domain" is actually what is referred to in paranormal literature as a "library angel" which I've experienced numerous times and about which I will write in an upcoming hub. Thank you for sharing this.

Liz Rayen (author) from California on March 20, 2012:

Thank you SanneL. You are correct in that some are more sensitive to the spirits around us. I was not sensitive to it at all for the many years, then little hints kept popping up and I decided to pay attention to them a little bit more. The weird thing about it all is that I was never frightened by any of this. I may have not quite known how to explain some things, but I was never afraid of it. Meditation is the key for me in sensing what and who is around me. Every time I stop and really listen to my surroundings, I feel a presence. I would love to hear of some of your experiences. Thank you so much for your lovely comment! :)

SanneL from Sweden on March 20, 2012:

Wow, this was truly a fascinating and amazing story! It just shows there are spirits around us and they are around us all the time. However, some are more sensitive than others. Or they just don't know what it is they actually sense.

It took me many, many years, before I realized and recognized there were spirits around me. I have not sensed them as strong as you have, nevertheless, they give me hints of their existence. I believe you answered this question beautifully!

Liz Rayen (author) from California on March 19, 2012:

I did go to Four Corners as well as a few other places. Found out some interesting facts about my background. :)

Cindy Murdoch from Texas on March 19, 2012:

This is a very interesting story. Does it continue? Did you go to 4 corners?

Liz Rayen (author) from California on March 19, 2012:

Thank you Victoria Lynn. Actually everyone has that opportunity to experience the paranormal. Some are more sensitive to it than others. It took me awhile to recognize when it was happening. Thanks for your comment :)

Victoria Lynn from Arkansas, USA on March 19, 2012:

Wow! I have never discounted paranormal experiences. I think there is so much out there that we don't even understand. I am fascinated by people's experiences and wish I could experience them myself. Thanks for sharing this. Pretty amazing. Voted up, interesting, awesome!
