Becoming whole in the Lord!
RELIGION How it HELPS or Impairs Mental Stability
The objective here in this series is to further encourage you to move closer to GOD. Intimacy with God is important, rather than just settle for a religious experience. Did you know that just about anything can become a religion? God does not want us to just adapt to the ever changing ethical and moral system of the world. I want to provoke and sincerely motivate you to desire an up close and personal intimate relationship with the LORD through CHRIST JESUS! The Word of God is absolutely marvelous and contains an endless wealth of spiritual wisdom. It is while developing an ongoing healthy relationship with the Lord you can become spiritually, emotionally and physically whole. God is the only Most High God like or above Him there is no other.
BEHOLD, I am coming soon! My REWARD is with ME, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done. I AM the ALPHA & the OMEGA, the FIRST and the LAST, the BEGINNING and the END…” Revelation 1
I have seen many marvelous things done in the name of religion. Yet, I have also seen many people terribly hurt, some further confused and mentally maimed throughout life, due to the encounters with legalistic or ungodly religious practices. We all should be willing to be corrected by the Word. But quite often many are patronized by those who seek to control them. When religion is erroneously practiced it can impair mental stability. One can come away feeling empty after just having a mere emotional experience. Instead of feeling closer to God they feel more alone. They actually become more confused and enabled. They will often establish a pattern of inconsistency. This should not be! Well meaning people can enable rather than empower.
Developing healthier boundaries
Exercising and implementing healthy boundaries are necessary. It is important to know that there are those who will attempt to use you and or manipulate you. There are also those who seek to dominate and control others as well, not realizing that they simply become a conduit for unfavorable spiritual warfare. This is the opposite of what God wants for us. God wants all of us to become self controlled and learn to become more self disciplined and led by His Holy Spirit. Self control is a Fruit of His Spirit. GOD will NEVER lead anyone to do anything that goes against HIS PRINCIPLES!
It is so important for each of us to seek the Lord above all else. Spiritual growth is the desired result. We then are better equipped and able to see our path forward. This will help you practice true religion and allow Christianity to better become your lifestyle and productively help others as well. As we learned earlier in James, "pure religion is to look after orphans and widows in their distress and keep yourself unspotted from the world." To be a Christian means to accept Jesus Christ as Lord of your life. Not to conform to the ways of the world, but to; Commence to then follow His teachings and apply His principles for life and living within our own lives daily.
Not every one really wants to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord. They at times would rather just make excuses for their shortcomings. This is not a healthy way to help others grow spiritually. This really should not be the case once you have truly accepted the Lord as Savior and Lord. You now have Him to call upon to help you resist sin. It will only further cause inner anxiety, deeper turmoil and stress if you continue to practice sin. It is important that we not justify any wrong behavior in ourselves or anyone else in order to continue to grow spiritually. We must take responsibility for our actions. It is far better to Confess, sincerely Repent, and keep moving forward. "resist the devil and he will flee." This in itself should help you sin less. Truly our Lord is more than able.
Therefore; “Whatever you do, work it in your heart as you are doing it for the LORD!” God wants to be a part of every area of our lives. God has created each one of us with a plan and purpose for our lives! We can accomplish much as we surrender our lives to the Lord. There is nothing more I enjoy in life than a Spirit filled worship service. This is not the same as simply having a emotionally charged worship service. It is a service when the presence of the Lord is evident. Where many are truly encouraged to draw closer to God in their day to day lives. Notice in the Word how God is central in the daily lives of many of His people. We can have an ever increasing healthy, fulfilling spiritual life as we continuously draw closer to the Lord.
Examples when Religion impairs mental stability
Another example when religion impairs mental stability and causes much inner conflict is when someone comes to a Pastor, Priest, Minister, Bishop, Apostle, Prophetess or Prophet, Overseer, Evangelist, Teacher or Leader for HELP or spiritual counseling and then ends up having an affair with them. Or in some cases their advocate instead displays improper behavior, has an improper encounter with a child, teen or an adult, or even has a one night stand with an individual. This is totally unacceptable. Initially the one in need of assistance shares how they are feeling in order to find direction but instead the problem is now compounded because their spiritual advisor is now also a part of their problem. They have crossed ethical and or moral boundaries and caused additional stress in the life of the individual or family....
A seducing spirit is in operation. Quite often when you confront this ethically they will attempt to discredit you. This is unfortunate because they really can't see the stronghold. This is actually an emotional as well as physical abuse of power. Much too much of this continues to happen and has been in the Local and International News on a continuum. If you are in such a situation just STOP!!! Apologize, Repent and get help for yourself immediately. This is ungodly and quite improper!
A Christian leader is "called" to be a Servant of the Lord. A Christian leader is "called" to preach, teach, proclaim, minister to God’s people and encourage others to use and implement godly principles within their lives. You must pray for discernment. You must allow the Lord to show you when and when not to help. A leader is not called to control the lives of others. We are not to take God's place. We are to encourage and abet autonomy and make known the Power of the Lord to HELP 24/7! Nor should you impose your will...
