The "Down - Low" Going on in the Church! ~ Part I ~

Pastoral Counselor ordained Elder/Minister Ambassador at Alpha 7 Ministries M.A.Christian Clinical Counseling Certified in Creation Therapy

The “Down-Low” Going On within The Church

I must preface this by saying that the “Down-Low” is a rather controversial “taboo” subject. You may be offended by the contents before you; in general it is preferably for adults only? It may ruffle your feathers a bit? However, I do think that having an open transparent conversation with your mature teens should be considered at your discretion…

You want to make sure that they know how to keep themselves safe. For some of everything is happening all around us in the world today. They may be more aware of this than you know? You might be quite surprised by their reactions? This helps to further protect them from acquiring felonious information in regards to the “Down-Low” from an outside source as well as keeps the lines of communication open. They may know more than you think? If you are sensitive to the topic of sex; read no further!

What is the “Down-Low”?

The “Down-Low” is a discreet sexual encounter between a straight married man as well as unmarried men who have sexual relationships with other men. They often have sex with their friends and other men without telling their spouse or partner. Surprise! This happens within many races and cultures on every social economic level. Often random one night stands… Many who are professed Christians! The fact that it is kept secret should tell you something. It is actually another form of homosexuality.

GOD'S design for marriage has not changed

In this 21st century it becomes increasingly clear to me why God designed marriage in the way in which He did. One Man and one Woman. He has not changed His design. I understand that the Supreme Court of the United States voted against the WORD of GOD concerning marriage. God our Heavenly Father created us and knows what is best for us. Yet, He allows us to choose. His design for sex within marriage was to give us healthy sexual boundaries. This keeps us free from unwarranted emotional pain, STD’S, Herpes, HIV and AIDS and so much more!

The "Down-Low" is a homosexual act... According to the Word of God homosexuality goes against nature. It is considered by God to be an indecent act! This is still in your Bible if you have not torn it out! What is interesting that we have many people who believe they should have rights because of their sexual preferences. God does not sanction same sex relationships! You can elect to have sexual relationships with whomever you choose. But it is very important to know that the only sex that GOD sanctions is between one man and one woman who are married.

What GOD says about Men with Men & Women with Women

Scroll to Continue

“Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchange the TRUTH of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator- who is forever praised. AMEN! Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged the natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.” Romans 1.

I believe all of God’s Word! Do as you please but nowhere in the Word does God condone any form of homosexuality, adultery, fornication, sexual abuse or any other sex outside of marriage. Deliverance yes. God is able. The woman that was caught in adultery, Jesus told her To go and sin no more!” I realize that these may be chosen lifestyles for many? You can choose as you please… But it does not make it right in the eyes of God regardless of who says so. It does not have God’s blessing. The Word of God is supposed to be our "Life Manual" We; meaning believers are supposed to be "in the world but not of the world.” John 17. World; meaning cosmos the devil is the ruler of the cosmos. We are physically present in this world, but we are children of the kingdom of God! We are sanctified by believing and implementing the Truth of God’s Word in our lives!Thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven...”

The enemy seeks to have you/us step outside of the Word of God. We are to stay on the Narrow Path. The Word of God always points us in God’s direction. It is a "Lamp unto our feet & a Light unto our path." It shines the Light on darkness and can keep us or if necessary point you back to the right path as well. This is why we all need Christ Jesus as our Savior and Lord, to save us from the power and clutches of sin reigning within our lives. Sin separates us from God!

Alternative Lifestyles

I have counseled with some who have been ensnared into lifestyles of alternative sexual relationships. I have seen the turbulent aftermath of what it does to the soul, the person, spouse and family… In many cases it creates an ongoing cycle of distrust, rejection, selfishness and secretiveness that causes much ambivalence, despair, paranoia, insecurity, resentment and anxiety for those involved.

When the man on the “Down-Low” is in ministry this can be devastating. This causes much conflict within the family as far as their belief system. For example; it is not uncommon that the woman may seek the comfort of another woman. This in turn leads to a confusing physical relationship that further complicates her life as well. This is the ultimate rejection so her self esteem is at stake. She begins to question her own sexuality? To assuage her guilt she now turns to drugs and or promiscuity. This should not be!

