Seeking to DEVOUR

Seeking to DEVOUR

We’ve identified who the Dragon, the Serpent of Old, the Devil and Satan is in the first section of my hub LUCIFER: The spirit of Antichrist! and the second section of my hub Is Lucifer the Devil?

In the Word, Satan is described as having a purpose, using his distinct characteristics to accomplish it. What exactly is his purpose?

We know that the Dragon caused a war in heaven and was thrown down with a third of the angels to the earth. SATAN HATES GOD, and therefore is out to DESTROY all humanity, especially God’s children. The Word says in 1 Peter 5:8 that he is our adversary, who prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”

The devil will deceive you or bring you close to God.

The devil will deceive you or bring you close to God.

Satan: The god of This World

See, God created Man to rule over all the earth, but Man gave that authority to Satan when they fell; thus he became the “god of this world”. 2 Co 4:3-4 states, “And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.”

So what are the characteristics of the god of this world, the Devil? Looking up all the definitions, here is a summary:

1. He is diligently observant, enchanting and crafty.

2. He is called a twisted serpent and twists the Word of God.

3. He is sly and cunning, artful and malicious.

4. He is an opponent, the arch enemy of good and is an adversary.

5. He accuses God’s children before God day and night.

6. He is a false accuser and slanderer.

7. He endeavors to scrutinize, tempt and try.

8. He is used by God for discipline and wrath (2 Sam 24:1/1 Chr 21:1; 1 Cor 5:5; Revelation 12 regarding the Great Tribulation persecution).

9. He is a liar and the father of lies.

10. He entices us to sin and commit abominations against God.

Because God HATES SIN (any form of unrighteousness), the Devil desires to enslave all people to sin, and to especially cause God's children to sin. He does this to people and through people (Romans 14:13, 20-21; 1 Cor 10:32).

For more information on how Satan wars against God, I invite you to read my hub The Battle for Your SOUL.

The Unforgivable Sin

1 John 5:16 states that there is an unforgiveable sin (Greek #264). This is specified in Matthew 12:31-32 “Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven men, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven. And whoever shall speak a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever shall speak against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age, or in the age to come.” The clarification is found in Mark 3:29-30 “but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin” – because they were saying, ‘He has an unclean spirit.’”.

Hebrews 10:29 “How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and insulted the Spirit of grace?”

Eph 6:16 "taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one."

Eph 6:16 "taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one."

Forgivable Sin

1 Corinthians 6:9-11 fornicators, idolaters, adulterers, effeminate, homosexuals, thieves, the covetous, drunkards, revilers, and swindlers

Galatians 5:19-21 immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these.

This would include liars and those who blaspheme the Son of Man, Jesus Christ in the flesh.

You can Overcome the Devil!

Earlier we read that Man gave Satan his authority. When Jesus died on the cross and overcame the grave, all authority was given back to Him! (Mat 28:18). We must give Jesus Christ the Lorship over our lives, just as Adam and Eve gave lordship to Satan, else we remain enslaved to Satan's domain.

In the Bible, we read about how Satan submitted to God's authority in the stories of Job, Israel's captivity and even Peter (Luke 22:31). Some think that everyone is protected this way, but it doesn't appear so. Consider that Job, Israel and Peter were God's children!! Also consider that the Devil has children (Mat 13:38; John 8:44).

So how do we give Lordship back to Jesus? First, receive the Light of the World, Jesus Christ into your heart and walk in His light. 1 John 1:7 states, “but if we walk in the light as He Himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.”

See my hub Come to JESUS: Salvation. Confess your sins (admit that you are a sinner) and He will forgive you and cleanse you from ALL unrighteousness! (1 John 1:9)

Once you are saved (born again), the Word states that we are to “resist the Devil and he will flee from you!” (James 4:7)

The Word also says that the Lord God has given us power over the Devil through the Holy Spirit. Luke 10:19 states, "Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall injure you.”

Finally, He has given us His armor! (Ephesians 6:10-17)

  • God Created Satan – Did God Create Evil?
I would say this is a 'strong meat' question (Heb 5:14). The question came up as to whether God created Satan to be evil, or whether God created all things ‘good’ (as we understand it). Many people have also asked WHY God created Satan, or even allow

Vladimir, there is God and His angels (who are not the same 'person') and there is Satan (the Dragon) and his angels, including the fallen cherub of Isaiah 14 (who are not the same 'person'). That fallen cherub is the spiritual king of Babylon, the end-time angel of the pit, the angel of destruction, the king of Babylon (Antichrist) that will fall in Revelation, whose name is Abaddon/Apollyon (definition: destruction)...not 'Lucifer', a proper noun, inserted by the Catholic Church.

