The Genesis Gap is an interesting study and I hope the following will make some sense of it. There are arguments for and against and I tend to think the argument for it is more believable but it hasn’t any bearing on our salvation per se. That’s a different matter. If asked about this topic, most Christians have no idea about it at all, despite what has been written on theistic evolution simply because it isn’t taught in churches these days. Yet it was written about by a Scottish theologian, Thomas Chalmers in the 19th century. Even though this man is credited with first bringing it to light, many other theologians before him also preached it. And this was well before Charles Darwin proclaimed his theory of evolution. Many Christians today agree that human existence on the Earth is only 6000 years old with the 1000 year millennium to come to complete the 7000 year / 7 day creationist view. Adam to Abraham – 2000 years, Abraham to Jesus – 2000 years, Jesus to now – 2000 years, the millennium yet to come. The age of the human race is indeed only 6000 years old but this has nothing to do with the age of the earth. Some believe there was nothing before that. (YEC’s) But if carbon dating is to be believed, isn’t that asking a question?
This is the first ‘mystery’ in the Bible – let’s look at these first two verses in Genesis.
1. In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. This sentence can either be considered as a statement or a summary but it doesn’t say when or how He did it, we simply know that He did it from nothing and it was perfect.
2. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
These two verses contain the story of the original creation while the verses after record the story of God’s full re-creation of the earth over 6 literal days in complete detail. And the original creation certainly was beautiful. But verse 2 is suggesting the earth was a desolate place and in darkness at that time. God made light, verse 3 on the first day but the sun wasn’t made until day 4. Between verses 1 and 2 Satan rebelled, he wanted power and was cast out, along with fallen angels. He had to be removed from heaven before Adam was created to cause him to sin as God would never cause Adam to sin. Angels are spirits to serve God but humans, made in God’s likeness, were His children and Satan felt secondary because he craved a physical body like Adam. Satan still accesses heaven, where he condemns us until the time soon to come when there is war in heaven and he is cast out forever.
God told Adam and Noah: Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth. Replenish is another word for re-populate and meaning the same thing – if God didn’t mean that He would have said to multiply and fill the earth, as if He was saying it for the first time. Both Adam and Noah were told to re-populate the earth after a major destructive event, namely a catastrophic flood on two occasions. Peter, an apostle of Jesus and led by the Holy Spirit says in his epistles, 2 Peter 3: 5 - 7, For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgement and perdition of ungodly men.
The Bible only refers to two total and catastrophic floods; the first one is in Genesis 1: 1 & 2 above and the second is the flood in Noah’s day, Genesis 7, which was between 1544 and 1656 years later and nowhere near the scale of the one before Adam. My reasoning of what Peter said – the words heaven and world are to mean the universe as a whole. (In the same context.) Earth only refers to the planet earth so by his words ‘heavens were of old’ and the highlighted text is in reference to the scale of the flood of ‘the world that then was’ and represents the universe. Noah’s flood was only confined to earth and had no effect on the sun, moon and the stars or the upper heavens, which were all there as in the time God restored it before He created Adam. What Peter said is NOT a reference to Noah’s flood because it didn’t cause the same desolation, so logic demands it must be a cross-reference to Genesis 1: 2 as there is no other Biblical alternative and cannot be ignored. So if Peter’s reference to Genesis 1: 2 is as it is meant, then the Holy Spirit is calling your attention to something very significant that millions of creationists are blindly overlooking. Specifically that of a glorious ancient world that God created in the distant past and had long since been utterly destroyed; plunged into darkness and overflowed by a great raging flood on a universal scale at some time between Genesis 1: 1 & 2. If you’re wondering what God did with all that water, Genesis 1: 6 & 7 has the answer.
In this original earth God gave Satan stewardship over it, along with angels referred to as ‘sons of God’ who fell in with Satan and these fallen angels are known as the Nephilim, who were giants in those days - Genesis 6: 1 - 4. But that wasn’t enough for Satan, he wanted to be above God and so he rebelled, which is why God destroyed the original earth and is a reasonable explanation for the Genesis Gap. (Satan being a spirit whom God created isn’t yet destroyed.)