The various family members begin to act out rebelliously and justify turning to worldly living… In some cases becoming a lesbian, a homosexual or bi sexual… The children become further confused as to what is right? They begin to experiment and then become promiscuous as they reach puberty, get involved in drugs and also rebel against the parent or parents… Which begins to perpetuate another vicious cycle of dysfunction? Now the world has entered their home and the enemy has covertly shifted the entire focus of the family from God’s principles…

Sexual misconduct should not be embraced or excused especially so when you are called to minister. To be a Minister means that we commit to preaching, teaching, proclaiming and living out the principles of God within our own lives and encourage others to do so as well. We are supposed to present the TRUTH of GOD'S WORD regardless of what the world, the masses or anyone else says is okay! We are not to compromise the Word of God in order to make others comfortable. Jesus overcame sin in the flesh for us ALL! Whenever you are experiencing extensive inner turmoil or conflict one must or should seek wise spiritual godly counsel and seek to resolve the issue or conflict that hinders you from confronting whatever the problem at hand might be that is keeping you from reconciling yourself to the Lord.

On; "Fix my life!"

For an example Iyanla Vanzant on her show "Fix my life" has presented an episode that depicts two different Ministers who have been involved in multiple secret homosexual affairs. Sad but true they both preside over congregations. The emotional turmoil and stress they are experiencing is candidly showcased. The consequences of this behavior choice has greatly impacted the marital life of one and for both ministers their family life as well as the congregations that they pastor. The inner pain that they are experiencing due to the shame and secret deception is quite evident. Many do not realize that this is a "seducing spirit" in operation.

One can not have inner peace apart from God. God is compassionate caring and loving, but He does not ever condone or sanction any behavior that is contrary to His Word. Here lies the conflict. By what spirit are you ministering to God's people or non believers when you are practicing sin? The call to ministry is not to adjust GOD'S WORD to make anyone feel comfortable in sin. Sin is what separates us from God.

We are having so much conflict within "God's Church" because we all to often continue to allow others to feel safe in sin! Sin is comforted and you are labeled judgmental when you bring it to their attention. Here lies even more conflict. Tolerance and acceptance is being promoted as LOVE! "GOD IS LOVE!!!" The BIBLE is HIS living WORD! Please Please, spend some time in HIS WORD! Within it one can discover HIS principles for life and living.

The world tells you that you can do however it is you feel. GOD Loves us ALL but HE does not sanction, support or lead us to do ANYTHING that ever goes against HIS WORD! This is why we ALL need JESUS CHRIST as SAVIOR & LORD! Allow HIM HIS place in your life daily to speak to your heart and deliver you from the flesh. "GOD IS MORE THAN ABLE!" We must diligently seek HIS "WILL and HIS WAY" above ALL else to get HIS CHURCH back on track! If you are here please STOP!!!

It really boils down to spiritual warfare!!!

The Word of God is powerful and was given to help us navigate through this maze of life. Darkness is all about us. Were it not for the Light the Lord has provided we would all live in darkness. We must proclaim the Truth of His Word and encourage others to draw closer to the Lord in these last days. I know what it is like to be censored, discredited, misunderstood and oppressed for believing and proclaiming the Truth of God’s Word. Yet, we must still STAND upon the Word of God! God's Word is being fulfilled right before our eyes. HALLLELLLUJAH ANYHOW! “In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires. These men will divide you who follow mere instincts and do not have the Spirit. But you, dear friends, build yourself up in the most Holy Faith and PRAY in the Spirit.” Jude 1.

When you see someone drowning do you try to help them drown? The point is we are called believers for a reason. We are to believe and receive His Word. The world and its ways of manipulation have worked itself into God’s Church. I am not talking about the building. I mean the lives of many baptized believers! REMEMBER; The world says do whatever you feel is right” The Word of God says “REPENT!!!” Which means to make a change and turn to God; not to repeat and let it become your lifestyle? We are not to jump into the quicksand of life.Be merciful to those who doubt; snatch them out from the fire and save them; to others show mercy, mixed with fear – hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.” Jude 1.

It is important not to compromise the Word of God even if it means being rejected, mistreated and or misunderstood! It is much more important what God knows rather than what others think? Don’t give in to false doctrine that goes against what God says. We are supposed to influence the world not let it influence us. Spend time daily meditating upon His Word; Be still and know!”

