There are indeed real and serious live human astrologers who write and publish daily, weekly, and/or monthly horoscopes professionally -- and you can read them for free.

Readers today deserve the best. Do not rely on artificial intelligence horoscopes to provide you with personal guidance. Here's a guide, with links, to 12 real astrologers -- and 29 obvious fakes.

Authentic Online Astrologers

Every human astrologer has a different style and approach to chart interpretation and forecasting. Listed below, in alphabetical order, are legitimate, hard-working astrologers who publish online. I've talked with or emailed most of them, and they genuinely write original daily, weekly, and/or monthly forecasts. Their forecasts are free and written in English. The links are to their columns, not necessarily their homepages.

This is a starter list. There are many more. I usually monitor online astrologers for months and sometimes contact them before making recommendations.

For extra detail, I especially like CafeAstrology. Intelligent, lengthy horoscopes, done in "decans" for greater accuracy, are published on that site.

What to Know About Astrological Advice on the Internet

• As hard as it is to believe, horoscope writing, for print media or the web, or through apps, pays very little. So human astrologers often sell, from their personal websites, birth horoscopes, astrological compatibility readings, answers to questions (called "horary astrology"), telephone consultations, books or e-books, or memberships with exclusive benefits. If they have an app they might urge you to get it.
• I can't guarantee that paid horoscopes from individual astrologers will be fully custom-written or will exactly forecast your future, but selling them is legitimate.
• Beware of astrologers who might on their homepages advertise "psychic" services. Astrology is not psychic. It must be studied and learned.

How Can You Tell If a Horoscope Is Fake?

• Any "free trial offer" reading said to be personalized for you is computer-generated and generic. Everyone gets the same reading, with only a name change.
• Astrologer has a first name only. Most genuine astrologers have two names so you can google them or buy their books.
• Offers an "instant" personal reading. A genuine astrological chart is very technical and unique, and takes time to interpret fully.
• Author claims to be a "psychic," a medium, a shaman, a priest, a clairvoyant, a spell-caster, or a prophet.
• Astrologer's website features an oversized professional color glamour photo of the astrologer, looking hot or mysterious, or a photo of what is obviously a model.
• If you can Google your day's Sun sign horoscope and find it listed word-for-word under another Sun sign on another date, that's "recycling" and a computer is doing it.
• The author gives stupid advice. For example, he/she might tell you to "build a fort out of couch cushions and hide behind them all day and don't come out for anyone." (Honestly, that's word-for-word!)
• Calls you by the wrong Sun sign nickname: For example, you are Sagittarius and your zodiac nickname is "The Archer," but the horoscope calls you "The Ram," "The Crab," or "The Water Bearer." Someone's not minding the store.
• Googling the astrologer reveals bitter consumer complaints of actual money ripoffs. (Once in a while, Googling reveals personal attacks from one astrologer on another. Ignore these.)

29 Online Diviners to Avoid

Many online psychic ads offer free bogus horoscopes or tarot readings which send the same message to everyone who asks. Usually these are very long messages trying to sell you a high-priced "clairvoyant" or "psychic" "second reading," then a third one, and so on.

I investigate for months, trace website ownership, buy readings, make calls, consult consumer reports, look at the Wayback Machine and social media sites, and so on to make sure these are computerized corporate entities or scams, not people. So far I've found misleading these online entities:

5. Zoradamus (also calling herself "N. Zora") (That website won't open anymore.)
6. Sylvia Browne (the late TV psychic and founder of SpiritNow and AskNow; alas, she was a fake.)

8. George Tupak (He's "on shamanic retreat," meaning "out of business.")
9. Sara Freder (brought to you by the hosts of the discredited "Jenna" and "Norah")

13. "Aiden Powers" and AuthenticNumerology
14. "Katherine" and AstrologyAnswers ("Katherine" now uses the name of "Adrian Ross Duncan," a genuine astrologer who sold AstrologyAnswers the right to use his name. Adrian Ross Duncan does not work for or at AstrologyAnswers, does not do readings there, and does not write or okay the emails signed with his name.)

Notice the tendency for those offering "free readings" to use one name.

