Some herbs interact negatively with prescription medications making herbal remedies unsuitable in these instances. Additionally, some herbs may be unsuitable for babies and young children, the elderly or during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Growing Your Own Herbs

Even if you only have a small patio or balcony space you can try your hand at growing your own herbs. Many varieties will grow well in pots and for some, such as mints growing in pots is often recommended as a way to contain their fast spreading natures. If you do not have access to an outdoor space, some herbs will grow happily on a sunny windowsill indoors.

If you grow your own herbs or have leftover bought fresh herbs, these can be dried and stored for later use. All dried herbs should be stored in clearly labelled packages or containers and stored away from heat sources and direct sunlight. Clearly labelling the containers means that you will be able to keep track of what you have easily and safely be able to select what you need at a later date.