What does GOD have to say?

If you are in ministry remember you are operating under a "seducing spirit" and know that the LORD is not pleased! Know this, sexual sin harms the body, mind and soul. There is a reason why you feel conflict and shame. When you think about it; is it really worth it? You must fast and pray and ask for deliverance! God can heal you!

It is so important that we personally know God’s Word for ourselves! We must develop and ongoing, growing daily intimate personal relationship with the Lord. This is about learning how to honor God with your bodies. In the Old Testament sacrifices were offered to God for the sins of the people. Jesus became the ultimate sinless sacrifice for the sins of the world. He atoned for the sins of the world on the cross. We are to offer our body as a sacrifice to the Lord. We are to strive daily to live our lives disciplined by His Word, As we do this our lives are transformed and our minds can be renewed daily by the Word of God! Do you believe God knows what is best for us?

“Therefore, I urge you brothers/sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God –this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer by the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – His good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12.

One must seek to rise above any behavior that is not pleasing to the Lord! This closeted homosexuality, adulterous, bisexuality is dangerous. Any sex outside of marriage between and man and a woman is outside of the will of the LORD! The “Down-Low” is one of those patterns of the world, and it is inappropriate. If you are sleeping with someone else's spouse you are "out of order" as well!

I realize that the Church is divided on the subject of sex. The world sanctions just about any kind of sex... No one wants to talk about sex really, or address the growing issues? Do we continue to just bury our heads in the sand like an ostrich? Many go to worship, sing, pray, dance, shout, fellowship and then go right back in many instances to a lifestyle that is contrary to what God says is acceptable. Worship really becomes a temporary distraction or just another social activity to attend? This should not be. Worship is a time to worship GOD! Think for a moment; what if Jesus were to return tomorrow or today? Or in the midst of worship? God is aware of the Truth… True worshipers mustWorship HIM in Spirit and in TRUTH.”

The idea of worship is to honor the Lord is it not? Are we not to learn to worship Him with our lives daily?

Should we as believers not be concerned? Concerned does not mean you make someone feel comfortable in sin. It means that you care enough that you want to do something about it to help them…God gives us to freedom to choose. But it is important to be aware of the consequences when you choose to operate outside His Will. When you know better, you can do better. Many do not realize that they are looking for love in all the wrong places. The enemy just uses sex to win a stronghold over your life. He always perverts what God made for Good!

Know when and how to confront wisely

If you know that your spouse is indulging in a sexual relationship outside of marriage; I suggest stepping back. If you suspect this is so, be careful how you confront your spouse. Set aside some time when you both can intelligently talk. It is important that you get yourself tested? Prepare yourself. Keep in mind he may not be ready to confront his behavior. He may be offended if he is a leader in the Church… This makes it just that much more important. Talk about your relationship and how you feel. Allow him to talk about how he is feeling. Ask him about his current sexual relationship with you before you approach his suspected infidelities if you are not sure?

When you find out this is so? Know you cannot change him; he has to want to change. Many women marry men thinking that they are going to change them? It won’t happen! Only God can do this. KNOW YES: "HE IS ABLE!" You can and should model godly behavior. You can intercede and pray fervently! This is his problem and you are not the cause. It is important that he seeks help and you both get godly counsel as to how you go forward?

Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral (Hebrews 13:4) As a counselor for young women in crisis pregnancies I have...

Tonya Williams, Thank You! It is important that we speak TRUTH! I PRAY this is helpful to others as well! What is going on should not be! However we must alert those who can possibly be spared from this type of heartache! Learning how to have self-control is a virtue, It is natural to have desires… It is important to know that whoever you join yourself with becomes a part of you… This is why God designed marriage! You are so right! “Marriage is still a sacred institution and should be treated as such.” Amen!!!

I pray that when that time comes for you; your potential spouse will love and respect you and be willing to create a mutually satisfying marriage together…

Thank you for taking the time to share! Be encouraged! Since you are not married you still have time to make sure that your potential spouse truly shares your Love for the LORD and same core values! In His Love, Joy, Peace & Blessings!

Tonya Williams on July 30, 2010:

I thought the information was very necessary in today's time. But also makes me more prayerful being a single woman. In the world you have to flesh when dating but when it seem worse in church that's just terrible. That's not why and how he established marriage. Marriage is still a sacred institution and should be treated as such. God does not accept or back this at all. If your married act like and respect your mate.