Vladimir Uhri from HubPages, FB on April 28, 2012:

Judah’s Daughter: To minister others we meet them on their level and their understanding. Of course it is good you studied the matter. We know that Lucifer name is Latin noun. He was surly not the archangel but cherub. He was renamed from lightbearer (Lucifer) to adversary (Satan). We know who adversay is no matter what we call him. I do not believe there are two persons.

Judah's Daughter (author) from Roseville, CA on April 27, 2012:

Hello, Vladimir ~ of course, you can say anything you like, which has been the practice of 'traditional' teachings since the name 'Lucifer' was inserted into the Holy Bible's text (it's actually NOT there). I used to believe like you because I never studied the subject. I decided to one day, to set out to prove what I'd always been taught and what you've just stated. The Bible does not support this view at all. I even started a forum thread to see if ANYONE could prove scripturally that Lucifer was the devil, let alone an archangel. Died out, as no one could do it...

So, if you want to see what the Bible has to say about 'Lucifer' and 'the Dragon, the Serpent of Old, the Devil and Satan', I welcome you to partake of the study:

Vladimir Uhri from HubPages, FB on April 27, 2012:

If you will allowed me to say: Lucifer is the name when he was created. Satan is he, who was renamed. Perhaps nick name is devil. But both have the same characteristics and it is sin, deception, the thief and the killer.

With love thanks.

Dorsi, hi! Nice to meet you!! Thank you so much for reading and commenting. Yes, we can ask God for the Spiritual gift of discernment that we are protected from being deceived (2 Cor 12:10). Satan and his apostles are "transformed" into a false "light" (2 Cor 11:14-15) and his workings will be so counterfeit that he might be able to even deceive the elect, IF it were possible, the Lord's Word says (Mat 24:24). Stay alert (1 Thes 5:6) and be filled with His anointing, the Spirit of Christ (Eph 5:18). God bless you!!

Dorsi Diaz from The San Francisco Bay Area on April 26, 2010:

Great hub and very thorough. Even though we know that in the end days it will be harder to distinguish evil from good, we will be able to discern through praying and fasting.

Keep up the good work of teaching Gods goodness!

Judah's Daughter (author) from Roseville, CA on August 21, 2009:

I recommend you read my hub called "Lucifer: the spirit of Antichrist" (link provided in this hub), which will answer some of your questions.

In my study, Lucifer is only mentioned in Isaiah 14 as the king of Babylon (which I believe to be spiritual Babylon), and his characteristics match those exactly of the prophesied antichrist, who will claim to be God. The Dragon is mentioned in Revelation 12 (Dragon, the Serpent of Old, the Devil and Satan). He is the one who gives power to the antichrist in Revelation. Because the antichrist and false prophet are cast into the Lake of Fire at the beginning of the millenial reign, and Satan is bound at the same time ~ then released a thousand years later, they cannot be the same entity, but OF the same entity (evil).

Heylel, Lucifer's Hebrew name means "morning star" in Isaiah 14 and Jesus is the "morning star" in Revelation 22:16, so this again points to the antichrist who claims to be God. Likewise, both the king of Tyre and the king of Babylon thought of themselves as gods. The end-time antichrist will do the same.

As far as Lucifer being an archangel, there is no proof of this either because in Ezekiel 28:11 on, the king of Tyre (if this is Lucifer?) is said to be an anointed cherub that was in the Garden of Eden. Couple this with Genesis 3:24, the cherubim were placed there to guard the garden. Cheribum are guarding angels, not archangels. Also, we never see angels taking the form of beasts (serpents or otherwise) in the Bible, only human form.

I've started a forum to ask Christians to scripturally prove that Lucifer (Heylel) is Satan; we'll see where it goes...

Sciantel on August 20, 2009:

There are two opposing forces, one is God, and the other is the Devil, or he's called that false light, in other words, Lucifer. Please explain to me why you think Lucifer and the Devil, or Satan as he is called is not Lucifer? All the Bible ever talks about is that other false light who is the Devil, who once was glorious Angel of light, Lucifer. There is no other. We are living in the Age of Lucifer. Or in other words, the age of the Devil, who will fool the nations.

He is a lizard, isn't he? I don't like him at all. I'm just glad he gets what he gets at the end. So much pain he's inflicted over his long life. So much death.

Christians must endure his constant attacks, but believers have no fear of him ~ he is sly and deceptive to those who don't know the Lord, Mike. Thanks for stopping by!
