Our Heavenly Father Laughs and Sings

He sings to us

I have enjoyed the worship medley of Darwin Hobbs for decades. One of the songs titled You are my hiding place, references Psalms 32:7 .You are my hiding place; You preserve me from trouble; You surround me with songs of deliverance. The reality of this did not hit me until today. I was reading a story by fellow hubber Margaret Minnicks, where she expounded upon the fact that the Lord sings.it was as if I had heard this for the very first time. You can read God's Sings by clicking on the attached link. Ms. Minnick also referenced Zephaniah 3:17 NLT: For the Lord, your God has arrived to live among you. He is a mighty savior. He will rejoice over you with great gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will exult over you by singing you a happy song. How comforting it is to know that He will sing us happy songs of deliverance. Sometimes we get so caught up in praying, fasting, giving, attending church services, and all the things that we do, we don't reflect on what He is doing for us. We have known that laughing is beneficial because Psalms 17:22 tells us that a merry heart works just like medicine. Numerous verses admonish us to sing to the Lord, including Psalms 96:1Sing to the LORD, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples. For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the LORD made the heavens. How marvelous to know He has a song just for me and I am determined to listen for it and hear it today.

He laughs

Psalms 2:4 tells us that the Almighty laughs at the plans of man.

KingJames: He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.

The Christian Standard version puts it this way.
The one enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord ridicules them.
.
The Good News translation says.
From his throne in heaven the Lord laughs and mocks their feeble plans.

Palms 37:13 tells us: The Lord shall laugh at him: for he seeth that his day is coming.

Psalms 59:8 reveals But You, O LORD, shall laugh at them; You shall have all the nations in derision.

These scriptures let us know that when He laughs there is nothing funny about it and His laughter is an indication that man is getting too big for his britches. The Lord laughs because He knows there is a day of retribution for the wicked who scoff at Him. What a terrible situation to be in.

His secret place

it is far better, as Darwin Hobbs sings, to be in His secret hiding place (Psalms91) than it is to have Him laughing because your day of destruction is near. How heartwarming, however, that He will sing happy songs to us. In all of the preaching and teaching, I have listened to during my life, I have never heard anyone say that Our heavenly Father will sing to me. During these difficult times, we need more than celebrities and talk show hosts giving us their worldly advice on how to cope with this current pandemic. We are spiritual beings and we need our spirits to be fed from on high. There are times when no sermon, motivational speech, or positive confession will help. Sometimes, only the One who knew us before He formed us in our mother's wombs (Jeremiah 1:5) can give us what we need. How sad for those who have to say they were formed based on in-vitro fertilization in a laboratory dish. Surely something is missing because they cannot claim this scripture. They will have to seek comfort another way. Yes, they grow in the womb but often times it is not their mothers. How sad that man's advancements have moved so far from the way our Lord and Savior intended. The bottom line, no matter how you got here, is to remain in His secret place so that He will sing to you and not laugh at you.

Melodies from heaven

Gospel artist Kirk Franklin sang of those melodies from heaven and his desire for them to rain down on him.

Melodies from Heaven, rain down on me, rain down on me.
Melodies from Heaven, rain down on me, rain down on me.
Take me in your arms and hold me close, rain down on me, rain down on me.
Fill me with your precious holy ghost, rain down on me, rain down on me.

Melodies from Heaven, rain down on me, rain down on me.
Melodies from Heaven, rain down on me, rain down on me.
Take me in your arms and hold me close, rain down on me, rain down on me.
Fill me with your precious holy ghost, rain down on me, rain down on me.

It's better to have His melodies than His laughter.

This is a wonderful article, Cheryl. I never really thought much about God laughing or singing. Thank you for a new perspective.