It is important to always remember the Church belongs to GOD! You are supposed to be an instrument of the LORD... To bring GLORY to HIS NAME! Those same godly principles are to be implemented within our own personal lives as well. God’s Word can and will help you discover viable solutions and options to facilitate correcting, emotional, behavioral and relational issues. For also consoling those who are grieving thus helping to relieve anxiety. It is not necessary to impose yourself upon others. You will not always be understood or accepted.
There are those who place others in positions of authority simply because they can control them. This gives them a sense of power. They will often carry out the tasks they are given without hesitation. They desire to please whomever is in authority. They simply follow without question. They will allow them to sometimes even make unreasonable demands upon them to the degree they neglect there personal family relationships. It is interesting to see what happens when they do not do as they are told. What happens when there is no one to direct them? They will follow whom ever without really drawing closer to the Lord.
Moses was a Great Leader
Although Moses was a great leader look at what happened to the children of Israel after they left Egypt while in the desert. They wandered around for forty years. It took that long for the Lord to allow some of there slave mentality of being in Egypt to diminish. Many of them complained and wanted to return back to the life they had in Egypt. Unlike what we as believers have now been bestowed upon us; at this time, they did not have the marvelous privilege of the indwelling presence of God's Holy Spirit. Oh my, no wonder they even frustrated Moses. Yet, still God was always right there to lead them. The point is God wants us to be internally guided by His Holy Spirit. Christ Jesus came to show us a better way...
Everywhere we are we need to be cognizant of the Lord!. The spiritual warfare has heightened. Let this encourage you to daily draw closer to the Lord. You can become that much more secure in the Lord. Each day really is a precious gift from Him to grow in His grace, wisdom, knowledge and understanding. "SEEK YE FIRST the KINGDOM of GOD and HIS RIGHTOUSNESS!" Matthew 6.
Through the Power of HIS Holy Spirit we can become a spiritual conduit when we yield ourselves to the LORD... GOD'S WORD is full of ENCOURAGEMENT! God does not sanction any improper behavior in anyone. He has given us His Holy Spirit who is the internal Spiritual Counselor to help us. Ultimately healing comes from God! God’s Word can also help you learn healthier spiritual boundaries. God calls and equips His ministers/priests as instruments to help facilitate and participate in the emotional and spiritual healing process. We are also supposed to encourage and implement godly principles ourselves. We can continuously grow stronger in the LORD as we practice what we preach... A minister/priest is NOT to have an improper relationship with someone that has come to them for help… This does not have to be. This also undermines others ability to have confidence in the LORD and HIS WORD. "GOD IS ABLE to KEEP you from falling..."
If you are a leader in an improper relationship I pray that this is a wakeup call! God really does have a better way. Begin to spend one on one time with the Lord. He did not intend for the ways of the world to dominate nor override His people or negate His principles within His Church. He knew when He created each of us that we are different and would differ in our behaviors and opinions. Think for a moment? How many indiscretions do you actually read about in the lives of the disciples? How many affairs did the disciples have? This is why we ALL NEED JESUS CHRIST as SAVIOR & LORD! GOD has given each of us a Free Will to choose… As we grow spiritually we can become more self disciplined and make better choices! You can "BE STRONG IN the LORD!" It is through a mutual belief in Jesus Christ we can also be on one accord. GOD'S WORD is precious and necessary ESSENTIAL SPIRITUAL FOOD for our souls. “Jesus Christ is the Way the TRUTH and the Life!” HE is the only way to the FATHER! This is why He has provided us with His Word and His Holy Spirit to direct us how to live!
The early Church met in homes as well as outdoors. They were cognizant that being a Christian/Believer was a daily lifestyle. Jesus nor His disciples built places of worship. Did you know that it was somewhere approximately in 300 A. D. when an actual brick and mortar building for God’s people to come together and worship together was actually erected? It was King Solomon who built the first Temple for the Lord. And it it was quite elegant and magnificent. It is important to keep in mind that we the people are the Church not the building itself! GOD does not live in a building made by man. Know that it is our body that is the Temple where God resides...There is nothing wrong with worshipping in a large, small or mega Church building as long as the Word of God is being taught and the preaching is centered upon the WORD of GOD! However it is still very important to spend time in the Word of God yourself and allow HIM to write His Laws within your heart. Listen to what the Word of God teaches us”
“My son (daughter) do not forget the teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity.
Let Love and Faithfulness never leave you; bind them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win Favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.
TRUST in The LORD wilth ALL your heart and lean not to your own understanding; in ALL your ways ACKNOWLEDGE HIM, and HE WILL make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3.
