Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. - 1 Peter 5:8 ESV
Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. - 1 John 3:8-10
What is the dark side like? If you could entertain for a moment how Satan carries out his evil work, what do you think he has up his sleeve? Spiritual warfare is real whether or not you believe in God. Satan will stop at nothing to win your soul. He will never play fair and he will always try to win through deception. He will use every tactic in the book and he will try to make every sin look really good in the beginning.
If you're filled with pride, you're his easiest target. Period. He knows you think you're too good for God and his goodie goodie agenda and he loves the lazy apathetic ones who could care less about God either way. The lazier the better as far as Satan is concerned. And let's not forget he adores the ones with very little self-esteem because he can play on their insecurities by using the prideful ones to attack them and carry out his evil work. It's all a part of his master plan. They don't call him Satan for nothing!
Satan is not just clever, he is also brilliant when it comes to getting under people's skin. The wayward ones are even more vulnerable to Satan's charms, especially if they were raised in a Godless home with no sense of direction or purpose. Satan doesn't care and he has many tools at his disposal. He will stop at nothing to destroy every soul in his path. Here are just a few of his greatest weapons that have caused so much damage and heartache the world over.
This is Satan's biggest if not greatest tool to destroy you because many are deceived into thinking that just lusting after someone is harmless. God didn't create lust. Satan did and boy, did he do a good job of it. Millions are hooked and he couldn't be happier. God created the very opposite of lust, which is a healthy wholesome desire for love, which many don't even want to hear about. Lust, on the other hand is perverted and depraved and there is nothing wholesome about it.
Lust overtakes your soul very much like a drug. There is no rationale behind it. It takes over your mind, and it doesn't matter if you're single or married, no one is immune to its power. If you're smart, you'll flee, but many don't want to and many can't even if they tried. The power of lust is just too great for some to overcome. They become entangled into someone's web filled with lust and they are burned by the superficial promise of love before they can escape it. He knows that if he can get your mind working in overdrive for all the wrong reasons that go along with lust, you become the biggest tool for his mission, and it isn't a mission of mercy. You become addicted to a relationship that's no good for you. And if he can't get you through a person, he'll use porn. He'll find you the most twisted porn that tears apart your soul. It's not a billion dollar business for nothing.
The cycle is neverending. He knows you'll go lusting from one person right after the next, and if that's not enough to keep you busy, he'll have you lusting for many at a time. Once you get bored with them, he's got a whole new crop waiting for you. It's neverending. If you don't believe Satan, just look at the dating sites loaded with millions of people looking for just a good time. The same goes with porn. You'll go from one porn video to the next with no end in sight. Lust always has an expiration date. It's never a happily ever after story, not by a long shot. He's laughing at you every step of the way. He knows that your appetite for lust makes you restless, irritable and obsessed. He knows you'll turn to alcohol, smoking, food or drugs to calm your nerves, but they never satisfy you. He's hoping that the tools you use to self medicate yourself with after being burned will give you an early grave so that he can greet you at your door after a painful slow death. He doesn't' care as long as he wins your soul.
For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions—is not from the Father but is from the world. - 1 John 2: 16 ESV
For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. - Romans 8:6 ESV
Anyone who has ever turned their back on God has a lot of pride to start with. Satan is delighted with someone like this. He could use them for his work because they don't want to do God's work. He loves the trendy cool hipster who could care less about God. When the prideful can't wait to to cut you down, Satan delights in them. He is very pleased with their cruelty. They are oblivious to the fact that they have become one of Satan's little minions doing his devilish work for free. Prideful people with their neverending sarcastic jabs can't wait to snicker at you behind your back. If you're trying to do God's work, you'll feel that "sick to your stomach" tension when you're in their presence. Their hate for you is not something the prideful can hide easily. They have money, intelligence, looks and power, but their hearts are made of stone. They don't care who they use as long as those people make them look good. Everyone becomes disposable and Satan loves that about them. Prideful people naturally become Satan's children by doing his work and they don't even realize it until it's too late.
But when his heart became arrogant and hardened with pride, he was deposed from his royal throne and stripped of his glory. - Daniel 5:20
The Love of Money
The love of money has destroyed many lives and Satan is delighted. Criminals will kill and steal for it in desperate times. Workaholics will burn sixty plus hours of their lives in the office every week for the love of money only to have a materialistic wife spend it all. Leaders will take bribes for the love of money. Prostitutes will give themselves to the highest bidder. It never ends and Satan couldn't be happier. Does a CEO need $900,000 a year? No, but Satan will make sure he gets that and then some along with his mansion and new trophy wife who will love him for his money, and not for his decency as she watches him discard his first wife who no longer looks fresh and youthful on his arm. Satan is tickled pink as he watches this played out time and time again. People who love money will sell their soul to the devil. The price will last for eternity but they don't care as long as they have lots and lots of money.
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. - 1 Timothy 6:10 NIV
Sex Outside of Marriage
This was never God's plan. God will never bless sex outside of marriage no matter how much you try to rationalize it. God never intended for you to jump from bed to bed before marriage. Satan on the other hand can't wait for you to step into his territory. He wants you to fail. He knows what he has waiting for you on the other end and it's no picnic. He has burned many with shame, that leads to obesity,STDs and emotional and physical abuse. He has convinced many that it's perfectly normal to screw around before one gets married.
Satan even went a step further with the fine art of deception that has been played out for ages. Satan knows that the guy you're with will lie and not tell you he has three STD's, but that's for Satan to know and for you to find out. Satan also knows that a girl will lie to you about taking her birth control so she can nail you with a baby in hopes she'll have that wonderful marriage she's always dreamed of. The hell comes later when you're trapped in an ugly situation that looked so enticing when you first met. Satan is an expert at dressing up some of the ugliest souls with the greatest amount of charm and good looks in order to do his work.
Satan also loves the fact that the divorce rate is so high. Millions of people started their relationships by putting the horse before the cart before marriage because it's normal and acceptable these days. Shame is a thing of the past. It no longer exists for many. He adores the fact that many people say you have to test drive it before you marry it. Since when did the sanctity of life become comparable to a car? Satan knows the majority don't care and he is laughing at you and not with you. A divided family costs this country millions in divorce court and additional homes, etc. and the children involved many times end up ripped apart as pawns by two people warring against one another, instead of loving each other. Satan is so pleased that people have cheapened something that God created to be kept sacred in marriage. Satan doesn't care as long as he can destroy you in the process because he never wants you to find out the truth behind his lie.
For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality - 1 Thessalonians 4:3
"Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled; for fornicators and adulterers God will judge." - Hebrews 13:4
The Watered Down Message
Satan loves the generic Message that some churches are adopting in this day and age so as not to scare off new members. This works for Satan instead of against him, because he knows that you don't really heed God's Word in your heart. He knows you accept Jesus about as much as you accept Santa Claus or the Easter bunny, where you grab some popcorn and enjoy the show. That's it. You don't worry about doing good deeds or bad deeds because God isn't going to judge you. People may misinterpret this watered down Message a step further and think that it's okay to keep on living a life of sin, because God will forgive and love you regardless. It's that easy! As long as Satan knows you're not going to honor, obey and love the Lord for real, he's got you nailed. He will do whatever it takes to twist God's truth in order to win your soul.
And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper. - Romans 1:28
For we live by faith, not by sight. We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad. 2 Corinthians 5:7-10
Angel of Darkness Disguised as Light
When you look at the big picture, Satan on the outside looks beautiful like a Christmas tree, but once you take that tree down, he quickly becomes the tangled mess of Christmas lights you often dread once the holidays are over. Satan is clever and he knows how to win souls by feeding them lies that are filled with promise, but in reality are nothing but heartbreak. He doesn't care as long as he wins in the end. It's just a game to him.
Thankfully, Jesus can help you. He can change your life around for the better. Jesus cares about you and he has a greater purpose for your life and he doesn't want to play games with you. When you follow Jesus, he will give you peace, love and a good wholesome life. Jesus is more powerful than Satan and he doesn't use deception. Visit a local church or invest in a Study Bible and learn about this great man, the son of God. Jesus doesn't want to give you a life of shame. He wants to give you a life of hope and promise and he will never leave your side no matter how many times Satan tempts you. Jesus is the Truth and he will remain that way for all eternity.
For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds. - 2 Corinthians 11:13-15

