New Age Synchronicity vs Christian Confirmation

Is it a Confirmation or a Synchronicity?

This article addresses one of the many poisons that have crept into the Christian community. It is the practice of observing signs and symbols, synchronicities and happenstance to make or enforce decisions.

The basic process goes something like this, a person makes a statement, then notes an event and concludes that the statement must therefore be true.

Example #1

Billy: "The Mormon religion is the only true religion. All non-Mormons will burn in Hell." (Train whistle blows in background)

Billy: "See! Confirmation!"

Example #2

A pastor or a group of pastors begin to see the number 555 in many places. It is noted on the clock at 5 minutes to 6. It appears on a license plate in traffic. It's a number on a receipt. The tank tops off at 5.55 gallons at the Shell station. So, the pastors conclude "God is speaking to us." Then, without any kind of prayer, one of the pastors concludes, "It means I should write a book."

This is not a confirmation the way God communicates with His people. Example #1, above, at least the whistle blowing part, is a teaching of the sorcerer Don Juan to his apprentice, the American anthropologist Carlos Castaneda. The example #2 refers to teachings within the New Apostolic Reformation (more accurately called the New Apostolic Rebellion).

Bill Johnson of Redding, California is the one who used some unspecified version of private interpretation to render a series of 555 synchronicities into the reason for him to write Dreaming with God, a book full of errors.

What is a Confirmation in Christianity?

God confirms His people and His words with proof. A miracle and a fulfilled prophecy are confirmations of God.

When Jesus sighed his last breath on the cross, the veil in the Temple of the Lord rent in two. The graves of the prophets opened and the prophets walked around for days afterward. That is a miraculous confirmation. Jesus' bones were not broken when he was on the cross, he rode into town on a donkey, and performed many other acts prophesied in scriptures written thousands of years before Jesus was born. Those fulfilled prophecies also confirm that Jesus is the Son of God.

When challenged, Jesus defended himself saying that the Holy Spirit testified of him when the power of God healed as Jesus commanded sickness to depart. That is also a confirmation of God.

A confirmation in Christianity is nothing like a New Age synchronicity. God's confirmations are solid proof in the form of fulfilled prophecy or miracles. The whimsical associations and heuristical analysis utilized by sorcerers, the NAR, and New Agers are actually most often works of the devil.

A Personal Testimony about the Dangers of Observing Synchronicities

In 2005, I was praying and praying. I had repeated a stupid mistake I thought I would never repeat. Weeping and apologizing to God, I asked, "Why do I keep making these bad decisions?"

Immediately, I received a vision. I saw a series of events in which I made decisions. In each of these situations, I could see several, sometimes a dozen or more, items illuminated in an eery neon green color. As I saw the scenes in succession, and the neon green items, I understood that all of those things had been placed there in advance by the devil to stand as a "confirmation". Any one of them could have served to convince me that something good was transpiring in that place. Instead, it was the devil leading me off course.

A demon just has to present an opportunity, or implant a thought, then draw a person's attention to the "synchronicity" or pagan "confirmation" to lead the person astray.

In those scenes, there were steaming tea pots, clocks set at 3:33 and other repeating numbers... the kinds of things a sign-observer would notice.

After this, I determined to make decisions only with prayer.

New Age Synchronicity in the Methodist Church

Along with other problems of theology, the Methodists- at least Saint James United Methodist Church in Athens, Georgia (the one at 111 West Lake Drive) also have an observance of synchronicities.

Their teaching, which they act on, is that if three things happen in a short space of time, it means something. However, this pagan practice does not trump the spirit of control there.

Following the system, one day I was asked by three different members of the church, "Have you ever been on 'A walk to Emmaus'?" I went to my "shepherd" (an advisor assigned by the Methodists) and suggested I might go to the next 'A Walk to Emmaus' event. He flatly told me that I was not ready. So, the synchronicities cannot supersede those standing in power (another problem there- if you arrive down, you are never rising up; once a pew-warmer, always a pew-warmer where the spirit of religion reigns.)

The triple occurrence of anything in no way guarantees the Hand of God is moving. It is as worthless as the scream of an eagle (Native American), the whistle of a kettle, 3:33 every time you look at your watch, or 555 on a license plate.

These kinds of confirmations are not God's confirmations. They are synchronicities, sign interpreting, used by New Agers, witches, pagans, and deceived Christians.