God does not want us to be ignorant of His ways. We should desire to live to please the Lord as believers. We must consistently and properly apply the principles of God’s Word to our own daily lives. The Bible records time after time what happens when God’s people turned away from His principles and walk in disobedience. There are consequences for our choices... We should be willing to be corrected by God’s Word and wise spiritual counsel. Whenever and wherever HIS “Church” gathers everywhere throughout the world, we should do so in order to worship the Lord, fellowship and invite unbelievers to become a part of the family of God. We should then leave invigorated, refreshed, inspired, renewed and ready to serve the Lord and rise to the occasion to meet the challenges of everyday life! However, often right after worship there is sometimes very little discernible presence of the Holy Spirit! What happens? Many leave Jesus in the building and go home to a totally different life!
Always keep in min. "It is wiritten: "God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that He is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; Neither is He worshipped with men's/women's hands, as though He needed any thing, seeing He giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;
And hath made of one blood all nations of men/women for to dwell on the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of ther habitation.
THAT THEY SHOULD SEEK, THE LORD, IF HAPLY THEY MGHT FEEL AFTER HIM, AD FIND HIM, THOUGH HE BE NOT FAR FROM ANY OF US...." ACTS 17
PLEASE TAKE SOME TIME TO PONDER AND MEDITATE ON THIS WONDERFUL PASSAGE OF SCRIPTURE! LET IT MARINATE IN YOUR SOUL AND REFER TO IT OFTEN.
Josh McDowell in his book, “His Image” states; “Christians is to live a life that manifests Christ’s characteristics...."
I pray that you have been inspired and encouraged to want to know more about ALMIGHTY GOD for HE IS THE SOVEREIGN CREATOR, MAKER and SUSTAINER OF LIFE. "DRAW NIGH TO GOD AND HE WILL DRAW NIGH TO YOU."
~ Through the POWER of GOD'S HOLY SPIRIT a sincere SPIRIT FILLED relationship with the LORD is attainable. It is through this marvelous relationship we acquire the mental ability necessary to potentially become all GOD has created us to be. It provides the foundational basis in which we can unravel our lives and expose it to the Light and move towards healing. It is within the context of Christianity we can live healthy stable lives as we allow Jesus Christ to become Lord of our lives. The Lord wants to FREE you from whatever hinders you to draw closer to Him! There is nothing anywhere in this entire world, the universe or in Heaven that the Lord is not aware of! GOD TRULY IS AWESOME. He wants us to humble ourselves, repent, submit and draw closer to Him. You can do this wherever you are. Our goal should be to develop an ongoing healthy spiritual ever growing relationship with the Lord that helps us to live, productive, spiritually enriched, happier and contented fulfilling lives. And to keep yourself unspotted from this world... GOD CAN and WILL make a marvelous difference in your life. HE CAN MAKE YOU WHOLE! TRULY; “GOD IS MORE THAN ABLE!” ~

Terrydfree, I am glad that this is helpful! Be ENCOURAGED the LORD knows right where you are! I believe in “Biblical Doctrine” from the standpoint that the WORD of GOD is infallible, authoritive and correct! The HOLY SPIRIT is the inner Spiritual Guide that works along with us when we “RIGHTLY divide the WORD of GOD!” I don’t think that we have to necessarily be dogmatic in or approach because the Bible stands on it own MERIT! We just have to be sure of what we believe and teach it from the heart! The “GRACE of GOD” is sufficient. When we present the WORD we must TRUST GOD, it is HE that can open the understanding and bring about TRANSFORMATION…. I Pray that I have answered your question!
Thank you for stopping by to share and please do come again, In HIS Love, Grace, Mercy, Joy, Peace & Blessings!

You read my mind in this hub. I have to agree with in everything that was said here today. But i do poise a question for you. How do you feel about teaching biblical doctrine vs reading solely on God's grace?
Dianna Mendez on June 28, 2012:
Your words, 'There are consequences for our choices... We should be willing to be corrected by God’s Word and wise spiritual counsel" are what hit me the most. I think people want God's guidance but do not understand his methods in correcting us. A wonderful article on faith.
Robert E Smith from Rochester, New York on June 27, 2012:
I absolutely loved this article! God wants to savc us from the sin that is going to send us to hell. But He also wants to save us from the sins that so easily beset us. He gives so much for us to walk with Him and in this country most Christians are barely discernable from non-Christians. Most walk with their feelings and with the crowd and are still working on their "baby Christian" issues unable to digest the meat of the word. God wants us to continually grow with Him. He says take My hand and I will guide your path. But so many make religion a check list and never hear the quiet voice of the Lord in their ear. It takes some time to be serious with God. We take time on our jobs because money is serious. We take time with food because eating is serious. We take time with sleep because sleep is serious. But God has to shake us to get our attention so many times. Thank you for this wonderful hub. I pray people read it and take it to heart. I love you sister. Bob
