RUNES - Care, Cleansing, Empowering and Storage

care cleansing empowering storing RUNES

Runes can be powerful allies provided you treat them with the care and respect they deserve. They do need to be ‘cleansed’ and ‘empowered’, particularly when they are new, and may have already been touched by many others. As they are often considered a personal item, runes should be kept with you as much as possible. Alternatively, they can be placed in or on a desk or workspace, or kept near your bed. This gives the runes the opportunity to tune into your personal energy, giving you clearer and more concise readings.

It is important to spiritually cleanse your runes, particularly when they are a new acquisition. This can be done in many different ways, depending upon which feels most natural to you.

They can be laid out under a full moon for the night or placed outside in the early morning sun and left there for a full twenty-four hour cycle.

Another method is ‘smudging’ ~ this entails wafting smoking herbs such as lavender or sage over them, releasing their purifying properties to cleanse the runes.

The runes can be cleansed using naturally flowing water from a well, spring, river, creek or stream.

*Never use tap water.

Once you have cleansed your runes they need to be empowered. Once again, by keeping your runes either with you, or in a private space, you will be empowering your runes with your energy.

Empowering your runes can also be done in a variety of other ways. Again, use a method most comfortable and natural to you.

Runes can be laid out for the midday Sun to bless, being place out in the morning, then retrieved at dusk.

The runes can be empowered by burying them under soil for a week, then retrieving them. The runes can be buried either by themselves, or in a separate bag or container. It is not necessary to bury them singularly.

Another more complicated method requires you to place the runes on a cloth and sprinkle with sea salt to empower the runes with the element of Earth -

then, pass each rune through incense smoke whilst asking the element of Air to empower the runes .

Each rune can then be individually passed through a candle flame to empower the runes with Fire element. For the final step, sprinkle spring or rainwater over the runes to empower them with the element of Water.

Once your Runes are cleansed and empowered, they are imbued with your own unique energy.

As you work with your runes, especially if you do a lot of readings for others, you need to cleanse them regularly. You may also wish to perform an annual ‘re-empowering ceremony’.

The runes, when you work with them regularly, will teach you about the power of nature. By working with the runes and learning to understand your connection with the universe and your place within it, you will have no choice but to grow on all levels.

Nature teaches balance and harmony. It teaches by example and through vibrations and energy. Regular communing with nature and its elements can be enlightening and/or empowering. By spending time with nature and its beauty you will find your true connection.

Wearing runic symbols or bindrunes is another way of empowering yourself. Runes omit powerful vibrations that have a protective effect and will attract the qualities of the chosen rune/s into your life. By wearing a rune or bindrune around your neck, you will subject the whole of your being to the influence of the rune, its symbology, power and meaning.

Runes are best kept in a bag made of a natural fibre such as cotton, hessian or silk etc. They are also quite safe and comfortable in a bag or box. Each set is unique, as is their container. Each bag or box also contains the runes’ pure energy from the point of their creation. It is their ‘home’.

A piece of cloth or fabric can also be used to both wrap the runes in and to lay down as a casting cloth. Keep in mind to be consistent with your choice and preferably use the same piece with each consecutive consultation.

The rune stone article was very informative especially about the cleansing and empowering them. Years ago I did readings for other people. I am a 11/2, 33/6 and 22/4 in numerology

Thank you so much for this article. I am starting with runes and it was nice reading your imput. I have a medium size storage box where I store my tarot cards and runes. Each of the item has its small box or a bag and I found it so lovely and respectful. In the storage box are also crystal stones to look after and cleanse my items which I love. For cleaning I love using full moon overnight or reiki. I also believe any item can be cleanse by visualising it whille holding them. Thank you once again for this lovely article.
