Worshipping GOD in "SPIRIT and in TRUTH"

President Jimmy Carter & Women in Ministry

Please do PRAY for President Jimmy Carter. May our Lord continue to keep him and Mrs.Carter. For he is a dedicated strong, principled Man of GOD!

This is an article I wrote many years ago...

I am once again happy to see that President Jimmy Carter the 39th President of the United States is in the news. But not for his political views. At least not concerning the U.S. Government. But his views as far as the Church are concerned. President Carter is a strong, gentle but well spoken wholesome man. He was also a brilliant nuclear engineer. He inherited a peanut farm which he laboriously managed and attended. Not at all a novice to politics, for he also was the former governor of Georgia. He has been a member of the Southern Baptist for many decades. He was a dutiful Sunday School teacher. After (60) sixty years he has taken an adamant, publicly visible stand and decided to part company. He does not subscribe to many of their doctrinal beliefs.

President Carter and the Southern Baptist Church

There is a belief among the leadership of the Southern Baptist clergy that women are to be restricted and forbidden to be ordained. They in fact believe that our position as women is to basically appease our husbands, be subservient and attend to the non leadership issues that arise as a subordinate. I have always found this interesting. We have in the past regularly attended their services. But have always been concerned with this very issue. As women you can participate in the “Women’s Ministry” teach Sunday School, work with the youth, usher, talk about the Lord, but you cannot become an ordained minister.

I find this so very interesting because this does not only exist in the Southern Baptist it existed among the Traditional Baptist as well where we attended for many years. Really this changes throughout the plethora of denominations as well as non denominations. Now, it has changed among Baptist somewhat in some places. But there is a definite discrimination that takes place I know this firsthand. To keep women in their place or else you can be a Minister at home? However, within the Methodist Church women were given much more freedom to be a Minister. Here from the General Board of Education I even received a Certification in Religion at the age of (12) twelve.

Is it not God that calls us or anyone for that matter to ministry! I thought we committed to be Ministers always... In fact it is a lifestyle. "GOD is not a respecter of persons!” The Word says “HE will pour out HIS SPIRIT on ALL flesh.” Male or female. Did not the Lord use a donkey to speak to Balaam his prophet who was overcome by his love for the world and money? Balaam according to the Word taught Balak “to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols and commit sexual immorality…” ( See Revelations 2) Shame on him. Balaam also allowed himself to be used by baal and caused 24,000 to be killed.

The point is; The Lord can use whomever He pleases as He pleases. Certainly if the Lord used a donkey to warn his prophet of his sudden death to come if he continued to proceed; He can use women as He pleases. By the way it was the women who went first to proclaim The Gospel and tell the other disciples that Christ Jesus had risen! It was women who were at His feet while on the cross. I could go on but my point is God never intended for the Church to just be housed in a building of brick and mortar and the Gospel to only be preached and proclaimed by men... The building is a dedicated place to come and gather for whosoever will, to assemble for the purpose of worshipping God. Your home should also be a place of worship. By the way Christ Jesus nor his disciples built places of worship.

Heaven is God's Throne and the earth is God's footstool. Truly the Lord has given us much freedom. Know God’s Church is the Universal Church of believers who are people all throughout the world from every tongue, color, culture and nation. Praise be to God we have worshipped in some of the most exqusite small, large and mega places of worship worldwide.

President Carter speaks; "The AGE"

I can testify first hand to the underhanded discrimination and outright mistreatment of women within the Church that President Jimmy Carter is standing “UP” for! I do not indulge in the world politics. But I am well aware of the politics within the church. If you choose to participate in some cases you must subject yourself to the whims of the “man in charge!” Some who makes it clear that it is his call and vision you serve? There is always an exception to the rule. God is not a respector of persons. HIS vision for HIS CHURCH is that we contend for the FAITH. That we preach, teach, share, proclaim and daily live out HIS WORD and that it goes forth into all the world. Then our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus will return.

I have personally found it to be true in some cases what President Carter stated in his essay; Read and listen attentively.

The AGE”

“As its most repugnant, the belief that women must be subjugated to the wishes of men excuses slavery, violence, forced prostitution, genital mutilation and national laws that omit rape as a crime. But it also costs many millions of girls and women control over their own bodies and lives, and continues to deny them fair access to education, health, employment and influence within their own communities...”

And, later said

“The truth is that male religious leaders have had -- and still have -- an option to interpret holy teachings either to exalt or subjugate women. They have, for their own selfish ends, overwhelmingly chosen the latter. Their continuing choice provides the foundation or justification for much of the pervasive persecution and abuse of women throughout the world. “

My Experience

When I graduated Seminary there were no women being ordained in ministry within our congregation. (I also graduated with honors) You could teach Sunday School, be the Church Administrator, Teach Bible Study, be a Missionary, Trustee, Youth Leader, or sing in the choir, or become a Deaconess? By the way I have served in all these capacities within the Church accept being a Trustee or Deaconess.