I was just browsing through the list of articles looking for an article I hadn't read and when I came across yours I nearly passed it by but there was something in the heading that pulled me in and I was absorbed from the very beginning.
Your message here is so well thought out and truthful and I'm sure no-one can deny it. I'm quite sure too, for many this article is very raw, myself included and many might not want to admit it but all of these things can and do attack us spiritually and bring us down. And if we're honest, we can all say we've suffered the same temptations but there is One who was tempted in all things and overcame all of them.
I loved the thought that if He failed in just one point He could never offer Himself as a sinless substitute for all of our sins, which would have negated our salvation.
He knows we will all fail from time to time an if we confess our sins daily He delights in mercy to forgive us. We all sin in some form everyday, whether we admit it or not, hence the reason for daily confession.
Satan knows our weaknesses too and he will never stop looking for an oportunity if you let your guard down he will strike you. And sometimes from previous battles our armour can get damaged and we must be quick to repair the damage - I like to think of Nehemiah - when the wall was broken down he encouraged everyone to rebuild the wall and everyone had a sword in one hand and worked with the other. We have to take pains to repair our wall as well when it gets damaged.
Jesus showed us a way to be an overcomer and in James 4: 7 He tells us to submit yourselves . . . and this is the key to it, submitting to His will - we can never do it in our own strength.
I'm so glad I read your article Melissa and I sincerely hope many more will read it and benefit by it.
My best regards,

