Studying the bible is always good. For years, I have been studying the bible and I found it wonderful
Bringing the Reader to Speed
In the first article, I wrote on definitions on prayer, when prayer starts and some of the components of prayer. While in the second article I finished my brief exegesis on components of prayer. The third article is centered on those who should pray. The fourth is on some of the reasons why talk (pray) to our heavenly father. The fifth article is on places of prayer while the sixth and seventh centered on occasions that move men to pray unto God. The eight article is on period (time) that men can pray. The ninth article focuses on how we should be praying. In the tenth article I write on a type of prayer, which is the prayer of thanksgiving.
While in the eleventh article I talked about three types of prayers which are, prayer of praise, prayer of worship and prayer of dedication (consecration). In the twelfth article I have talked about the following types of prayer: prayer of supplication, prayer of agreement, corporate prayer, prayer of commitment and prayer of imprecation. And in the thirteenth article I talked about prayer of vengeance, prayer of restoration, prayer of forgiveness, prayer of repentance and silent prayer. Article fourteen focuses on prayer of binding and loosing. In article fifteen I write on the prayer of contemplation. In the sixteenth article I start writing on the intercessory prayer and capped this up with some of the essentials of this prayer in article seventeen. Articles eighteen to twenty talk about prayer of faith.
In article twenty-one, I wrote on prayer of faith and then proceed to another type of prayer which is called eyes opening prayer. In this article I shall write on another types of prayer
20. Prayer of Class/Difference
This kind of prayer could in another word be called prayer of distinction, prayer of separation, prayer of confirmation. It is a kind of prayer that confirms the position of the person with his God, a prayer type that shows the side of whom God is.
When a child has wronged his parents, because the child was loved, and he has never been rebuked by his parents like Adonijah the son of King David he may think his father would support him in what he has done and would be bragging before others. Others too may not be sure of their parents disposition to this child’s misbehavior because he is loved by them. However, when the father arrived and having listened to their defenses he may not support the loved child and support those who have been skeptical of their father’s decision that day.
“And his father had not displeased him at any time in saying, why hast thou done so? and he also was a very goodly man; and his mother bare him after Absalom.” (1 Kin 1:6)
When this happens, the child would know that though his parents loved him or her but they do not condone iniquities.
This is the similitude of what happened between those who prayed this kind of prayer in the past, Prophets Moses and Elijah. Their prayer confirms to others who of course were also Israelites that God was on their side while they have erred in what God has commanded them. (Num. 16:28-34; I Kings 18:37; 2 Kings 1:9-14; 5:37)
The apostles case after the man at the beautiful gate was healed would also toe this path because the scribes and rulers of their days wanted to silence them, but one of them, Gamaliel rose among them and told them that they should not do so, if what they are doing is not in tandem with their laws, they would fizzle out like some sects of people who have risen before them for their campaigns die a natural death.
“Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space;
“And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men.
“For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought.
“After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed.
“And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought:
“But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.” (Act 5: 34-39)
I remember many years back when I was an assistant pastor in the local assembly. We have barely started the fellowship when it started to rain, and the minds of the women who were with me were not in the fellowship again because the rain was heavy and they were thinking about how they would get home with their children and still prepare foods for their hubbies. The spirit of God comes to me and tells me to tell them that they should not look at the rain again, but should concentrate on the fellowship and on what we are doing because on or before I finish the message the rain would stop.
Some of them who have been with me for a while believed instantly and keeps their mind in the fellowship actively participating in the program. On the other hand, some few ones do not believe, and their minds were not fully in the fellowship that day.
Albeit, by the time we share the grace in fellowship, the east wind blew across suddenly and the rain stopped instantly. It is a miracle that some of them would not forget, a miracle that keeps on drawing them to the midweek services because they know that when we start nothing would stop us from leaving because God was with us and supporting our messages and backing up our words with signs and wonders following.
“And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.” (Mar 16:20)
It is a prayer that we can pray when we want God to show the world that he is really for us as he has said in his word that he would put a distinction between the righteous (or those worshipping him) and the wicked (those not worshipping him).
“Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.” (Mal 3:18)
Uses of This Prayer
(i) It Confirms our Position: When we are uncertain about ourselves in faith, and we pray this prayer, God would confirm to us and the world that we are really his.
(ii) It Draws People to God the More: When a viper fastened itself across apostle Paul hand at island called Melita and he shook the viper into the fire without being hurt, the people were drawn to the Lord the more there. (Acts 28)
(iii) It Promotes Yahweh: When Prophet Elijah prayed this prayer and killed the prophets of Baal, the people fear the Lord and their hearts were drawn more to Yahweh than before. (1 King 18:37 ff)
(iv) It Helps to Remove Our Shame: When we pray this kind of prayer and God assists us to do what we and or people think we can never do in the gospel, our shame would be removed and people will fear our God like it happened to the three Hebrews in the land of Babylon (Dan 3: 18 ff)
Many people who have become saved in the countries and lands where they do not embrace the gospel of Jesus needs to pray this kind of prayer so that their shame would be removed and the people would know that they really have a living God.
Having seen few things about the prayer of difference, and the uses, I will employ us to pray this prayer so that God would intervene on our situation and put our enemies to shame. In the next article I shall be talking about prayer of authority.
