12men went to spy out a land, that God had promised to give to them. Ten of the spies returned from spying out the land with an evil and fearful report-They reported that there were giants in the land and the people were stronger than the Israelites. They also said that they seemed like grasshoppers in comparison to the people…It was a land that swallowed up the inhabitants. Why did they bring back such news? FEAR spoke to them and they listened to it. Fear blinded them to God’s word; because God had already promised to give them the land. It was a done deal for Him. (Numbers 13:1-2)
Fear cripples and makes you believe that a difficulty or problem is impossible to solve. It makes you see and imagine things that are not there. It opens you up to the lies and deceit of the devil and makes you blind to the truth of God’s word and promises. I daresay that fear is a killer.
However, two of the men, Joshua and Caleb came back with a different report from the SAME land; they told the people, “HAVE NO FEAR, for they are bread for us and God is with us.” Why was their report different? They decided not to listen to the voice of fear, but the voice of faith.
Every day, when you are confronted with situations in your personal life, marriage, relationships, business, work, career, etc, the voice of faith and fear are always speaking, it is up to you to choose the voice you want to give heed to.
It’s no news that the lingering COVID-19 pandemic is scary and it’s speaking fear to people. Globally, millions have lost jobs and businesses, some have lost loved ones, some are overburdened with payment of school fees, some are anxious about their finances and how to cater for their family, some it’s rent or their health. Whatever it is, no matter how factual and bad the situation looks, don’t listen to the voice of fear.
Remember Jairus, one of the rulers of the synagogue, he came to meet Jesus to heal his daughter, but the daughter eventually died before Jesus got to the house and someone came to tell Jairus, “Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?" That was the voice of fear. See what happened next “As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, (voice of fear) he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, “Be not afraid, only believe.” (Luke 8:49-50) The voice of faith (Jesus) spoke to Jairus to shut down the voice of fear. If you don’t shut down the voice of fear, it will shut you down.
That was what Joshua and Caleb did, they spoke out to shut down the voice of fear that was coming from the 10spies. They said, “Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it…don’t fear the people of the land, for they are bread for us.”
They were both fired up to go and possess the land, because they knew they could not be defeated by the people of the land. How possible is that, when God was with them? They were all prepared to have them for ‘breakfast’ and ‘eat' them like bread’.
Frolicking with fear is like dining with the Devil. Garrison your heart with faith in God, especially in these present times. Ask for wisdom and courage to face that situation, shut down the voice of fear and listen to the voice of faith; God’s written and revealed word and that matter would be like ‘bread’ for you.
Actions to Take:
*Think on the things God has promised you and ALWAYS have them before you.
*Tell yourself it is a done deal. Declare it. Believe it.
*Read and meditate on the word; faith comes by hearing and hearing of the word of God.
*Make a deliberate decision not to entertain fear in your life. No matter what!
*Bind the spirit of fear and kick it out of your life.
*Believe and receive soundness of mind.
*Shut It down, before it Shuts you down.