How God Confirms

In my own walk with God Almighty, our Father in Heaven, I have learned this: God backs up His Word. When He sends a prophetic dream, it almost always comes with some kind of proof.

When I prayed and asked when I should leave America, he sent me a dream in which I saw several events. The first events involved reporters at the border of Korea and China, and a media event that followed. That part of the dream has already been fulfilled. The sign to leave America given to me in the dream is thereby already confirmed. The dream is vetted because God gave me the proof. God confirmed it with a fulfilled prophecy, not with synchronicity.

God sent many prophets to foretell the Messiah. Ultimately, this was there true purpose: to foretell the Messiah, the Promised One. Each prophet before Jesus foretold of war and calamity that was coming because of the sinful nature of the people of their time. They exposed worship of idols, human sacrifices, and witchcraft and unrepented sin. All these things eventually came to pass. This vets, confirms, and verifies the words of those prophets. That is why Jesus fulfilled all the prophets. Jesus' coming and fulfillment of all their prophecies completed the purpose of the prophets.

That is how God confirmed Jesus. First, He confirmed the prophets with fulfilled prophetic warnings about destruction, invasion, and other things. Second, Jesus came and fulfilled all the predictions about the Redeemer.

Even the dove which lighted upon Jesus was not a synchronicity. God foretold the dove to John the Baptist before it happened. The dove was a confirmation, a fulfillment of a word from the Lord. A synchronicity would have gone like this: John wondered who the Messiah might be. Just then, at exactly the same time John wondered that thought, a man stumbled and fell directly in front of Bob the Baker. Bob also wore an apron with a crown symbol on it. So, John understood by synchronicity that Bob the Baker was the Messiah.

Multi-Prophecy Dream, First Prophecy Already Fulfilled

Confirmation of Stock Market Descent

On my dream blog, I posted a warning that the stock market would crash. In that dream, the Holy Spirit showed me that it would start with a fall of 4.04% and 4% falls in following days. That happened on August 8, 2011. That post is here:

Stock Market falls 4.04%

Note that on that day, a day God used to show that He is going to send a punishment on America that the Dow dropped 6.66% and the S&P fell 5.55%. Maybe Bill Johnson started another book that day.

The Difference Between a Synchronicity and a Confirmation

Synchronicity: A work of Satan to confuse and misdirect unwise Christians and others who follow pagan religious systems and philosophies.

Confirmation: A fulfilled prophecy or a miracle.

If the use of synchronicities plagues your church- be the one to teach the correct way to seek and follow God.

This article explains very openly that they are two distinct things. One is created by Satan (synchronicity), and the other is God's way, which is found over and over again in scriptures.

It seems you have created a theology in which there is no devil. That is one of Satan's tricks. He wants people to believe he does not exist. If he can't get that, then he wants you to believe he is brother of Jesus (Mormons), or that he IS Jesus (some ASV, NIV readers), or that he has no power (NAR), or that the things he does are being done by some third party, not him.

I recommend you read the scriptures more regularly. False teachings, false teachers, and false church systems do not last long for the person who studies the scriptures.

I've said a prayer for you. Peace.

R.D. South on April 23, 2015:

Synchronicity and what you call confirmation are the same phenomenon. God does both, for effect. So whatever it takes to move you correctly will happen. If you are a Christian, you will be interacted with through a Christian format. If something else, you will be interacted with through what you understand. If you believe in the devil, God will give you the devil. If you only believe in one God, there will only be one. It's all to nudge us into playing our role. You should not try to force God to conform to your expectations, but let God be in charge.

Roger Crigger from Northern Idaho on September 29, 2012:

Jesus, of course part of the trinity of God actually said, on more than one occasion that He spoke "Only what THE FATHER told Him to speak". "For I did not speak of my own accord, but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and how to say it." - John 12:49. He also addressed the issue of "common" sense in John 3:11. " I tell you the truth, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony". As 'knowledge' increases... More and more will the deceiver do what he has come to do...DECEIVE! Still using the same tactic that he's always used...Starting in the garden with the very downfall of man...VANITY! Again, it was even prophesied that He would come and SPEAK THE WORDS OF THE FATHER in Deut.18:18 " I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers; I will put my words in his mouth, and he will tell them everything I command him.!"

