The 3 Questions of Life

The 3 Questions

This article will explore the three questions of life: Where did we come from? Why are we here? Where are we going? Most people wonder about these questions and I would like to answer those questions, according to my beliefs, supported by the Bible.

Where Did We Come From?

There was a Premortal life. There is not a lot of detail on this in the Bible, but we know that there was a War in Heaven (Revelation 12:7-11), where Michael and his angels fought against the dragon (Satan) and his angels. The dragon (serpent) was cast out, to deceive the world, along with his angels (Jude 1:6). Satan was known as Luficer at that time(Isaiah 14:12).

Also, another example of premortal life is where Jeremiah was ordained a prophet before he was born (Jeremiah 1:5).

God had a plan. Jesus was chosen before he came to earth (Romans 8:29, Ephesians 1:4, 1 Peter 1:20).

Consider how different each person is. Each of my children has a different personality. This tells me that we each have a unique spirit. An example of this in the world is in Disney's recent movie: Soul. A major part of this film is that it has spirits that exist before they come to Earth.

Why Are We Here?

Life is a test. We have agency (freedom to choose), but we are also accountable for our actions. Agency is something that God will not take from us. We must choose the right on our own. And this is part of the test. It is especially critical at this time with so many problems going on in the world.

It is important to choose the right and to keep the commandments. Examples: James 2:14-26-Faith without works is dead. Revelations 20:12 states that we will be judged according to our works.

Where Are We Going?

There is an afterlife. We all have different experiences and challenges, so there are multiple heavens (1 Corinthians 15:40-42, 2 Corinthians 12:2). Are things really black and white? Would a merciful God send people to burn eternally and tortured in Hell?

In regard to life's purpose and where we are going, one depiction that made me consider the afterlife was the TV show 'The Good Place'. I believe that it may have some aspects of truth, such as:

  1. We will all be judged by our thoughts, words, and deeds.
  2. We can continue to learn, grow and progress in the next life.
  3. There are not just two places in the afterlife.

What Shall We Do?

Choose you this day whom ye will serve (Joshua 24:15). Jesus Christ is the way. He can help us to overcome physical death through the resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:22), as well as spiritual death through repentance, by always trying to follow Him and to keep the commandments. The two great commandments: Love God and love your neighbor (Matthew 22:36-39, John 14:15).

This is a beautiful and informative article. I think every one that is doubting the existence of God should read this.

Succinct and easy to see your points. We lived before, we live now, and we will live continuously in the place of our choosing.