Elder DeBorrah K Ogans (author) on June 29, 2010:

Williamjordan, Thank You! AMen! "This is not God's Way!" It is important that the lines of communication are keep open and there is healthy discussions about sex to help this generation of youth. I firmly believe that the Church needs to stand firm on God's principles in regards to sex & Marriage. Either you "Believe" His Word or not!

Thank you for taking the time to stop by and share. In HIS Love, Peace & Blessings!

Williamjordan from Houston TX on June 28, 2010:

This is well written Hub full of Good imformation sex must be talked about to save the childern from falling into these lifestyles, the church needs to stand up and say this is not God's way.

Elder DeBorrah K Ogans (author) on June 14, 2010:

BkCreative, Thank you! How interesting! This is a great example, "Brokeback Mountain" is referred to as a love story when the hearts of the wives are being obliterated? No matter how you look at it, it’s cheating everyone involved! Too many use the word love so loosely!

This is just another way of devaluing the significance of traditional monogamous marriage! This further shows what happens when the natural purpose for marriage is abandoned. Pandora’s Box has lost it lid…

The Down-Low is on the rise. It is a selfish act that goes against God’s design for marriage. Thank you for sharing, In His Love, Peace & Blessings!

Elder DeBorrah K Ogans (author) on June 14, 2010:

Kristeen, Thank you for stopping by to share! May the Lord Bless you for your continued sincere efforts to help many women live victoriously! I have added your article on the "The TRUTH about sex outside of MARRIAGE!" I think this will be helpful to many as well! God truly is able! "The TRUTH sets you FREE" In HIS Love, Peace & Blessings!

BkCreative from Brooklyn, New York City on June 14, 2010:

Ah, yes - the Down Low. There was this movie called "Brokeback Mountain" and reviewers were calling it a love story between 2 men. Wait a minute - both of these men had wives - this isn't loving. This is cheating - and yes, the down low because it is men having sex with other men - and hiding behind women and the institution of marriage. It happens all too often.

Thanks for bringing this to the attention of so many!

Christine from Michigan on June 13, 2010:

This hub is right on target DeBorrah. I give it 2 thumbs up. I hope many people read it and take it to heart. People need to hear the truth!

Elder DeBorrah K Ogans (author) on June 10, 2010:

Rev Lady, Yes, Yes! I touch on “Sodom and Gomorrah in Part II a bit…

“The Bible is blazingly clear when it comes to human sexuality. Unfortunately, man perverts the Word to satisfy their own desires. Whether homosexuality, adultery, fornication, bestiality, incest, we are talking sin.” Amen & AMEN! ! We are on the same page here!

God is so gracious and kind! I am so thankful for His Holy Spirit and His WORD! What would we do in this ever changing world without HIM? I cannot imagine> To GOD Be The GLORY!

Thank you for visiting and sharing your insightful and confirming comments! In HIS Love, Peace & Blessings!

By the way I have missed you! It is always a pleasure! "Be STRONG in the LORD and in His mighty power..." May HIS favor rest upon you always!

Elder DeBorrah K Ogans (author) on June 09, 2010:

James A Watkins, You have further confirmed the need to bring this delicate subject to the forefront! I believe that we should be able to talk or discuss anything! You are point on! “Many "main line" churches now condone homosexual behaviors—to their everlasting shame.” Amen! What is frightening is the need to take away the shame or stigma and brand it an acceptable lifestyle. So now who sets the standards? The “DOWN-LOW” is not something to play with… What is next?

There is a “BIG TIME” definite falling away from embracing the TRUTH of God’s Word!

If we cannot stand on the WORD of God what else is there to stand on…. Thank you Professor for stopping by and sharing your thought provoking comments. I pray that others will really spend some time with the Lord and slowly digest the TRUTH of His WORD! As always it is a pleasure! In HIS Love, Peace & Blessings!

Elder DeBorrah K Ogans (author) on June 09, 2010:

Lady E, All is well! After much prayer I was led to write this, I did not get into the personal specifics of the individuals. It is never my intention to expose anyone… But to share enough so anyone can see the seriousness of the sensitive topic of sex outside of marriage on various levels.