There was only one ordained woman of Color female Minister in the whole entire city that I knew of. She had at one time been the choir director but was not allowed to sit in the pulpit were we worshipped whenever she returned to visit.

We all have different testimonies. We do not have to ever compromise God's Principles to be a part of His Church!

It has changed to some degree. But yet some of the same chauvinistic issues are still there in the background. It is not out in view most of the time for all to see. I was simply blacklisted, overlooked and labeled. Hmm like maybe jealous, accused of just wanting to be... as well as unyielding, selfish, unteachable, and... Which is so far from the Truth! I have always been serious about the "CALL" upon my life. Little did they know or realize that I was learning and studying daily in the Word. As well as Bible History, Human Behavioral Studies, Marriage & Relationships, Pastoral Counseling and... Sometimes you have to simply smile & "grin and bear it" Think about it; quite interesting yet I could still serve in all these various positions. I have learned much and have no problem humbling myself in helping others. What is there to be jealous of? We both knew better. I am also thankful for all my Great Mentors who knew better.

I was aware it was simply to attempt to undermine my confidence and put me in my so called place as a woman. My goal is always to continually improve as the woman the Lord has made me and to serve Him as He sees fit. I am thankful that I was raised amongst many brothers. My parents raised me to be strong; yet be a lady. Therefore I respect that we as men and women are different, yet equal in the eyes of God. It is so very important to know God's Word for yourself.

I do not respond to manipulation nor do I try to manipulate others. I am aware that God truly is omnipresent and any foolishness of the sort hinders our personal relationship with Him. I fear God not man/woman. I also know that many do not want you to speak about the things that go on. This is not to gossip but bring it to the Light. I have no battle with anyone just merely sharing what I know to be so. I do know that all throughout His Word our Lord addresses the things that hinder His Church from going forth and the consequences... I knew firsthand and understood the term; "Gaslighting" I have been in and a part of the Lord's Church for over (60) years this is why I can relate to the "STAND" President Jimmy Carter's has taken.

GOD will fight your battles. I am not at all bitter for I always remember from where the Lord has brought us from... To the Lord I am forever grateful. We together truly have been blessed to be able to responsibly "GO ye therefore into the world..." We have always been on one accord in regards to our commitment to serve the Lord. I have no problem serving and or serving with my husband. We have mutual respect for one another. I can also work along with just about anyone. But I only bow to the Lord! CHRIST JESUS IS OUR BEST WITNESS. PRAISE GOD for HIS MARVELOUS OMNIPRESENCE. "For YOU SHALL KNOW the TRUTH & the TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE!"

When you truly have the Lord you realize the battle is not yours. No need to fight for where to sit. What to say or not say. When to preach or who will support you or not support you. Many confuse meekness with weakness. Please do always be aware of what is going on around you whenever or wherever you worship as well as when out and about in the world. Know that there are some very rude and disrepectful people in and amongst the congregations. Therefore please do pray before and during worship. God always knows the position of our hearts. For when you go forth in the Lord you have access to everything you need. God always makes a way for His Will to be done. It is only God's approval that we need.

I thank and praise GOD for discernment!

A fellow very strong respectful pastor I had worked with ministering to the saved and lost invited me to Minister to his Congregation. Despite much of the drama we have experienced the Lord has given us encouragement and those who were in favor down the years... It has never been our objective to compete or vie for positions. I have seen too many congregations split over power struggles... Many years ago when I officially preached my first Sermon it was actually on a First Sunday. My text was taken from the Book of Judges and (7) seven people came to accept the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord. I also assisted administering Holy Communion.

We daily live a life of worship! To those of you who want to rise within the realm of the traditions. GO for it. But always be led by the HOLY SPIRIT of GOD!

To some degree a few of my supposed “sisters?” in the Lord were used to help attempt to oppress me and make sure I was limited by their standards. I was not envious of their position but quite observant. Since I did not readily bow to the authority to the “man in charge.” They went so far to observe and record my not responding to their many set ups. They were actually used as examples to show me what was possible if I went along with the head? I had no need to be a part of the clique`. They could do as they pleased because they would do whatever it took even if it included… Yet they talked about the situation themselves. I contently just proceeded to worship the Lord. "Halllelllujah Anyhow!" Of course I could participate in the “Women’s Ministry.” And yes many would seek me for counseling still. They would call me for prayer. I could speak or proclaim from time to time; "The Spoken Word" from the side.