That post was so awesome. I had googled a phrase, and this blog post came up as one of the results. I was so intrigued because I had never heard anyone else construct their view so similarly to my own! I kept reading to find where the differences were (because usually there are), but I didn't find any. You were on point and I applaud you. People seem to lose sight of the fact that Satan and his followers are very, very patient. They are very patient and they have had so much time to try and modify different tactics since Adam and Eve - that is a very long time to work on perfecting their strategies. They are VERY good at what they do. Let's not forget that Satan doesn't have to turn people into murderous and overt worshipers of darkness, he just has to get you to doubt the truth. He just needs you to pursue that which is good vs. that which is best. There is a quote that says, "good is the enemy of the best," and I truly believe in that. I say Bravo to you!

Lucifer's favorite weapon is his lies, and his greatest lie which continues to lull many into sinful acts that break God's commandments, is the lie that he doesn't exist. Lucifer does exist and I am persuaded that he knows us better than we know ourselves.
Be careful, and choose to be righteously obedient.

I want to keep a diary of what Satan has served me each day, so that I remain wary of his machinations.
Like this morning, he served me a nice looking girl who was adjusting her skirts, and i had to look back in the rear view mirror
Then he gave dose of porn, which I took once but then refrained after remembering who was behind it all
Then he gave me worries about my job security
I know he will keep trying, but then so will I.
Thanks for the inspiration

Thanks YJ. I appreciate your kindness. I have to be constantly vigilant. There are times the enemy gets on me like a dark shadow of intensity that you know is not from God. All he needs is just one crack to get in. He wants to make you burn for what you do not have whether it be lost love, money, power, etc. As long as he knows your weakness, he will try to destroy you. That is where GOD'S WORD comes in. Meditate on his scripture. See the TRUTH for what it is and DO NOT BE DECIEVED!! Keep fighting for what is right!!
YJ on October 02, 2013:
My goodness, lady, who are you?! This is so well-written even the dense should get the message. After this, I will read gladly read more of your articles. You have a gift, and I am glad you are on God's team.

Good hub and thanks for sharing it with us...thumbs up & useful! Satan or Lucifer has been playing humanity like a cheap banjo for eons...we are our own worst enemy. Half the time all he has to do is leave us alone!
Paul on June 25, 2013:
I had a dream and didn't understand it. Thanks to your hub I now have its interpretation. I know the devil is tricky and is now using the things that people like to deceive them, get them out of their prayer routines and bible reading/meditation to doing evil things. Satan uses Internet, TV, radio, mobile phones, gossip, ... to get God's people off truck. We should resist the devil and he will flee. We will know the truth and it will set us free. Please meditate upon the word of God and pray throughout! Stay blessed. Amen!

Very true Melissa. Pride and lust are the greatest worldly vices and Satan's best tools. I was once deceived. I'm glad I made it home.

It's a key part of The Lord's Prayer, isn't it: "Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, ....... ."

Thanks for these hub. It is true that nowadays, satan really does things to get our soul. he deceive us with earthly riches and such. I think we should be praying more often to avoid temptation.
Demas W Jasper from Today's America and The World Beyond on December 26, 2011:
How did I get to the age I did and had never heard the explanation of our challenges in mortality explained thus: (1) if one-third of those who warred in heaven were cast down to earth to never gain a body and to await their imprisonment at Christ's return, then they are still here; (2) we who are alive right now are a small portion of the remaining two-thirds who will gain a body, live mortal lives, and be judged; (3) that means that those who were cast to earth with Satan are (in numbers) half of all the people who have ever lived and ever will live. We are here with a need to support and encourage each other in surviving everything those evil spirits can do to us, and those include the few but important tactics of theirs which you have mentioned here. Divide and conquer is one I have mentioned elsewhere designed to prevent the unity important to Christendom. Good counsel in your writing, if only people will heed it.
