What is a Near Death Experience?

Is There an Afterlife? Do You Believe in NDE?

The End of Life as we Know it

In 2001, my (late) husband, David became addicted to pain killers. He was a disabled Army Veteran and in a great deal of back pain. He tried to get help, but we no longer had health insurance, and his V.A. doctors didn’t recommend it. He was constantly falling and re-injuring himself, partially from the nerve damage caused by Cervical Spondylotic Myelopathy and being high on the pain killers. His life had become an endless circle of pain and suffering.

Although he was in a great deal of pain, he decided he was going to get off the pain killers and try more physical therapy exercises. David quit the narcotics, cold turkey, and suffered through horrifying withdraw symptoms. He refused to let me call anyone or take him to the hospital. I tried my best to keep him comfortable with cool towels and sips of water when he could tolerate it.

All of a sudden, he told me to leave the bedroom. I wanted to stay, but he became adamant on my leaving him alone. So I went into the living room. Amazingly, I fell asleep on the sofa for two hours. I guess the exhaustion caught up with me. I was so surprised that I could fall asleep knowing what my husband was going through in the other room. I could only assume it was Devine Intervention because he had to have this experience on his own, uninterrupted.

I own this book, and its a great read!

In Loving Memory

The End of His Life or The Beginning of His Life?

I awoke when David emerged from the bedroom with an indescribable look on his face. He was no longer in pain and, in fact, had no more withdraw symptoms of any kind. He sat down next to me and proceeded to tell me this story:

He could feel himself slipping away, which is why he asked me to leave the room. The bedroom started spinning and turned into a black tornado. He was inside the tornado. As he ascended he saw millions of pictures of his life fly by him. He neared the top of the tornado and could see about ten feet left of it before a magnificent bright “sky” shown. He could see through the tornado at this point, and described Jesus standing there with his arms open. Jesus was speaking in a familiar language, but it wasn’t English. He pointed with His right arm and a dark shadow was drawn out of my husband’s body, and he immediately felt relief.

David described Jesus as wearing a white robe, “whiter than anything on Earth”. His arms were open and welcoming. However, Jesus’ left arm was much lower than the right. David said that all that was surrounding him was pure love. It went throughout the universe. He said we were all connected with this indescribable love. He became frustrated because there are no words that could explain what he saw and felt.

At that time he descended back down the tornado and landed on our bed. He felt total peace and amazement. That is when he came into the living room and began to tell me what happened. What David thought was a 5-10 minute experience was 2 hours. He said it was so magnificent that he didn’t want to come back here (to Earth).

A few months later, David had neck surgery which caused his left arm to become mostly paralyzed. He believed that Jesus was showing him that it would happen by lowering His left arm. David also tried to tell me that the remainder of the tornado was his lifetime on Earth, and he believed he wouldn’t live much longer. He said if it happened again, he wasn’t coming back. It was just too beautiful to resist.

I own this book, and its a great read!

David's Message

In 2004, at the age of 45, David passed away from heart failure. I have vowed to tell his Near Death Experience story until it's my turn to leave this planet and experience the bliss of Heaven. I can only hope his story has inspired you to renew your faith in the Lord.

Mmargie1966 Thank you for sharing this story. It is amazing. Your husband was blessed for having a wife who loved him so much. There are a lot of mysteries in life. We cannot prove any of them. Like my hub https://micheletravis.hubpages.com/hub/When-We-Die... I do have epilepsy and had a near death time. Before surgery, they took me off all of my medications. They do that so they would know what part of the brain to operate on. I had a very bad seizure. I stopped breathing. They waited for two minutes, then started to breath for me. They had to keep me breathing for two more minutes. I don't remember anything. This is an amazing hub. Thank you for sharing it. Thumbs up!

That is really interesting! Thank you for sharing gramon1.

Thank you for the compliment as well. Yes, I have found love again. I am happily married to a wonderful, healthy man, and I know David is happy about that.

Margie. The good thing about these experiences is that they confirm our believe in the after life. Before it happened to me, I was agnostic, verging on atheist. The night after the experience, I had a dream about something that happened in November 5, 1946, in Vasco di Gama, Goa, India. I had no idea of the existence of a province called Goa or a city called Vasco Di Gama in India. I checked the date, place, and fact on the internet. Definitely, after having almost died and dreamed a reality in which I never was, I gained certainty about believes that had never made sense to me before. I gained a sense of communion with the spiritual world.

And by the way, David was fortunate to have such a unique experiece, and a wife that loved him like you did. I hope you will find that kind of love again. I am sure David agrees with me on this.

I'm sorry you had to go through so much pain, gramon1. Since it happened to you twice, I believe there is definitely a reason you are still here on Earth.

Thanks so much for sharing ~

Guillermo Ramon from Miami on March 04, 2012:

I had two experiences. in one, I went o the light. I am not a Christian, so I didn't see Jesus. However, I saw the light, felt the love that draws you to it, and saw beings going to and from the light. they were all made of pure white light.

The other time, I had been hit by a car. I lied down, immobilized, being able only to open and close my eyes. When I closed my eyes, I would be walking around, but seeng everything made of hollow energy. I could se things and through things. I opened my eyes and was down, paralyzed temporarily. This happened several times, until I was able to move again and did not walk around in my mind (or whatever) after I closed my eyes. Then, I was lying there, with so much pain in my whole body as I had never felt before. It took years to completely recover from the pain.