But there was a definite unspoken "no" to attempt to at times limit me to 'their ministry doctrines.' So I calmly protested No Thank You silently. No "Coward Soldier" here. No need to be rude. Instead I opted to support my own husband within the ministry and just made a point to commit to Worship and Praise the Lord in “Spirit and in Truth.” My husband was no doubt to a minute degree occasionally also penalized because of my position. Which he paid no mind at all. (Although we both were called to Ministry.) My husband has always been very supportive in me fulling the "CALL" upon my life in ministry. I have also always supported him as well. However, as my Pastor I/we still enjoyed using the many different resources to share, teach, preach and proclaim the Word. We daily experience the impartation of the Fruit of the Spirit as God allows, as well as continually growing in HIS grace, wisdom, knowledge & understanding. I can boldly say I have acquired much patience, spiritual strength and have great peace knowing that the Lord knows my/our sincere intentions as well as the TRUTH! I am thankful to have been raised by a strong committed woman of God who fervently served the Lord in many capacities. Even moreso thankful to be married to a dedicated "Strong Man of GOD!

After I graduated seminary I was also ordained by the University’s Chancellor who confirmed my call. Who wanted me to still be his assistant... Well, the Lord freed us. He gave us "ALPHA 7 MINISTRIES." Here we could; " Go ye therefore" in the Name of the Lord! For we are "CALLED" as the Lord's Elders/ Ministers and Ambassadors. (We would still honor GOD and worship within whatever denomination, non denomination or independent ministry we attended or participated in.) "Whatever you do do it as unto the LORD!" Therefore my husband, I and our family also continued to attend and support wherever we worshipped. (Our now adult children are free to worship wherever they please...) They too have labored with us in the Lord's Vineyard. Christianity is our daily lifestyle. We faithfully and eventually founded and were led to daily embrace the concept of “MINISTRY BEYOND & INSIDE THE WALLS!

YES LORD! It is so true “Where the SPIRIT of the LORD is there is LIBERTY.” ABBA HOLY FATHER, THANK YOU for the freedom & protection you have given us; " FOR IT IS IN HIM WE LIVE AND MOVE AND HAVE OUR BEING." Acts 17 I am thankful to say together we climbed and worshipped here on "Mars Hill" in Athens Greece where this very Scripture was spoken from.

I say this because I know first hand. I/We have lived it! We realize that we are forever becoming in the LORD. But in THE LORD we are to strive and thrive daily for increased "Perfection." Meaning being complete in GOD! (7) Seven is the number of completion. We have always taken very seriously our vows as well as the Blessings that were spoken over us.

No need to or desire to compete with anyone. Especially with those who are territorial and entrenched in their doctrines moreso than the Word of God. We know everything we will ever need for life, daily living and eternal life we can discover in the Lord.

Through it all my fervor, steadfastness, personal and public love for the Lord and devotion has grown tremendously! Their attempted oppressiveness worked in my/our favor. It just showed me where I did not want to be on a continuum... I always keep in mind that the Church belongs to GOD. I/we even supported those who wanted to participate in the “Center Stage ” of it all. (That is another story in itself) I also realize that once we ALL have completed this course of life we will have to give an account to the Lord for our actions.

I Applaud President Jimmy Carter

Therefore I applaud President Jimmy Carter for taking such a noble a stand. He did not allow nor let the doctrines of man to hinder His stance upon the WORD! As a woman I hold ALL of the Lord’s Word to heart. Inside and outside the walls. I can say that I love being “His child” and an Elder/Minister Ambassador of HIS GOSPEL! But do not stand for foolishness. No need to sit in a high chair. I can sit front, center side or back. No need to be seen for I know GOD sees everything. It is His perspective that matters most. For the LORD always knows the posture of our hearts. I Peter says;

“… For you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the WORD, they without a word, may be won over by the conduct of the wives, when they Observe your chaste conduct accompanied by fear…”

I love this scripture because I know who my Shepherd is. “The LORD IS My SHEPHERD!” Therefore I say; " I SHALL NOT WANT ANOTHER!" For He has always looked out for my/our well-being. We rise dily to spend time in His presence. I have no problem with authority. I have no problem with submitting when it does not go against the Lord ‘s Word as well as obeying the laws of the land. I thank GOD that my husband is my Pastor. I have no problem standing on GOD'S WORD! If you read the passage of scripture in I PETER slowly again it says to be subject to your own husband not everyone else’s! You and your spouse are one in the eyes of GOD. Think about that for a moment. When Peter refers to us as the “weaker” vessel this is not at all to infer that we are weaker Spiritually. Ephesians assures us “We can be Strong in the Lord and the Power of HIS might...”