Many, many spirit's are indeed running around...DECEIVING in this day and age, and if you don't know the Word, you will be drawn in. The "HOLY" Spirit does indeed speak to us NOW...Jesus said that He would, and thank God that He does, but if you're not in touch, in communication with God AND HIS WRITTEN WORD... You will believe that EVERY from God! Is it any wonder that the whole world, it seems is trying to rid the newly enlightened of Christianity? There is ONE WAY, if it weren't so, the torrent of delusion would not be so determined to "save the world" by ridding it of such barbaric teachings. And, yes, actually, Christians ARE already being killed because....they're Christian! Darkness cannot exist if there's a Light in the room! Even ONE divine spark dispels the darkness... Hold on to your hats brothers...and stay CLOSE to THE WORD OF GOD! " In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not." - John 1: 1-5

Man from Modesto (author) from Kiev, Ukraine (formerly Modesto, California) on September 27, 2012:

P.S. Spence: There is a holy spirit, and there is an unholy spirit. Those who follow the unholy spirit are destroyed; it ruins the lives of those who wed themselves to it.

It can be accurate. It can even help in some circumstances- but, that is part of the long con. It ultimately, and usually quickly, destroys the practitioner.

If you truly believe the Holy Spirit of Almighty God is with you, then test yourself. Pray for someone to be healed. If the Kingdom of God testifies of you by healing, and the person remains healed... then that is something.

God confirms His word, and desires to do so. That is why He told us to go out and preach the gospel, cast out devils, and heal the sick.

P. Steven Spence on September 27, 2012:

The SPIRIT has spoken through my experience but you do not hear the SPIRIT only the letter of the book and not the true intention of the heart. All the evidence from the SPIRIT has been shown,, time is SHORT!

Man from Modesto (author) from Kiev, Ukraine (formerly Modesto, California) on September 06, 2012:

Spence: I googled the words you put in quotation marks:

"I do not speak, but the SPIRIT speaks through me"

Those words, in that order, produce ZERO results. This means you have the wrong words of Jesus.

Consider these scriptures which say "Holy Spirit", and not just SPIRIT:

Luke 12:12, Acts 2:4, Acts 4:8, Acts 13:9

And these which say a man speaking God's words come from "Christ":

2 Cor 13:9

And attributing it to "the word of God": 1 Thes 2:13

I am a bit concerned because New Agers and compromised Christians use the term "spirit" (all caps or otherwise) to refer to the bad wife spirit they have. Adam and Eve lived in the Garden of Eden, and they heard both the voice of God, and the voice of the enemy.

We must discern which to believe and which to obey.

The unholy spirit can make predictions, and it does. Even psychics get some things correct.

I saw a false prophet several years ago. He could tell people the day and the hour they prayed a certain thing. People were impressed, and he toured that denomination on two continents. He was later banned when his arrogance and greed came to the surface.

Jesus did say that he said and did nothing on his own, but said and did what he saw "my Father in Heaven" do and say.

One other sign of someone under the influence of false spirits is that their teaching and speaking can be difficult to follow.

A person who is truly broken will come to God with a clean and open heart. All his worldliness will be pushed aside, and he will be open to hear whatever the Holy Spirit will say. However, unbroken people have been known to hear the voice of God on occasion.

Was Jesus "broken"? What about Samuel, Jeremiah, and King David?

P. Steven Spence on September 06, 2012:

My whole life the SPIRIT has used synchronicity to communicate and after being denied and rejected by hundreds of people the SPIRIT correctly predicted in the spring of 2011 hurricane Irene would begin on my father's death date which was Aug 26th. Hundreds of other perfectly accurate predictions to reach loved ones lost behind a veil of interpretation called religion that they did not GET FROM THE SPIRIT OF GOD. The End of the PRESUMPTUOUS WOMAN is the end of religion by human interpretation. All will deny the SPIRIT in religion and then be shown to be misled. For as it was the SPIRIT that spoke through Jesus and not Jesus for he said "I do not speak, but the SPIRIT speaks through me" therefore It is the SPIRIT that said "I am the way, the truth and the life". dnatree blogspot even the stockmarket exactly two years to the date before it happened. Japan six months prior. Kim Jong three months prior. LA train crash exactly where the train would be coming out of the tunnel thirteen days before it happened. Unless your heart is broken You cannot know the true intentions of the heart of Jesus.