When I looked for proof of their claims, such as being "a fourth-generation clairvoyant" or "winning a Psychic of the Year Award," finding no proofs I checked for Internet complaints. So should you. If you find many bitter complaints, all the evidence, starting with the fake horoscope, points to fakery overall.

"Tara-Medium" told me I'd won a lottery, and that she could prove it—amazing, considering I didn't even play!

"Eric McCallum" predicts for everyone a "rare" and lucky "Temporal Pinnacle" when there is no such thing.

These non-authentic readers, who aren't readers but computers or phone banks, "out" themselves on their site's Terms of Service page, which says their readings are "for entertainment only." That loophole makes them perfectly legal.

Thanks for posting this. I have been complaining about "Tara-medium" since 2012. People have confused me for that fake. There is no real person and the site is owned by a man in China who also runs Angela, Padre, Celeste etc and spends thousands on advertising and phishing emails and free readings. Tara Medium also stole my content on YouTube and Ive complained but YouTube has done nothing. I put out new content daily on my blog. Im a serious astrologer for 29 years. Thanks Tara

I am researching on zodiac signs since many decades and I found that they are correct. The temperament and nature of all the 12 signs is different. When you see difference in person of same zodiac signs you should remember that every zodiac has around 30 days and there are 30 or 31 types of every zodiac. Why it is correct? It is impossible that very minute gravity and light of stars and planets can do something different with 365 persons born on different dates. The only reply is that there is some divine force who created this system.

I am not Tara-Medium I often get mixed up because this fake site ripped off my content on Youtube. I complained on Complaintsboard.com years ago and to YouTube but have not heard back from YouTube. I applaud you rooting out many of these fake hoax rip off sites. I am an authentic tarot reader astrologer and a psychic. I understand why you are warning the naive and against the combination as many fakes and newbies are hyping up astrology these days to jump on the bandwagon I am a natural psychic and intuitive. I have also studied Astrology for many years. I write horoscopes for Moonology, The Cosmic Intelligence Agency and other sites. I have trained in Tarot and am certified. I am a Transformational Psychotherapist. Please fix this list and write tara-medium to stop further confusion. Tara-Medium and others on this list are all owned by one Chinese man. The e-mails people get from the free Reading phishing are just a simple Astrology programme. Everyone gets the same spiel for their own Astrology sign and perhaps their numerology too. Clarice, Diana Rose is false. The astrological association "she" claims to be a part of -- Association of Professional Astrologers International -- has specifically mentioned and condemned that false claim: https://professionalastrologers.co.uk/members/News...

There is no "Diana Rose" -- "she" is a fictional figurehead created by a French company to scam people attracted by the offer of a free reading. No genuine professional astrologer offers free introductory readings -- especially to the whole Internet. Your free reading will be the same computerized reading everyone else gets, cleverly vague enough to apply to 80 percent of the population ("love is very important to you") -- and saying that there's much more to tell you if you'll pay for a second reading. If the reading uses your name over and over, that's a sure sign of a "canned" computerized reading.

Read the footer on the home page and the Terms of Service that openly say the readings are "for entertainment only" and they aren't responsible for what you do with their advice.

Fake psychic/astrological readings are big business, and the biggest scams are run by one or two men in France. I am very glad you asked before spending any money.

Useful input. I tried his report through Astrology Answers.com Guess his software is pretty detailed report was lengthy and requires time to dig through. Sylvia are any of the current 12/13 experts real on that site. I tried two of them for a question and their response felt surprisingly realistic. Most responses take at least 48 hours. did not find the pictures overly glamorous but anything can be airbrushed.I suppose if not real I did find it very consoling. Believe I asked Evelyn Porter and Evan Chen.

If you mean Adrian Ross Duncan, so many have asked about him that I finally contacted him to get the facts. He is a genuine astrologer, but has a business association with the questionable site AstrologyAnswers.com which signs his name to their rather cheesy emails, which he doesn't personally write, and he says he doesn't have the time to okay them all. He says the reports AstrologyAnswers.com advertises are created from his software, and are genuine. He has his own websites, World of Wisdom, and AstroWOW.com, and if I wanted a report I'd buy it directly from there.