The Bible speaks of the women as the “weaker” vessel because we are built differently and naturally tend to be more emotional. No hysterics here.. (I am thankful to have a good spiritual GOD given grip on my emotions as well as a sound strong mind.) Thank You Lord Jesus! If you listen closely you will see that this is a position of STRENGTH as we embrace self control we are able to do this through yielding to His Holy Spirit/His Comforter! Thankful that we are on one accord and are equally yoked.

When a husband or wife does not obey the Lord you can win him/her over… Without even speaking if need be. It is for the "Saved" spouse to hold up and onto God's principles as a mirror. The husband prayers are hindered when he mistreats his wife… This true of the wife as well... Read this passage slowly and prayerfully. This is Powerful! By the way this does not mean ever using manipulation in any way. I have no greater respect for any man on earth than my own husband. God truly is awesome.

We live in a nation and a world that is constantly shifting away from God’s principles and many within God’s Church have enlisted and embraced worldly ways, concepts and methods to control and dominate God’s people! Concepts and ways to make many comfortable have greatly impacted worship. It is quite true; There are "Wolves in Sheep Clothing!" Lord Help Us!

Therefore I again applaud President Jimmy Carter because he has brought an issue to the Light that many skirt or avoid. Lord Bless him for standing "UP!" The question for Carter -- and for others who find themselves at odds with leadership -- is, when a group you're deeply involved in starts to move away from your own core beliefs, do you show a contrast, do you stay and try to foster spiritual growth and change from within or, at some point, do you have to look for the exit? Or DO you give them over to the Lord and "shake the dust from your feet?"

This is the question that each individual must deal with. It may be considered by some spiritual suicide to go against the ideology of organized religion. But when you really think about it this is how and why we have so many denominations, non denominations and many places of worship. CHRIST JESUS HIMSELF was crucified for this very thing. SO keep in mind we are in good company. "IF GOD BE FOR US WHO CAN BE AGAINST US..." Continuing to build more and more buildings is not the answer... But it is your choice? Christ Jesus himself stood against the religious leaders and their traditions and customs. Some things will just not be understood on this side of HEAVEN!

Peacefully, protesting by sitting down or moving away from oppression can help you move closer to a growing rewarding rich inner satisfying strong relationship with the Lord. It frees you to live each and everyday for the Lord! Never let anyone make you act out of character no matter who they are. Especially when you know that Christ is not coming back for a church made by hands. God has given us many ways and resoures to continue to preach, teach, proclaim and "Live out Loud!" the Gospel. And yes, He is coming back for HIS CHURCH that remains which is; HIS PEOPLE! CHRIST JESUS IS THE HEAD OF GOD'S CHURCH! THIS HAS BEEN TUE FROM THE BEGINNING. To the Lord we are all accountable to Him for what we do or do not do. Because according to the Lord’s Word there is still and always will be; “ONE LORD, ONE FAITH, ONE BAPTISM," AND ONE CHURCH which by the way belongs to HIM! Therefore, live everyday; To GOD Be The GLORY!

I agree! God is not a respector of person. It is through the Spirit of God within us that allows us to be used to minister, teach and preach to His people as well as to the lost. When doing so sincerely we edify the Body of Christ and bring honor and GLORY to HIS name! It is only by the name of JESUS one can be saved!

We never become the power. We gain access as we submit to Him and walk in obedience. This way we are then armed with the necessary tools to minister to those the Lord allows across our path. The Lord puts the members in the Body as it pleases Him!

We would be so much farther along winning souls for Christ if we truly followed after the example of Christ where the women and men ministered together and prayed together.

I realize and am thankful that the Lord has a place for me and He is the One who called me because "The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof. The world and them that dwell therein." It is far better to obey God rather than man! I am so grateful to have the right to share the GOODNESS of God and HIS wonderful plan of SALVATION we have through His Son Jesus Christ!

Preach on! I am touched that you are motivated to do so by reading this hub! Praise God!

Thank you for visiting

Dr. Oscar A. Williams, Jr. from PA on September 01, 2009:

Male pastors are not the only ones gifted to work in the local church. Ordination is not required as a prerequesite for ministry as if it is something to be grasp after. God has ordained every Christian to the ministry. No such thing as laymen and clergy. Every Christian is a priest and minister before God. You feeling me here? Every Christian male and female, God has no respector of persons. We are given the responsibility and privilege first to worship him and to serve him according to the gift he has given us. So go ahead ladies, preach, teach counsel, exhort, what ever your gift find to do because they will accomplish what God gave them to you for. No Jimmy Carter, male oriented pastors etc. Shall stand in your way. Oh I feel like turning a text. LOL