Good to know a fellow watchman! God will NEVER move contrary to HIS own Word! In the end times "Many will come in my name" according to the Word of God and they will in fact NOT be of, from or for God at all. Wolves in sheeps clothing. All the more as "Knowledge increases", if we don't stand FIRM on the Word of God we WILL be swept away in this last and greatest torent of the adversaries final push! Even the elect....if that were possible! It is very "Politically correct" now days to acknowledge, (Errantly) that "we are just being enlightened...that's all". WRONG! If it isn't solidly found in THE WORD OF GOD....IT'S NOT OF GOD! Remember, regarding "enlightenment", The devil himself masquarades as an "Angel of "Light""!! Good HUB brother...God be with you! And stay CLOSE to HIM...The darkness will always try to snub out REAL enLIGHTenment!

Man from Modesto (author) from Kiev, Ukraine (formerly Modesto, California) on February 13, 2012:

Thank you for your peaceful input. My lack of toleration is not against my fellow man. It is against anything which attempts to replace God in the hearts of His creation- men. God loves. Those who have His spirit in them also love. It is unavoidable and welcome.

A "religion", as I use the term, is something a person uses to guide their lives. When an atheist told me he would check with his professors to determine what he should believe- how he should live - I told him that his professors were his gods and academia his religion. When someone believes the avenue to a better life exists in New Age principles, then New Age philosophy has become their religion.

When a man or woman decides to check the Akashic records to learn about something instead asking the Holy Spirit; or uses crystals and Reiki instead of prayer and authority of the Word of God, then a substitute for God has taken His place. All such things are of the devil.

You may disagree with these statements. But, Christians are at war with the powers of Hell. The New Age system is one such power, as are many major religions- including some which label themselves "Christian". The war is for SOULS.

There is just one way into Heaven, into the eternal afterlife described by every major religious system in the history of man: Jesus. Those who accept Jesus as the Son of God and the only propitiation for unright living are forgiven and enter Heaven (this must be proven by living right). Those who reject Jesus, and who refuse to follow Him, living however they desire in their own emotions, mind, and flesh, will NOT enter in.

So, in the end, I want to warn you: refusing to accept Jesus is the worst decision any person can ever make. God warned: "What do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your soul?"

Jesus also said, "My people perish for lack of knowledge."

ormamoore from united kingdom on February 13, 2012:

New Age is not a religion! It's actually called New Age Wisdom. It is not a substitute for religion, it can be used alongside conventional religion. Nor is it against Jesus or any other prophets.

New Age consists of practises such as meditation, aromatherapy and it's belief system aims to raise spiritual awareness. To liken it with the devil and evil shows a lack of common sense, a dangerous bias upon those who practise its principals and a lack of toleration for your fellow man!

Man from Modesto: What you have said here is truth. This so called "New Age Religion" as they call themselves I see as "Rap" which I call, "CRAP" none of it makes any sense and none of it is scripturally tied. Christianity through Christ Jesus is the one and only truth and true way we will return back to our creator Almighty God. There is no other way.

Man from Modesto (author) from Kiev, Ukraine (formerly Modesto, California) on February 12, 2012:

A prophecy recorded by the last living disciple of Jesus, John, warns us that in the last days there will be a mandatory religion. The "Antichrist", as he is popularly called, a man who will receive Satan's powers, will work with the "false prophet", the head of a false world religion.

The catholic empire and Islam are working on a merger. False Christians (really wolves) are leading the way. Men like Rick Warren and Bill Johnson spread false versions of Christianity. Eventually, as many have been warned in dreams and prophecies, a major world persecution against real Christians will come. Just as Jews were previously killed simply for being a Jew, Christians will be killed at a time in the future. A false world religion will become mandatory.

This has happened before. In Rome, about 300 A.D., the government established a mandatory, universal, church. ALL religions, pagan and Christian were mixed together. Whoever refused, was fed to the lions. That is why popular "Christian" holidays today are not Christian at all. Easter, Halloween, and Christmas are actually pagan.

Everything called "New Age" IS part of Satan's plan to rule the world.

The people in it, however, just lack knowledge to make a right decision. They are not the devil.

I think it's ridiculous and damaging to profess all new-agers as the devil!!
