The Day the Devil Moves to His Eternal Residence - the Lake of Fire.

Satan Would Never Reveal His True Nature To Man

Do Not Be Deceived

Do Not Be Deceived

How the Mighty Has Fallen

A ruler of empires of both man and demons; with inherent powers beyond imagination; now a defeated, but NOT broken, despot of creation. To add to his humiliation, God sends a nondescript angel with the key to the bottomless pit carrying a great (megas3173) chain. The key, to which, belongs to our Lord Jesus Christ (Revelation 1:18). God did not choose Michael or another powerful angel for this task, as the real powers do not reside with the angels but with Him who empowers. We are more than victors in Christ. This is not an ordinary chain and per 2 Peter 2:4, Satan is fully aware of its intended use which makes this even more extraordinary as there is no mention of the Devil being able to put up any resistance. The word bound (deo - to knit, swathe, immobilize) is used for the first time in dealing with the Devil actually being physically and spiritually bound; as per Jude 9, no one has had the authority outside of the Lord until now.

Satan is cast906- with violence into the bottomless pit where he will take up residence for nearly a thousand years with no ability to deceive anyone. Earlier I stated that he was defeated but not broken; I want to explain what I mean. Today's evidence of our current penal systems has proven it over and over, that prison itself does not necessarily cause a person to reform themselves. This is why so many who commit heinous crimes; whether they receive short or long sentences which are eventually reduced; return to society with a greater evil intent. The old hanging judge of the Wild West, judge Roy Bean, stated that "..the best deterrent to crime is not the severity of the punishment, but the certainty of it." The problem with the Devil is that he so deceived, his stint in the pit will only make him more angry and evil than he was before. When he is finally released, he will hatch a new tactic to deceive the peaceful world of the millennium which is actually God's plan all along.

The Promise of Revelation 1:6 Fulfilled

Revelation 20:4-6 states the antithesis of Satan's imprisonment: the Devil rules no one but the Bride along with the Martyrs shall rule and reign with Christ for a thousand years. Please note that this does not include the redeemed Israel or the sheep, for they are the inhabitants of the New Earth. Israel will have a special prince or shepherd that shall oversee the Lord's people; the resurrected, King David. Ezekiel 34:23-24 "And I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even my servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd. And I the Lord will be their God, and my servant David a prince among them; I the Lord have spoken it." And Ezekiel 37:24-25 "And David my servant shall be king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd: they shall also walk in my judgments, and observe my statutes, and do them. And they shall dwell in the land that I have given Jacob my servant, wherein your fathers have dwelt; and they shall dwell therein, even they, and their children, and their children's children forever: and my servant David shall be their prince forever." I do not know if the resurrected Jews, i.e. Moses, etc., will have special assignments among the redeemed of Israel or not but David was truly a man after God's own heart. The vast majority of the first resurrection will be non-Jews and we have an inkling of our roles: the Bride with the peoples of the New Earth and the Martyrs with the administration of the New Jerusalem.

As this is just the comparison between the Devil and the resurrected; millennial life will be the subject of chapters 21 and 22.

The Question - Why Release Satan Now?

Three things have to happened to allow Satan to be released from the pit.

  1. The seal of God was broken or removed.
  2. The chains were loosed.
  3. The pit unlocked.

What is interesting is that the statements "are expired" and "shall be loosed" are all in the passive voice in Greek which means that the Devil had no part in the action of him being released. It was an act of God. The purpose will not be to deceive the world; per James 1:13-17 God never causes anyone to sin for the nature of man's flesh is more than enough fuel to cause one to sin. The purpose is to expose that which is already present on the earth in the hearts of much of the millennial population. Remember, God knows those who are His and will again separate out the tares.

What a sad commentary: the descendants of the sheep and quite possibly of the redeemed Israel as well; living on a perfect earth with perfect justice, health care, safety and without any needs will harbor rebellion in their hearts against the powers that be. Satan's release will be the catalyst that will make it surface and they shall separate and identify themselves in numbers "as the sand of the sea". They shall surround the camp (parembole3925 - encampment, barracks, castle), the New Jerusalem, the beloved city. Remember, the Bride is the beloved of God, and as we shall see, we are identified, in name, with the New Jerusalem.

No plagues, earthly or celestial disturbances, just a cleansing fire shall come down from God and the Devil, which has done His bidding by bringing out the indwelling evil among many will now join the Beast and the false prophet in the Lake of Fire.

The Final Judgment of Sin

A magnificent white throne and He who sat on it; Lord Jesus Christ, from whose face a broken heavens and earth could not stand. This is not a statement of chronology but as an identifying statement that it is Jesus upon the throne; He alone is Judge and He will abolish sin in every form and that our Lord at His return came to make all things new. Chapters 21 and 22 are descriptive of the millennium and I will begin to address this issue in my next blog.

