Thanksgiving Living

Give freewill thanks and praise

The Bible instructs believers to give thanks with praise, and it should be our own choice. I have been in church services congregants are commanded to stand on their feet and told to clap and give Him praise. He wants our worship, praise and thanks to come from our hearts, and not because of force or out of coercion.

2 Chronicles 5:13-14 tell us that thanks and praise bring in His glory cloud.

The trumpeters and musicians joined in unison to give praise and thanks to the LORD. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and other instruments, the singers raised their: voices in praise to the LORD and sang: “He is good; his love endures forever.” Then the temple of the LORD was filled with the cloud. So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the Lord had filled the house of God.

Psalms 100:4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

Leviticus 22:29 And when ye will offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving unto the Lord, offer it at your own will.

Medley of thanks and praise

Have someone to lead corporate thanksgiving

It is Biblical to have someone to lead the giving of thanks the same way there are praise and worship leaders. You can also worship, praise and give thanks whenever you desire. I know people who are singing and praising and saying "Thank You Jesus as they drive their vehicles.

Nehemiah 11:17 And Mattaniah the son of Micha, the son of Zabdi, the son of Asaph, was the principal to begin the thanksgiving in prayer: and Bakbukiah the second among his brethren, and Abda the son of Shammua, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun.

Psalm 69:30

I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.

Psalm 95:2 Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.

Psalm 107:22 And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing.

Psalm 116:17 I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the Lord.

Give thanks for Jesus

Always give thanks

I Thessalonians 5:18 In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

I heard a pastor explain this verse as being thankful in all situations. He said it does not indicate that you give thanks for bad things that happen, but you have a heart of thanksgiving towards the Lord. Other New Testament verses that indicate thanks should always be given are:

Ephesians 5:20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Philippians 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

Colossians 3:7 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

Believers in Christ who may find themselves in situations where they cannot think of anything to be thankful for should always be thankful that Christ died for our sins.

Many today do not celebrate Thanksgiving Day for variosu reasons but. If you are thankful every day, the fourth Thursday in November can take on an additional meaning for you. It can be a time to come together with family and friends to give corporate thanks at home, in church or some other venue.

Shout to the Lord

Give Him highest praise

Psam 98:4-9 New Living Translation

4 Shout to the Lord, all the earth;
break out in praise and sing for joy!
5 Sing your praise to the Lord with the harp,
with the harp and melodious song,
6 with trumpets and the sound of the ram’s horn.
Make a joyful symphony before the Lord, the King

Be happy and joyful when you give thanks. Shout your worship praise and thanksgiving to Him each and every day.

Thanks -giving-thanks-living

Giving thanks should be a daily occurrence for believers in Christ. Thanks-giving-living can be done 365 days of the year.

2 Corinthians 4:15. And out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of them that make merry: and I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small.

If you decide that you do want to observe the national holiday on the fourth Thursday of November, there is nothing wrong with that either. Should you find yourself having a day where you cannot find reasons to thank Him, just keep Psalms 107:1 in mind.

"O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endures forever."