There are always repercussions for speaking out… There are gay pastors and congregations here is the US and the number is growing… My intentions is to speak forth and proclaim the TRUTH of God’s WORD without compromising any of it! This is the “Call” the Lord has on my life. Ministry must go beyond the walls! Being called “Homophobic” is a label that comes along with this as well as being called judgmental. I know without a doubt that is not the case! You are then also put under a microscope… I believe ALL of God’s Word!

“God is Love!” Loving someone does not mean you condone what God says is sin… He did not force us to be robots; He gives us all a choice? This is why I say; “you have the right to choose but it does not make it right.” This is about letting others know some of the consequences no one wants to openly discuss! It can really get complicated! I discuss a bit more in Part II.

The Gospel does not belong to men or women of God! God is clear when it comes to “sex outside of marriage” The World says experiment, you have alternatives and then changes the laws and rules to accommodate… No one wants to look at the correlation between what is going on in the world with such a blatant respect for God our Creator and Maker and what His Word says…. I also realize that everyone is not a believer I ask; if you are a believer what is it that you Believe?

I believe God when His Word says, “He will never leave nor forsake me!” It is better to obey God than man! “It is well with my soul!” There are so many who are confused within and outside of the Church …It is important to KNOW the Word for yourself! Thank you for sharing your concerns, In HiS Love, Peace & Blessings!

Elder DeBorrah K Ogans (author) on June 09, 2010:

Jiberish, It really is quite disturbing! I think it is so important that we make sure we hand down an invaluable legacy of morals and integrity to our children and grandchildren. Be encouraged! The Love of God is stronger than anything! What is happening is a fulfilling of the Scriptures! “Because of the increase in wickedness the love of many will grow cold…” Matthew 24. Many are conforming to the world rather than having their minds spiritually transformed! Romans 12. This is why it is important to know the Lord and His WORD so one can tell the difference! As children of God “we overcome evil with GOOD!”

Thank you for sharing your comments and concerns! President Obama and his family needs our prayers as well! In HIS Love, Peace & Blessings!

RevLady from Lantana, Florida on June 09, 2010:

Ah, yes, we do live in modern day Sodom and Gomorrah.

The Bible is blazingly clear when it comes to human sexuality. Unfortunately, man perverts the Word to satisfy their own desires. Whether homosexuality, adultery, fornication, bestiality, incest, we are talking sin.

God is not mocked. The choices you stated are clear: The world says “ do whatever you feel is right” The Word of God says “Repent!”

Wonderful, meaningful, and needed HUB!

As it is written, the time will come when man will not endure sound doctrine; but their own lusts.

May the LORD bless you and keep you!

Forever His,

Elder DeBorrah K Ogans (author) on June 08, 2010:

A M Werner, Thank you! I AGREE! It is God that gives the increase! You are point on about this world and “YES” it is quite sad! “The fact that men can't be with other men without one or more thinking sexually about the other is so rebellious to the Lord - the same with women.”

Your girls are right on, funny and I am sure cute as ever! We too enjoyed great healthy open discussions with our children as they were growing up! Now that’s funny; and TRUE! “at least its not a girl”

But, I must say I am so glad that they are all grown…. I often tell them it is going to be interesting how you all manage to get your children to maneuver through all of this....? God truly is able!

As always it is a pleasure! Thank you sharing, In HIS Love, Peace & Blessings!

Elder DeBorrah K Ogans (author) on June 08, 2010:

Sarah V, Thank you for taking the time to stop by and visit! Cheating destroys trust in the marriage. However when one is truly remorseful trust can be rebuilt... It is so selfish and really has a lot to do with the cheaters very own insecurity...

I do hope your friend the best and hope she takes time to heal. Transparency is important in a relationship as she moves forward I pray that she finds someone who has the same values.

Thank you for sharing, your comments are always welcome!

In HIS Love, Peace & Blessings!

Elder DeBorrah K Ogans (author) on June 08, 2010:

Habee, Straight men want to have sex with other men because they are confused and seeking to fill an overwhelming sometimes compulsive sexual desire and void... The world provides curious options that should not be; for some they have now turned into lifestyles!

Thank you for stopping by to share, In His Love, Peace & Blesssings!

