Prayers: Small Droplets One of His Requirements

Prayers: Small Droplets One of His Requirements

The key words (topics) in the bible and in Christianity include hope, doubt, faith (believe), salvation, prayer, fasting, holiness, and others not stated here. These words are key words because there is no way you will read the scriptures that you will not come across them in the entire bible and in God’s dealings with man.

Out of these I will briefly be writing on prayer here, relating it with little droplets of water to show us, believers in Jesus Christ, how grave this topic is to us and to our relationship with God, father-children relationship.

Sometimes if not all the times many people thought what God expects of us is a lengthy form of prayer and in this many have erred, while some have been misled such that they do not wish to be involved in the art, act and attitude of praying to God again. However, to ensure that they keep in tune with their deity or Yahweh, such people would be found seeking for intermediaries to talk to their father, Yahweh, God of Israel in doing something for them. This has caused a lot of havoc to many people, making them to be at the mercy of those people. It is because of this belief, thought and teachings that makes some people think well, “prayer is hard, difficult, strenuous and I do not want to be part of it, but, if you can help me out I would be glad”, they would say to some people or religious leaders.

In this short discuss on this topic, prayer, I want to show us, believers, that God has incorporated everyone into the scheme of things, merged all into his plan of talking to him as good parents would not create a barrier between them and one of the children, so has God not created a lacuna, a barrier between him and all of his children in the world. He knows we are human, and that we are not equal just as fingers are not equal, thus he makes provisions for you, for all, so that we shall be able to talk to him bit by bit, as a form of small droplets until it becomes big, like a river that all could take water from thereby.

Some Definitions

Google defines prayer as a solemn request for help or expression of thanks addressed to God or another deity. It has also been found that when some people are requesting something from another person (person of authority or even lower in rank to the person but who has what the person wants in his or hand) the request that such a person puts across to the person is called prayer.

Some Hebrew words translated as prayer in the bible are “תּפלּה”, tephillâh, (pronounced as tef-il-law'); “פּלל”, pâlal, (phonetical spelling is paw-lal'); “שׂיחה”, śı̂ychâh (pronunciation see-khaw') and “עתר”, ‛âthar, (pronunciation aw-thar') which mean intercession, intreat, supplication, singing hymn, meditation.

While some of the Greek words use for prayer are “προσεύχομαι”, proseuchomai, (phonetical spelling is pros-yoo'-khom-ahee); “δέησις”, deēsis, (pronounced as deh'-ay-sis) and “enteuxis, “ἔντευξις”, (phonetic spelling is ent'-yook-sis) these words imply supplication, petition, request, worship.

Droplet however is defined as a small drop of liquid and requirement is defined as a thing that is needed or wanted; or a necessary condition.

These Show He Incorporates All

What God places emphasis on is his children communing (or talking) with him regularly as parents desire and love their children to talk with them often. The followings will help us to see what I am saying more.

1. Created Us To Depend on Him: we shall recall that God after creating man gives him some freedom, freedom to christen the things he has created in the world. He does that because if he christened everything, we may have difficulties remembering their names afterwards. To buttress home this, think about this, people in this part of the world find it hard remembering some people’s names while studying them in the school and I know this is also true of people in other countries of the world for they will also be finding it hard remembering some of the names of the people from this part of the world because it is strange to them.

To remove something like that, therefore, God gave man the autonomy to name those things for easy remembrance.

However, to show that man is not completely free, he told them that there are trees in the midst of the garden of Eden which he does not expect them to touch.

“And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

“And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

“And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

“But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” (Gen 2: 9, 15-17)

Someone who is free, independent would have access to all in his custody, without looking over his shoulders. But with this God was telling them, first man and woman, that they were not wholly free. He was telling them they are still depending on him.

This continued even after men fell from the garden for we still have courses to return to God, to talk to him and this was clearly demonstrated by Cain and Abel in their first forms of prayers as documented in Genesis 4.

2. Prayer A Major Means: A major means of talking with God after the fall of man from the garden of Eden is prayer and this is verily demonstrated by Cain and Abel and we know that subsequent people who mattered afterwards during their days on earth also talk with God.

“And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the LORD.”(Gen 4:26)

Now, the name given unto all which we are expected to be calling upon while addressing God is Jesus Christ.

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

“And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

“If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.” (Joh 14:12-14)

God has promised to answer us when we call on the name of his son to address him, having known this we should not shy away from calling the name today as his children.

3. Makes Provision For All: As our creator he knows we are flesh and that he creates us differently thus he makes provisions for all of us to come to him in prayers.

“For he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.” (Psa 78:39)

As we know children differ, even identical twins’ studies have shown that they are not completely the same in all things. Therefore, God knows that some would be able to talk more (eloquent) while some would be quiet (or introvert according to personality types).

“And Moses said unto the LORD, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.

“And the LORD said unto him, who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD?” (Exo 4:10-11)

This God also takes into consideration and he clearly expresses that to Prophet Moses when he was charging him to go and deliver his children from the land of Egypt. We therefore should always remember that God incorporates all into his agenda as parents do not despise any of their wards.

