I use my pen to fight against social evil. We must stand up together to change this world to be a better place for the next generation.
Love Your Neighbor as Yourself
Be Holy To Have Fellowship With God
Certain things draw us to very close to God. Let us discuss it today. They are:
1. Be Holy: If you want to live a life that is close to God you need to adopt the qualities of God. Leviticus 19:2 “Speak to the entire assembly of Israel and say to them: ‘Be holy because I, the LORD your God, am holy. God asked Moses to “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” A Holy God looks for holiness in me and you. God cannot associate with people who are not holy.
What are the areas in which we need to be holy? Different areas of our life are to be kept holy. Our talks, thoughts, behavior with fellow beings, etc. need to be kept holy to enjoy an excellent relationship with God.
Mathews, 5:8 says "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God."Our hearts must be pure to see God. Jesus said: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them. For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, those evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance, and folly. All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”
It clearly says, outward things will not make us unclean. From our own heart come all the evil behaviors and make us unclean. If it is so, one thing is clear. By controlling our heart, we can keep ourselves pure and holy. If you possess a deep desire to enjoy fellowship with God, you will have to control your heart consciously every moment of your life. Watch your heart every moment. Don't allow it to control you. You must control your heart. Remember! ‘Be holy because I, the LORD your God, am holy.
2. Respect God: "You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name. Many times we tempt to misuse the name of God in our ordinary life. Isaiah 42:8 “I am the LORD; that is my name! I will not yield my glory to another or my praise to idols. God desires us to respect him and give glory to God. Isaiah 48:11 How can I let myself be defamed? I will not yield my glory to another.
3. Worship God Not Material Things
Another point to remember to enjoy a good relation with God, you must worship Him only. Jesus says this the first and greatest commandment. Matthew 22: 37-38 Jesus replied: ```Love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul and all your mind.' his is the first and greatest commandment. Exodus 34:14 Do not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God. God would not tolerate someone who worships other gods.
Deuteronomy 5: 6-7 “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. “You shall have no other gods before me. In the above verse, it is evident that there are gods other than the True God. You should not worship these so-called gods. When God gave this commandment to the people around Israelites and Egyptians were having their own gods and they were worshiping them. Israelites were commanded that they should not make images or worship them. The commandment clearly says that.
“You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments."
But it is very sad to see that even in many Christian denominations, people make images and worship them. Images of saints, the apostles, and the crosses are some of the common images, in front of which people bow down and worship. We should not do that as it is against the will of God.
Worshiping money, sex, fame, and material things are common in this present world. People are running after these things, and it becomes their objects of worship. For some it could be money, others it could be a luxury life, and some others it may be sex. The ultimate effect of running after all these material things and pleasures draws us away from God.
4 Love your neighbor as yourself: God loves that
We love ourselves very much. That is why we try to satisfy ourselves with all the pleasures we can get in this world. We kill and covet to satisfy us. If you love your neighbor as yourself, you will share all that you have with your neighbor. You will no longer kill or covet. Jesus says that love your neighbor as yourselves. This is the second most important commandment.
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” The content of the Bible is summed up in these two commandments. All the prophets say the same thing. All the laws of God say the same thing. To have a good relationship with God means to have a good relationship with a fellow human being.
James 1:27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. SoSo the religion that is pure and faultless seeks two things.
- To look after the orphans and widows in their distress
- Keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
Love your neighbor as yourself is to be practiced daily. Look after the needy and the orphans in their distress. These are things that God asks us to maintain a good relationship with Him.
If all of us do the same thing — Love your neighbor as yourselves — there won't be any crime or troubles in this world. Then we can lead a peaceful life. This earth will turn to heaven.
5. Offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God.
Offer our body to God as a living sacrifice is another way to allow God to take control of your life. Romans: 12: 1-2 "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, and pleasing to God—This is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is— his good, pleasing, and perfect will." (You need to study the point No. 5 along with Point No. 6 below.)
6. Allow God's Spirit to Dwells in your Midst: Apostle Paul says (1 Corinthians 3:16-17) Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple. If you want to have a true relationship with God, you need to allow God's spirit to dwell among you.
Paul again says (1 Corinthians 6:18-20) Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commit are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies.
2 Corinthians 6:16 What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.” Therefore, “Come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.”And, “I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”
It is also to be noted that Acts 17:24 “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he gives everyone life and breath and everything else." God does not live in a temple or a church built by the human hands. He is omnipresent, that means he is present everywhere. And He lives within you and me. He does not need your money or things. He provides all things for us.
7 Have fellowships with God: When God created Adam and Eve he used to have fellowship with them. In the evening He used to visit Adam and Eve and spent time with them. That is what God is looking from us too.
When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah. After he had become the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked faithfully with God for 300 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Enoch lived a total of 365 years. Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more because God took him away.
We all have a very busy schedule on our calendar. Every minute of our days is pre-allocated to different things that we need to do. Have you allocated time to spend with God? It is important to allocate some time to have fellowship with God. Having quiet time with God, or reading the word of God and spending time in prayer and meditation are some of the ways you can have fellowship with God. Do not forget to adjust and allocate time to have a quality fellowship with God. It is rewarding.
