The Four Seals of Revelation

The First Seal: The Rider on the White Horse

'I watched as the Lamb opened the first of the seven seals. Then I heard one of the four living creatures say in a voice like thunder, "come!" I looked, and there before me was a white horse! Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest.'

Revelation 6:1-2 New International Version

This rider could refer to the 'Antichrist' or the 'Beast Kingdom.' The Beast Kingdom could refer to the New World Order. The New World Order is the Antichrist seat of power. Daniel 7:7 speaks of this, "After that, in my vision at night I looked, and there before me was a fourth beast- terrifying and frightening and very powerful. It had a large iron teeth; it crushed and devoured its victims and trampled underfoot whatever was left. It was different from all the former beasts, and it had ten horns. The ten horns may refer to the ten magna carta regions of the world. The United Nations has divided the world into ten regions. This is the last empire to rule the world before Christ come to rule in His Millenial Kingdom.

The Second Seal: The Rider on the Red Horse.

'When the lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, "Come!" Then another horse came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make people kill each other. To him was given a large sword.'

Revelation 6:3-4 New International Version.

This rider could refer to a great WAR to come upon the world since the rider is to take away peace from the earth and make men kill each other. This war is a catastrophic disaster which will claim millions of lives. It could be referring to the Third World War. As of the present, with Russia-Ukraine conflict, the world could be on the brink of a major global war. There are other major hotspots of war in the world, the China-Taiwan crisis and the Iran-Israel conflict. These wars may also lead to major global war.

The Third Seal: The Rider on the Black Horse.

'When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, "Come!" I looked and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand. Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, "Two pounds of wheat for a day's wages, and six pounds of barley for a day's wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!"

Revelation 6: 5-6 New International Version

This rider refers to the coming economic collapse of the world due to the occurrence of World War 3. Due to a major global war, the world will experience major economic upheavals including worldwide recession, and inflation. Economic depression is an aftermath of a global war. People of the world will experience extreme poverty. A day's salary will be just sufficient to make a food purchase for only one meal. It implies that people will no longer have the luxury of eating three or more meals a day. They will be fortunate enough if they can have two meals in a day.

'When the lamb opened the fifth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, "Come!" I looked, and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine, plague, and by wild beasts of the earth.

Revelation 6:7-8 New International Version.

Worldwide famine is one of the major aftermath of economic depression. There will be shortage of food supply due to global war. Famine will be experienced not only by the poorest sector of the society but even by those from the middle income classes. Pestilences or pandemics come also with the opening of the fourth seal. Sword may refer to crime and violence or war. Because of hunger, more people will resort to stealing and committing crime. Wild beasts refer to the wild animals that will attack human. Because of a catastrophic global war, much of agricultural lands and forestries will be devastated. There will also be a tremendous effects on wildlives. Wild animals like crocodiles will begin to attack humans for their survival.

Now, the question is, are these seals open?

Many preachers believe that the coming of the Antichrist is accompanied by the opening of the first seal. Since, the Antichrist has not yet arrived thus no seal has been opened yet. According to them, the Antichrist will come as an advocate of peace and will settle disputes among nations. But his reign will lead to widespread bloodshed and famine.

But still many believe that the seals have been opened. They believe that the seals are the beginning of sorrows that will lead to the Great Tribulation or may be referring to the birthpains of Matthew 24.

A Way to Escape

There is a way to escape this catastrophic event. It is written in Daniel 12:1, "There will be a time of distress such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time your people - everyone whose name is found written in the book - will be delivered "

God provided a way out through Jesus Christ our Lord. He is the only way to the Father and His Name, the only one given through which we will receive salvation. To experience the salvation offered by Christ, we must first acknowledge our depravity or sinfulness before Him. The natural man is born with a sinful nature as it is written in Galatians 5:19-21;

"The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies and the like. I warn you as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God."

Taken from Galatians 5:19-21 NIV

Our sinful life will lead us to death and destruction as it is written in Romans 6:23,

"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

This death refers to the second death which is being thrown into the Lake of fire as written in Revelation 21:8.

Christ died on the cross in our place. He took the punishment that is meant for us because of our sin. We will receive forgiveness for our sin and inherit eternal life if we will put our complete faith on Christ finished work on the cross as the only acceptable sacrifice for the atonement for our sin.

As part of putting our faith in Christ, we should turn our back on our sinful life. We should abandon our carnal, worldly, selfish ways. The Lord Jesus says in the Gospel of John that He is the Light of the World that those who believe in Him should not remain in darkness. Repentance is a part of believing in Christ and can never be separated from a life of faith. Repentance is a 180 degree turn from darkness to light. A true believer forsakes his sinful life and abide in the Light of Christ. To abide in the Light of Christ is to abandon sin.

When we truly believe in Christ, our name will be written in the Lamb's Book of Life and the promise of His deliverance will be with us.
