Near Death Experiences and What They Mean

Drawing of out of body experience (OOBE).

NDEs and What They Mean

We will examine several Near Death Experiences (NDEs) which verify that we have a soul/spiritual/light body separate from our physical bodies. We will then examine what NDEs mean.

See book, “NEAR-DEATH EXPERIENCES the rest of the story” 2011 by P.M.H. Atwater. Atwater studied some 3,000 adult cases and about 300 child cases. Starting in chapter seven are cases which have been “Verified.” By “Verified” it means the person obtained information outside his normal five senses was later were corroborated by investigation.

While clinically dead, George arose and went to the newborn section of the hospital near where his body lay. George noticed a baby with a broken hip. Upon reviving, George told the doctors about the baby’s broken hip and added, the hip is broken because the nurse dropped her. X-rays showed the break. When the nurse was confronted, she admitted to dropping the baby. At page 59.

While having a hernia operation, Mark found himself above the operating table looking down at his body. Mark ‘flew’ out of the operating room to a waiting room where his parents were. He sat next to his mother and later recounted the conversation of his parents. Mom turned white when Mark repeated almost verbatim what they were talking about. At page 65.

We are an energy body.

Our energy is attached to the material body.

Our energy is attached to the material body.

Proven NDEs by Raymond A. Moody, Jr. M.D.

An elderly woman accurately described in detail the instruments that were used during her resuscitation and the techniques employed by the doctors. She also told her doctor who came in and out of the room, what they were wearing and what they did. The doctor reported that everything she told him was exactly as it happened. One explanation skeptics have for such occurrences is that the patient subliminally senses what is happening and fills in the picture with their observations from before and after the NDE. The trouble with that theory in this instance is that the woman had been blind since birth.

A woman with a heart condition lay dying at the same time that her sister lay in a diabetic coma elsewhere in the hospital. After the woman was revived, she told the doctor that she and her sister had watched her operation from near the ceiling as it occurred. She then told the doctor that she knew her sister had died. The doctor denied this, but at the woman’s insistence, he sent a nurse to check on her sister’s condition. She had indeed died while the woman was being operated on

NDEs Teach to Forgive & Avoid Judgment

From Reflections on Life after Life 1977 by Raymond A. Moody, Jr. M.D. Moody studied hundreds of near death cases for over a year to compile his book.

Most of the individuals interviewed did Not experience any reward/punishment crisis, the traditional model of being reviewed.

Again and again, my near death subjects have described a panoramic, wrap around, full color, three dimensional vision of the events of their lives. Some people say that during this vision they saw only the major events of their lives. Others go so far as to say that in the course of this panorama every single thing that they had ever done or thought was there for them so see. All the good things and all the bad were portrayed there at once, instantaneously. It will be remembered also that this panorama was quite frequently said to have taken place in the presence of a “being of light,” whom some Christians identified as Christ, and that this being asked them a question, in effect, “What have you done with your life?” P. 31-32

In being pressed to explain as precisely as they can what the point of this question was, most people come up with something like the formulation of one man who put it to me most succinctly when he said that he was asked

whether he had done the things he did because he loved others, that is, from the motivation of love.

At this point one might say, a kind of judgment took place, for in this state of heightened awareness, when people saw any selfish acts which they had done they felt extremely repentant. Likewise, when gazing upon those events in which they had shown love and kindness they felt satisfaction. P. 32

It is interesting to note that the judgment in the cases I studied came not from the being of light, who seemed to love and accept these people anyway, but rather from within the individual being judged.

A passage in Matthew respecting judgment is of some significance in this regard. The KJV, Matt 7:1-2: Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged; and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

See website IANDS

See website International Association for Near Death Studies (IANDS) for stories on near death experiences. Search the site for "vertical" NDEs. The term "vertical" gives the verified stories.

Our "Judgment" is actually a projection of ourselves.

According to hundreds of NDE cases from the best researchers, NDEs teach us to reconcile with others on this plane of existence. Associate any negative emotions you may have with the person and learn to forgive them. Reaching out to reconcile is enough. Just make the adjustment in your own mind and make an effort.

Learn to avoid judging others to the extent of creating negative emotions in your own mind. Remember you do not have perfect knowledge and cannot thouroughly know their point of view. People are at different stages of development in this plane so avoid the worst ones and pray for their growth. You may pray: Thank you for making it clear to me as to : who I am, what I believe and what I do.

See Hub: "GOD DOES NOT CONDEMN, we judge ourselves in a mirror held by God."

NDEs and the spirit

Verified NDEs/OOBEs tend to prove an afterlife exists.

A diffecult subject becomes eaiser with information.