James A Watkins from Chicago on June 08, 2010:

I was not familiar with this term. But I am acutely aware that many "main line" churches now condone homosexual behaviors—to their everlasting shame. Thank you for this illuminating article. It is important to stand for what is true, good, and right. And you do.

Elena from London, UK on June 07, 2010:

Hello, hope all is well.

I admire you in writing this important, touchy subject. I read it and hope a lot will be encouraged not to do it or to get out of it. (if they are in it)

In UK, we have Gay Pastors. I find that if it's brought up in conversations, sometimes I'm reluctant to talk about it, so I don't upset anyone. These days, if you comment on it, you are classed as being "Homophobic". Honestly, sometimes I wonder if that is a new word in the dictionary.

I pray for people in such situation, that they will be delivered, particularly the "Gay Pastors" who are supposed to be leading people on the straight and narrow. (Not the blind leading the blind).

Wish I was as bold as you. Best Wishes, Elena.

Elder DeBorrah K Ogans (author) on June 07, 2010:

Lady Guinevere, This a wonderful Psalm that focuses on the Awesome power of the Lord! There are consequences for sin! God is truly able to heal and deliver... "12 As the distance of east from west He hath put far from us our transgressions." This is symbolic of His healing!

Thank you for sharing, In His Love, Peace & Blessings!

Jiberish from florida on June 07, 2010:

DeBorrah, this is disturbing, but nothing surprises me today. In an interview with Rusty Humphries, it seems that even Obama engaged in this in 1999. It breaks my heart to see this generation so lacking morality, it makes me sick to think I have 2 beautiful grand children who have to live in this kind of society. Keep Hubbing!

Elder DeBorrah K Ogans (author) on June 07, 2010:

Nobody, Welcome it has been a while… We have all inherited a proclivity to sin. There is a void within us that only God can fill. This is why it is so important to develop an ongoing, growing personal and intimate relationship with Him through Jesus Christ our Lord & Savior! Or is He?

The enemy seeks to shift your focus to walking in the flesh…. This is why we must address all sexual infidelities as being displeasing to the Lord that are out side of marriage between one husband and one wife!

God has designed marriage as the proper relationship to have the mutual sexual needs of the couple to be fulfilled! Each couple needs to work together for mutual satisfaction… It is true about prayer. But we must also talk and discuss ways to resolve sexual problems in the Light of His Word as they arise! Pushing dirty laundry to the bottom of the pile only serves to cause mold and decay to the rest of the clothes… It is an odorous stronghold! I agree "it stinks in His nostrils"

The “DOWN-LOW” is cheating and shameful! Repentance is much needed... Absolutely nothing is hidden to God! The enemy seeks to destroy and discredit the children of God anyway he can… Through sex he gets two or more at a time… This is why I stress that the their needs to be a growing intimacy in relating to the Lord. Like it or not we are all transparent to Him!

In HIS Love, Peace & Blessings!

Elder DeBorrah K Ogans (author) on June 07, 2010:

Cari Jean,

Thank you for sharing, What a nice surprise! I believe we need to keep in the fore front at all times is that what is most important is that God does see everything! We must encourage learning to TRUST GOD! Although He allows us to choose He knows what is best! The consequences for going outside of His spiritual boundaries are throughout the Bible! Therefore we must promote His WORD!

Pastor Ted Haggart is a great example that most of us are aware of… if not I suggest reading up on his story… You are so right we need to have someone we are accountable to. In His Love, Peace & Blessings!

Allen Werner from West Allis on June 06, 2010:

DeBorrah, great message. We can plant and water but only the Lord can give the growth. No one can change anyone that does not want to change. It is sadly amazing how culturally this world as a whole has changed. The fact that men can't be with other men without one or more thinking sexually about the other is so rebellious to the Lord - the same with women. Our younger daughters are in their teens now and not allowed to date yet, but they comment about "cute" boys. When we say something they like to respond with, "At least its not a girl." My wife and I can't even argue with that anymore. In this world, the fact that they aren't attracted to women is a blessing. Peace.

Sarah V on June 06, 2010:

I love to hear from your wisdom from God Mrs. DeBorrah. I didn't even know about this problem! I do have a close friend who was cheated on and it's definitely devastating. Now she's going through separation and divorce but I'm just so thankful they didn't have kids and she's only 30 so her life is not in ruins.