In 2002 a startling discovery was made in Western Australia that is causing scientists to rethink their theories. A tiny Zircon crystal was found in ancient rock formations and is Uranium-Lead dated to be about 4.5 billion years old. Chemical analysis of this crystal shows that it was formed in liquid water and if that is so then it gives credence to the Genesis gap. If this is to be believed, then all scientific, geological evidence must also enter the debate. Proof is found in the fossil remains of all prehistoric things living in that time including the bones of Neanderthal man-like creatures. (Hominids.) In this ancient earth that had living things in it, there must have been a sun to support life but the first flood was of such a scale to cause a ‘galactic cosmic mess’ across the universe that it ‘blacked out’ the sun and caused an ice age, which destroyed all prehistoric life between 10,000 and 13,000 years ago. (There is no mention of an ice age in the Bible, but geological evidence does support it.) This extinction occurred suddenly and on a vast scale all over the earth with many different species of animal remains all mingled together that have been found not only in one place but over half of the earth’s land mass. In one case a whale was found entombed with elephants. In the mix of these bones and fossils, some lived in the warm temperate zones yet they were found in the frozen wastes of the Polar Regions. This evidence is largely ignored today because it doesn’t fit the prevailing scientific ideas, and the ‘Young Earth Creationists’ have seized upon it as evidence of Noah’s flood but the types of animals on the earth at the time of this first flood – dinosaurs, mammoths etc. were not here in Noah’s flood. After the first flood and before the reconstruction, God cut a clear line from the original earth between plants, animals and hominids and created everything new again, including Adam, the first man. The first 5 days shows how quickly God worked on re-creation. God re-created the plants and animals early on the sixth day, just before He created Adam on the same day and is proof of why we didn’t evolve from apes or hominids. God brought all the animals to Adam and he named them but a ‘helper’ could not be found for him, so God made Eve from a rib from Adam late on the 6th day also. On the 7th day He rested from all His work and saw that it was good.
Satan assumed that by luring Adam and Eve into sin he would destroy God’s plan to eventually replace him. But the fall of man merely opened the way for salvation through the saving work of Jesus on the cross. In this original earth Satan was the first to sin long before mankind was on the earth and death was passed down through him. Death is evident from fossils/bones from all living things; they either died, or fought and died, so death was here well before Adam. And unlike Adam, who was created in God’s likeness, hominids weren’t, they were just a higher form of all the animals in that time and like apes only communicated with noises. All creatures have a limited power to think and solve problems but it is not to the same degree as we who were made ‘in God’s likeness.’ Science has shown there is no direct link in the DNA of prehistoric man of the original earth and present day man. Adam was a completely new creation on a re-constructed earth. (DNA can show what area of the earth you originated from but that’s it.) Some plants and probably some animals were brought across to the restored earth, because they could co-exist with Adam and Noah but dinosaurs couldn’t, which is why there were no dinosaurs, they all ceased in that first flood, and they were never on the Ark that Noah built. Uranium-Lead dating, if it is to be believed as evidence, proves it. The newly re-constructed earth that Adam walked on was absolutely pristine on the surface. But under Adam’s feet and hidden in the rocks are the buried fossils/remains, which we have now discovered and is God’s record of the truth of the existence of a previously created original earth.
If all the above is true and I think it is, it could be a help to those struggling with choosing in a belief of God and the Bible or evolution.

So many put their faith in the church system, tying it to salvation but are blind to the perfect way that Jesus made available for all who would earnestly seek it. Nothing that is of man is the strait and narrow way.
- THE RAPTURE PRINCIPLE: Is It Before, During, or After?

Thank you for reading the article and I can understand how you may be unsure of the truth in it - it's not the easiest theory to believe simply because no-one was there but one does have to ask certain questions knowing the age of the earth is much older than 6000 years. And I must admit I too, was sceptical of the theory at first.
You mention being new to Hubpages - you will find that most who post here do so for the edification of others but there are a few who just want to push their own agenda and you've already discovered one of them who has a lot of strange ideas and as mentioned, I'll be interested to see how he answers your good question.
I liked the way you presented your article and I'm going to read some more of your articles. And again Lou, good to make your acquaintance.
Lou Tenant from Somewhere in America on November 11, 2019:
Hi Jack. I came from your comment on my article. I’ve researched Gap Theory before and it is certainly is very interesting.
