Pay Attention to Your Life

Rev. Margaret Minnicks is an ordained Bible teacher. She writes many articles that are Bible lessons.

Life is so fast-paced these days that so many people don't take time to pay attention to what is going on in their own lives. They seem to be doing everything except paying attention to what really matters.

What Should We Pay Attention To?

We should pay attention to what matters in our lives. So, what are the things that should matter to most people? The core things that should matter include the following:

  • health
  • family
  • job
  • faith
  • friends
  • education
  • financials

In order to evaluate our lives, we should monitor the core areas and pay attention to them.

We can begin paying attention to the following things:

  • rhe thoughts we think
  • the words we speak
  • the deeds we do

Pay Attention to Your Thoughts

It is extremely important to pay attention to your thoughts. You are the sum total of what you think because what you think leads to what you speak, and what you speak leads to your deeds.

You don't just pop up and do something without thinking about it first. Therefore, you can agree that your words and deeds first start with your thoughts.

Pay Attention to the Words You Speak

Pay attention to the words you speak because they are important to those who hear them including yourself. Your words can either help, heal, or harm. Words have power and they can change your world.

What you say reveals what's in your heart. Don't let your speech be filled with nagging, complaining, murmuring, grumbling, gossiping, and slandering.

According to Proverbs 18:21, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue." Therefore, watch what you say at all times.

Pay Attention to Your Action

You have heard it said that it is not what happens to you, but it is your reaction to what happens. Pay attention to your action and evaluate if you are reacting the right way.

Ask yourself the following questions:

  1. Is the way I act pleasing to God?
  2. Is the way I act pleasing to others?
  3. Is the way I act pleasing to me?

If your action is not pleasing to all three of the above, then you need to find out the reason and make the necessary changes as soon as possible.

For as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he. (Proverbs 23:7)

But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. (Matthew 12:36)

And whatsoever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father by him. (Colossians 3:17)

WOW! Tony! What a great testimony after you were tested. Glad to know your faith in God helped you to endure. Blessing to you!

Tony Muse from Texas, USA on March 20, 2018:

Others are watching us indeed. My family went through a very rough period about 9 years ago when I had lost my job, my youngest son was involved in a kitchen grease fire, then my wife lost her job. By the time my son was burned and mt wife had lost her job I had gained temporary employment as a contractor. On my exit interview the director of HR told me how impressed she was at how well I had handled all of the adversity in life that had come my way. I told my faith in God had seen me through. So YES, it is important that we act in accordance to our faith for we just "might" be the only Jesus that others see.

Blessing to you!

Good article but according to scripture the ONLY one I need to be concerned about is what Jesus thinks.

It matter not what I think or any man thinks it is Christ alone we are please in ALL things, thoughts and actions.

That is why Paul says to bring the word whether it is welcome or not.

churchman teach to not upset anyone but Christ requires we do upset those that claim to be His and are not.