Elder DeBorrah K Ogans (author) on June 06, 2010:

Judah’s daughter, There is a misconstrued concept as to what the Love of God really means. A title for some can mean entitlement that excuses behavior that some peers will not readily confront.

In the ministry of Christian Counseling the objective is to use the Word of God as a barometer to determine and point out what is right and wrong and encourage spiritual growth. One always has the right to choose…. Quite often a loophole is found within a secular counseling concept and quite often support is found, that condones what is contrary to the Word, Instead of empowering it enables….

The Power of the Holy Spirit to deliver, restore, renew… for many just becomes a concept rather than a powerful experience. The Holy Spirit then becomes a very surface public display of emotions. It is not always how things appear….

This is why discernment is so very very important. It is often confused with one being judged. Discernment gives you a keen sense when something is not of the Lord. There is much responsibility that comes along with the gift of discernment. One must “Be STILL and KNOW”

There are times when worship is very emotional, powerful and Spirit filled. At times intermingled is an element of varying spiritual warfare… However, God is still worthy of Praise!

It is possible to find yourself alienated and labeled to a degree if you don’t go along. Perhaps an attempt to possibly silence you or limit your circle of influence as well. Or say you do not want to be under someone’s authority? However one can see this as a time for the Fruit of his Spirit to flourish in you as you cling to the Lord… It is really important if necessary even if it is but a quiet stance to not support what you know is not right! God will stand with you! I must say there really is a shaking going on…I have seen and heard a lot…What is scary nothing is hidden to the Lord! This is why I say it is more important what God knows rather than what others think….

Thank you for sharing. It is important that we do as the Lord directs us knowing that he is fully aware of our heart! Your insight and words of encouragement are appreciated! In His Love, peace & Blessings!

Elder DeBorrah K Ogans (author) on June 06, 2010:

Loves to Read, It is quite disconcerting as well as perplexing. Jesus healed those He touched. He did not make them comfortable in any sin. Sin separates us from God! It is necessary that this comes to the Light! Sad but true clergy is quite involved as well… This further complicates the issue. Repentance is much needed... If not this gives the enemy an occasion for an ongoing stronghold and this hinders the spiritual growth to the body of believers at large…

We must pray many do not in the moment see the ripple effect the various sexual sins is having on the Church, community and … There is a greater penalty for clergy; “Woe to them that lead God's sheep astray.”

Thank you for stopping by to share your insight, In His Love, Peace & Blessings!

Wow. I've never heard of this! Why would a straight man want to have sex with another guy??

Debra Allen from West By God on June 05, 2010:

Psalm 103 (Young's Literal Translation)

Psalm 103

1By David. Bless, O my soul, Jehovah, And all my inward parts -- His Holy Name.

2Bless, O my soul, Jehovah, And forget not all His benefits,

3Who is forgiving all thine iniquities, Who is healing all thy diseases,

4Who is redeeming from destruction thy life, Who is crowning thee -- kindness and mercies,

5Who is satisfying with good thy desire, Renew itself as an eagle doth thy youth.

6Jehovah is doing righteousness and judgments For all the oppressed.

7He maketh known His ways to Moses, To the sons of Israel His acts.

8Merciful and gracious [is] Jehovah, Slow to anger, and abundant in mercy.

9Not for ever doth He strive, Nor to the age doth He watch.

10Not according to our sins hath He done to us, Nor according to our iniquities Hath He conferred benefits upon us.

11For, as the height of the heavens [is] above the earth, His kindness hath been mighty over those fearing Him.

**12As the distance of east from west He hath put far from us our transgressions.

Robert E Smith from Rochester, New York on June 05, 2010:

Sin is insideous and we are all prone to it. We are all capable of such things. We all need to pray for one another. We need to state the truth with Holy Spirit power. The "down-low" is nothing more than plain old sex and cheating. Just because it is with the same sex doesn't change a thing. Cheating on a spouse is evil and sex with anyone other than your wife or husband is of the devil. It is particularly distasteful to me because it is homosexuality. But really adultry and fornication outside of marriage of any sort stinks in the Lord's nostrils. "Pornea" the greek word covers all of the retched relations that the world is ready to accept as normal. The world is ready to throw marriage itself out the window in favor of all sorts of perversion. We must guard the church and each other and ourselves. Love you DeB.

