In the days when judges led Israel, there was a famine. A man from Bethlehem in Judah named Elimelech moved his wife Naomi and their two sons to live in Moab. Elimelech died in Moab. Naomi found two wives for her sons. After 10 years the two sons died as well. Naomi and her daughters-in-law were left as widows. Naomi hears that the Lord provided food in Israel and prepares to return to Judah. Naomi tells her daughters-in-law that they should stay in Moab and find new husbands. One daughter-in-law Orpah kisses Naomi and goes to her parents home; the other Ruth refuses to leave Naomi's side. Ruth makes a vow to go with Naomi wherever she goes and to serve Naomi’s God. Naomi and Ruth travel back to Bethlehem.

Ecoggins, thank you delineating this remarkable Old Testament book. As brief as it is, it is surprisingly wealthy in examples of sacrifice, faith, patience, love and kindness. It also affirms the care which God takes of all who put their trust in Him.

Thank you for recognizing this great book!

Nicely Done! I always thought it fascinating that Jesus is a direct descendent from David's bloodline which includes Ruth as well as Rahab!! Thanks for your consistent outlines of the Bible!!