Umesh Chandra Bhatt from Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, India on February 23, 2020:

A difficult subject. Well brought out.

Jay C OBrien (author) from Houston, TX USA on January 24, 2016:

Sparkster, remember the test:

whether he had done the things he did because he loved others, that is, from the motivation of love.

What are you doing for others?

Joining a group gives feedback... that is a good thing.

Marc Hubs from United Kingdom on January 23, 2016:

Yep, plenty of experiences verified by multiple others. Photographic and video evidence too. I can also manifest UFOs and orbs at will and my children have also seen them. This, to me, is just parapsychology and is the true nature of consciousness (it's universal - or God consciousness). I've blown two light bulbs in my bedroom recently, I can cause it to flicker on and off very easily by focusing on it. This is all mainly from research and experimentation but has increased significantly over the last few years. This may sound a little contradictory but I want to get the details right - I hadn't yet developed these abilities when I first started writing for Hubpages but I had already achieved telekinesis and had accessed file downloads from into the future when I first signed up with Hubpages - but it was all so bizarre that I kept convincing myself there was a rational explanation. However, over the years the evidence which is now undeniable has continually come forth and I've now mastered it all.

I don't really have any desire to find a "Search for God" study group. What would I do? I could go there and demonstrate how the future can be accessed or how telekinesis can be achieved through the power of the God-consciousness but what benefit would that be? What difference would it make? I was even thinking of participating in some parapsychology research (I'm already participating in FREE which is Edgar Mitchell's Foundation for Research into Extraterrestrial Encounters), I see that some parapsychologists are offering good money to anyone who can prove these abilities. It has become clear, however, that they are not genuinely interested.

They don't respond to applicants and most parapsychology research happens in secret under highly classified conditions. I'm sure they're trying to discredit it rather than prove it and that searching for people with such capabilities is actually an attempt at suppression. They don't want this information getting into the wrong hands.

Sparkster, any experiences verified by another? Try attending a, "Search for God Study Group" and see what they say.

Marc Hubs from United Kingdom on January 23, 2016:

You are right that people do not necessarily need to have a NDE to experience these things. As I have commented to you before, I learned how to tune in to them naturally although I have had a NDE experience since that and have seen a lot more and I'm talking about things which are so real that they can be photographed and yet it's all very mystical and defies mainstream belief systems.

My experience is not too different to that given by galleryofgrace above. I have been increasingly experiencing unexplained phenomena, weird dreams, precognition/premonitions, clairvoyance, etc all with stunning accuracy and have learned how to affect physical reality with my mind. I had also started learning about and practicing these phenomena before my NDE but ever since then, they have increased in strength significantly.

Donna Suthard on July 06, 2015:

Quite interesting! At the age of 35, I was lying in bed one morning.. my radio clock began crackling, electronic sounds.. It was off, next thing I knew I was soaring upwards at a fast rate! I could see the trees and sky.. It was amazing to say the least. At six years of age. My arm was badly burnt, and gangrene set in.. Dr's gave me they performed a skin graft. I remember going through a tunnel.. So peaceful...

Jay C OBrien (author) from Houston, TX USA on May 19, 2015:

Perhaps you would share a verified telepathic experience on Hub, "My Telepathic Experiences."

galleryofgrace from Virginia on May 18, 2015:

My case is in one or two of PMH Atwaters books . I do not remember if I am at liberty to explain it all. I will say I was told it was not my time when I showed concern for my family; who would miss me. I did see a filmstrip of my life and saw the things I had done wrong to my sisters. I was only eleven so the film was short. Communication with the beings who greeted me was telepathic. Since then I have experienced a lifetime of unexplained phenomena. Prophetic dreams, clairvoyance, premonitions and more are everyday life to me. Intuition is of utmost importance. More people should follow their gut feelings.

Jay C OBrien (author) from Houston, TX USA on May 18, 2015:

Would you tell us about your experience? Was it verified by another? Why do you suppose churches do not teach OOBEs?

galleryofgrace from Virginia on May 17, 2015:

Very interesting and useful. My own case was documented by PMH Atwater.

Jay C OBrien (author) from Houston, TX USA on April 06, 2015:

It is my understanding astral projection or Out of Body Experiences (OOBEs) do not require an NDE. NDEs often contain a memory of an OOBE, but not always. Both assume we are a spirit or energy body attached to a material body. I wonder why churches do not teach the verified OOBEs as they would prove an afterlife exists.

Audrey Howitt from California on April 05, 2015:

This is such an interesting article--I know a bit about Moody's work--I wonder whether NDE's and astral projection are somewhat similar.