Cari Jean from Bismarck, ND on June 05, 2010:

Deborrah - great job with a very difficult subject. I guess when Pastor Ted Haggart went through his thing, it would be considered, "down-low." I remember being so shocked about that thing. I think that's why it's so important for us as Christians to have people we are held accountable to and that we have complete honesty and transparency with one another.

Elder DeBorrah K Ogans (author) on June 05, 2010:

Stars439, You are quite welcome! So nice of you to stop by! "God is our fundemental source of goodness." I so agree! He also gives us healthy boundaries in His Word to protect us! Thank you for sharing your comments. In His Love, Peace & Blessings!

Elder DeBorrah K Ogans (author) on June 05, 2010:

Greenlily, Thank You! Your words confirm that you understand where I am coming from! I think it is important for us to keep in mind that God really is Omniscient! He is aware of what goes on in the dark… We cannot continue to not address the things that are going on … God is so Gracious that He allows us the freedom to choose! But that does not make it right! It is important to know what the consequences are when one chooses to walk contrary to His Word! Thank you for stopping by to share! In His Love, Peace & Blessings!

Judah's Daughter from Roseville, CA on June 05, 2010:

Wow. I wonder how well these "clergy"-men are hiding this activity, for I wouldn't think the church would be tolerant of it. 1 Cor 5:5 comes to mind: "I have decided to deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of his flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus." Of course, this is about a man who was having sex with his father's wife...sexual sin! As a counselor, I'm sure you get "confessions" that bring darkness to light. Just being aware of this going on is both enlightening and concerning.

I've often wondered about those who go to church, or even hold an office in the ministry, that behave in such it that they seek to do more "religious" works in order to help them feel "less guilty" of thier sin? And furthermore, to attempt to "hide" to society? They certainly can't hide from God. How many child molesters, wife beaters, etc. "hide" in church? 1 Pet 4:17 "For it is time for judgment to begin with the household of God".

You've addressed a very important subject so many prefer to "tip-toe" around. Praise God for your heart, to both expose and help those dealing with this in their marriages and homes, and exhort those enslaved by this sin unto the truth of God ~ hopefully, to bring repentance and "snatch them from the fire". God bless you!

Donnaisabella, You have made some great points! It is quite amazing yet disturbing! The one question one must ask; is God pleased?

"Oh for a close and committed walk with our Lord, how we all need encouragement and admonition" This is so true!

Pray for those who are caught up in sexual sins......

Elder DeBorrah K Ogans (author) on June 05, 2010:

DrPastorcarlotta,Thank You! A little humor is good it helps break the ice for this serious subject! The "DOWN-LOW" is taking too many down to a lower level. Too many causalities, the enemy is so clever. That is why he operates in the dark. It is so important to be able to recognize his many devices... But we know "God is able!"

Spiritual discernment is so very important!

We must continue to proclaim the Word of God! There is much going to to attempt to hinder us from speaking the Truth of His Word!

Wow !!!! Great hub DeBorah.

I have never heard that terminology but this world has gone crazy with sexual depravity. I for one will be sharing your hub around as this unholy behaviour must be exposed.

The biggest horror is that you say this is going on in the clergy. I know in some churches it was common knowledge with children, but not as you so rightly pointed out. So that people are made aware. May God have mercy on their souls because they are the worst kind of offender.

Woe to them that lead God's sheep astray.

God bless you abundantly sister.

Greenlily from Philippines on June 04, 2010:

Oh I love this article dear DeBorrah. I hope people who take fornication and homosexuality as common things would be enlightened. I could not agree more when you said "Do as you please but nowhere in the Word does God condone any form of homosexuality, adultery, fornication or any sex outside of marriage!"

We need this kind of rebuke in today's immoral society!God bless!

Isabella Mukanda from Fort Myers on June 04, 2010:

I have read your article with a lot of interest. A lot of these things are quite new to me. I am amazed at the things happening in the church of God that we as Christians would like to be tolerant about. As you point out very strongly, God wants true worshipers who will worship him in truth and in spirit. Oh for a close and committed walk with our Lord, how we all need encouragement and admonition. Thanks for writing about it; its an eye opener.

Very enlightening hub, excellent read DeBorrah. People down low is all over now.Even in elementary schools. We have to continue to love one another to spread God's Word. Even if it is unpopular in the church.