The books were opened and the dead, those who did not take part in the first resurrection, shall stand before Christ and receive their final indictment and punishment according to their works. Books full of every evil thought, word and deed are recorded and all shall be without excuse. No one will be omitted, for every last soul to be judged, whether buried, burned, already a resident of hell or lost at sea shall receive their judgment personally from God Almighty. The Lake of Fire will receive its fill and its fire shall never be quenched. One other book shall be open as well; the Lamb's Book of Life. There shall be no mistakes; for they will be shown that their name does not exist in His book.

Too many Christians think it will a time to cheer and celebrate the judgment of the lost, especially if they were particularly evil (Hitler, Stalin, etc.) but I think not. Lamentation 3:33-34 "For He doth not afflict willingly, nor grieve the children of men. To crush under his feet all the prisoners of the earth." Most of today's world want to believe that Jesus is just love, love, love. He is also a consuming fire. The side of Him that is justice, demands judgment for sin and he will carry it out the sentence in a very business like manner for the evidence will speak for itself and none will be able to contend with His judgment.

We have seen the thousand years from satan's and the redeemed's perspectives with the end of all things stated very succinctly. We will now return to the beginning of the millennium to see what is awaiting the Bride, the martyrs, the 144,000, the redeemed Israel and the sheep for a thousand years. The bible does not discuss the details of eternity for "eye has not seen, nor ear heard what God has prepared for them that love him." Next up: the new heavens and earth and the New Jerusalem.

Education or social standing mean NOTHING to God and so many in this day and age have become TOO SMART for their eternal good. No one has to agree completely with one another to be a True Believer; some mature faster and some think they were born-again mature; not true. The Bible warns against arguing with a fool (or one acting foolish) in their folly. We have all acted foolish at one time or another but that does not make us fools (def. fool = one who denies there is a God). Whom God loves HE will chasten and if NO chastening comes as per Hebrews 12, that person is illegitimate, NOT a believer. Some of us take a little longer to allow the Truth to sink in; if he is a believer, God will help him come around. If he never comes around, you have your answer. My advice, avoid the argument but don't let up on the Scripture; it will drive him crazy. You may win a friend.

Clifton H. Rodriquez on October 22, 2017:

Brother Campbell, I just want to bring to your attention Satan's initial and greatest deception. It can be found in Genesis 3:4. Satan has men believing that they already are demi-gods", or half-gods. They believe that they have "immortal souls" which cannot die. I have a former college roommate and brother-in-Christ who revealed to me that he believes that he has an immortal soul which will go to Heaven when he dies. I advised him that he was mixing up his spirit with his soul (See Ecclesiastes 12:7). No, he claims that he is leaning with his Pentecostal denomination, and did not trust anything that I said to him. I specifically asked him to explain Psalm 16, Job 14:13-15, Ecclesiastes 9:1-10, John 20:17 and Romans 8:29. He refused to even read the scriptures. I then asked him to refer to John 3:13-16 and Romans 6:23. Then I said to him that it would be somewhat superfluous if we had an immortal soul already, but God still offers us eternal life as a reward for obeying the Gospel. He claimed that I had misinterpreted the scriptures and that the reward is that he would go to Heaven. (Question: Where do people get this nonsense-Gospel according to Luke?????) His denomination believes and teaches this theology to anyone who would subject themselves to their "Chrisitan culture". Brother, this guy is a medical doctor. He is not an idiot or fool, but when it comes to God's Word, he sits on his brain and defers to the less knowledgeable and prudent brethren. How do you deal with people as pig-headed as this brother?

Clifton H. Rodriquez on October 22, 2017:

Brother, I am going to assume that you are a believer, this is spot on accurate. Too many Christian believers today have been fooled into believing that they have an "immortal soul" and will not die, assuming that they deliberately engaged in sinful activities and die in their sins (Hebrews 10:26-27). The Bible clearly tells us that God will destroy both body and soul in the Lake of Fire & Brimstone (Matthew 10:28) because the soul that sinneth shall surely die (Ezekiel 18:4). Folks do not under either that Christ will return as a conquering King and Judge. I must say you are one of the few brethren who "study to show thyself approved".

David Campbell (author) from Winlock, Washington on August 09, 2015:

Mighty does not equal Almighty for only God is Almighty. Revelation calls certain of God's angels mighty (10:1; 18:21)the and even calls some of the mighty among the fallen foes (6:15; 19:18). It is a term that defines the relationship between angels and men in comparison to their own order, never in relation to God. Since God is the author of Revelation, He considers some angels to be mighty among His own and among men there will those who are considered mighty. Satan was among the most mighty of created angels before he fell: he is still very powerful and in his own demented mind, he is the most powerful and should replace God. Many are mighty, only in their own minds and circle of followers. I love how God uses a nondescript angel to bind Satan, for his "mightiness" is brought to naught.

ITGWF Disciple on August 09, 2015:

Not sure why you are calling him mighty, because there is only one Almighty.