4. Lengthy Prayer Good But Not Demanded: it is good to pray long prayers if one can do that, but God does not command it, and most especially when the person offering the prayer is doing so as a show off, such act pisses God off and this Jesus says unto his disciples that they need to be careful of such position. We shall see that Jesus frowns at the attitude and says

“Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.” (Mat 23:14)

The word woe here in Greek is “οὐαί”, which it’s Romanized form is ouai (pronounced as oo-ah'ee) and it means alas, it is an expression of grief. God through Jesus is telling the disciples and all that he feels bad, he feels pain in his heart when he sees people praying for show off. This is the position some of the ministers of the gospel has put some to these3 days that have frightened away some gullible children of God which make them to be looking for mediators before they can talk to their father, God.

5. Consistency Emphasized: All through the bible, and most especially in the new testament where prayer has been expressed and taught openly by Jesus to his disciples and what his disciples too have shared with the brethren who got saved through them and by extension the whole believers in Jesus Christ, we shall see that the emphasis is not on lengthy prayers as some people use to say or teach or preach but the emphasis is on consistency.

“And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint.” (Luk 18:1)

The word always here in Greek is “πάντοτε”, Romanized form is pantote (pronunciation form is pan'-tot-eh) and it means at all times. Jesus was telling all a proverb of the importance, of how God our father values talking to him always in this proverb.

Apostles also reiterated what Jesus said here when they said in their epistles to believers that

“Pray without ceasing.” (1 Th 5:17)

“Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;(Rom 12:12)

“But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer” (1 Pet 4:7)

The emphasis is on individual child of God to continue to talk to their heavenly father as they would talk to their earthly father without the use of intermediaries, without minding their eloquence.

6. Small Droplets: when one consistently talks to anyone, the person would have developed good rapport with the person such that the person could predict the behavior of his partner, predicts the time of communication with him. Recently I have a female friend from Russia federation, because of the distance and because of the time difference I could predict the time the lady does sends messages to my email. This is because within the short time we have been communicating I have studied to know the time she uses to send me messages.

Now, if I can guess right the time the lady sends messages to me from her country how much more those of us who see each other daily and much so God if we can develop rapport with him, he would by this be able to say things about us as he did say about Job to Satan.

“Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.

“And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, from going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

“And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?” (Job 1:6-8)

It was because patriarch Enoch was consistent in his interactions with the Lord that was why he could be translated.

“And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.” (Gen 5:24)

“By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.” (Heb 11:5)

Fire brigade approach does not help any relationship. We have been hearing of divorce here and there today in Christianity part of the reason for this according to the little studies conducted here among the brethren is that many of them got married after a fire brigade approached relationship. And after their marriage they would start discovering many things about each other which would result in divorce.

This, God does not want as such he has made room for consistency in our relationship with him and one of the sure means of achieving this is through steady communication with him in prayers.

7. Some Rivers Sources Are Droplet Like: From documentations of the researches made by geographers, geologists and others it has been discovered that some big rivers in the world their sources are droplet like in fashion, but because the source is consistent in its production and never runs dry at any form of the year it later turns to big river at distant places.

In the same way is a person who talks to his heavenly father consistently, though the person’s form of prayer maybe droplet in nature, but because the person is consistent in talking to his father, this would turn to a river-like before people in the future and from his small droplet like prayer pattern people could be blessed as people are being blessed by fetching from the river at a distant place from the source, some rivers would even be turned to dams where drinking water would be pumped to different home, soothing and comforting people.

A biblical example that readily comes to mind here is the prayer pattern of prophet Daniel in the land of Babylon. This man’s prayer pattern was consistent such that all could decipher it, and via it God could bring unto him revelations of what would come in the future, what would happen to his brethren, the chi8ldren of Israel, and by extension what he has in mind for the world.

Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.” (Dan 6:10)

Note the closing word in this verse, “aforetime”, as he was doing before he continues to do, he continues to pray and talk to his God. This word talks of his consistency in prayer, is not the kind of person who talks to God when he is in problem, he is not a conditional prayer person, he is not a person whose relationship with God is a fire brigade one like many in the world are today.

Have you been put off by the kinds of teachings or preaching you have been receiving on prayer such that you do not want to pray again? Have you been looking down on yourself and considering some people as giants in prayer and that you cannot meet with them? Have you device a means of using intermediaries to talk to your heavenly father because of what you have learnt and which you think your job or something does not give room for such kind of prayer? I want to encourage you that you need not be discouraged, know that God has incorporated you into his plan, God has you in mind even before you were begotten, and has a place for you in talking to him as you talk to your earthly father, parents, siblings and peers. All he wants of you is to be consistent in talking with him, be consistent like Prophet Daniel and other patriarchs of old were, you need no special thing to do this, you need no special trainings to do this, all that is required of you is consistency and be open minded for he knows you are human and he has made provisions for your talking to him. Start as you know how today and I want to assure you that you will never regret doing so.