I’m not sure if I believe that theory but I agree that the earth is not 6000 years old (I’ve run into quite a few young-earthers). I think too many times people try to extrapolate scientific facts from the Bible, which is not meant to be a science book.
But anyways, nice article! You present a very interesting analysis.
Jack Jenn (author) from Living in hope on planet earth. on September 17, 2019:
Believe whatever you like - and I hold no atheist views.
On reading your comment I think you could have added more 'between the lines' so that I could have made a better response.
All you have done is make statements, which would lead others, as well as me, to scratch their heads and wonder.
Rodel Padrique on September 17, 2019:
Gap Theory is another example of compromise theology to appease liberal theologians. Gen. 1:1 defines the creation of time and space, indicating earth as the center of creation of material universe.
An old earth theory is in conflict with many facts of pure science (i.e., purely based on scientific observations and not theoretical assumptions).
Carbon dating is method of measurement based on certain assumptions.
The Book of Genesis clearly tells us one thing: a young earth.
Our compromise to the atheist scientists has undermined the Word of God.
We say it is not relevant to our faith, but it is the foundation of our faith.

Thank you for reading this hub and your comment - very much appreciated. Firstly, I want to say I agree with you about taking God's words as literal, I don't want to be guilty of adding or taking away anything - I'm only saying that I believe what I've said about the gap theory.
How the English language can be confused if enough information isn't supplied in a response so that the recipient fully understands the meaning conveyed. In my response to your hub it seems I have misread what you were saying - I thought you were defending the theory, which is why I also thought TSAD was criticizing your views - perhaps I am now confused!!
If you ever get an opportunity with a little time on your hands, I would appreciate your opinion on the only other hub I've posted in these pages, which is my END OF DAYS - just how close is it, have you any idea? I should pre-warn you, it is well over an hour to read and fully digest and I would value your comment on it.
William Kovacic from Pleasant Gap, PA on April 17, 2018:
Hi, Jack. One problem I have with the gap theory is that in the direct opposite of Paul's statement in Romans 5:14. Death reigned from Adam. Death is the result of sin (Romans 6:23). According to the gap theory, the world was in sin long before so God had to recreate it.
There are many things that I disagree with, and I believe with good reason, but I'm not going to debate them here. As you said, it doesn't affect our salvation at all, and I appreciate your sincerity.
Jack Jenn (author) from Living in hope on planet earth. on December 12, 2017:
Firstly, because of your last response, allow me to apologise for my first response to your comment in which it appeared to be negative and without a full explanation of what you really meant - I would have thought you could have been a little more thorough in saying what you didn't understand.
You did the same thing in my other article END OF DAYS, which left me confused - you didn't give any valid reasons for your negative comment there either. I would only suggest if you make a comment positively or negatively, please, explain it clearly. In regard to that article, I have made considerable changes and additions to it but I doubt those changes would have included a suitable response to you because you didn't explain yourself properly.
As I mentioned, on comments you have made on other articles, you do a similar thing , which isn't edifying or helping the author with your views. Being negative is ok, as long as you do it in a nice way.
In response to the points you make in your last comment to me as I perceive them - as they can be taken 2 ways:
1. I agree - If we are living for God, He will always give an opportunity to turn back when we fall, that is mercy.
2. No argument from me on that score.
3. By definition: Psychological Projection is a theory in psychology in which humans defend themselves against their own unconscious impulses or qualities (both positive and negative) by denying their existence in themselves while attributing them to others.
4. No argument with that one either, although some find it hard.
5. If we profess to be Christians we should always try to avoid condemnation within ourselves of others but we will get it from unbelievers in not many days hence.
Again my apologies if I have judged you wrongly.
Jay C OBrien from Houston, TX USA on December 12, 2017:
What does that mean?
I believe God will act as a mirror and we will see ourselves more objectively.
I believe God is Good and always Good.
I believe people Project themselves onto others.
Forgive to be forgiven.
This is my understanding.
Jack Jenn (author) from Living in hope on planet earth. on December 11, 2017:
From what I've read of your own articles and particularly how you comment on articles from others, you don't seem to understand anything.
Jay C OBrien from Houston, TX USA on December 11, 2017:
If all the above is true and I think it is, it could be a help to those struggling with choosing in a belief of God and the Bible or evolution.
Please summarize theory and proof for I do not understand.
