Mystery of Godliness

Attending Bible school at age 17, it was expressed there is a need for modern day Christian writers. So I have accepted the challenge.

The Mystery of Godliness

Inside the book we refer as the Bible we find a thread revealing that Godliness is a mystery, and that we are to search it out and see for ourselves what it is.

I Timothy 3:16 Without controversy great is the mystery of Godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the gentiles, believed on in the world and received up into glory.

Ephesians 3:1-4 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery, whereby when you read, you may understand my knowledge of the mystery of Christ.

Ephesians 3: 9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world has been hid in God; who created all things by Jesus Christ. (Also Eph 1:7-11 & 1:17-23)

The mystery of Godliness is the greatest issue of doctrine, and yet sometimes the greatest point of contention in the religious world today. If all people understood the mystery as Apostle Paul understood it and declared it, then there would be no contention over the doctrine of salvation.

There is only one supreme God. Deuteronomy 4:39 “ Know it this day and consider it in your heart, that the Lord he is God in heaven above and upon the earth beneath: there is none else.”

Deuteronomy 6:4 “ Hear oh Israel; the Lord our God is one Lord” Mark 12:29-34 The first commandment by Jesus- “ Hear oh Israel; the Lord our God is one Lord” and the scribe replied “that is correct, for there is one God, there is none other but he.” This was the greatest commandment; the rest being to love the Lord your god with all your heart soul and mind:

He's a Spirit: John 4:24 “God is a spirit and we that worship him must do so in spirit and in truth”

He's invisible: Colossians 1:15-17 their claim that Jesus “is the image of the invisible God”.

II Corinthians 5:19 “To with God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself.”

Zechariah 14:9 “And the Lord shall be king over all the earth; in that day shall there be one Lord, and His name One.”

GOD HATH DECLARED THAT THERE IS ONLY ONE SAVIOR, ONE HOLY ONE OF ISRAEL. Isaiah 43:10-11 “before me there is no God, neither shall there be after me. I even I am the Lord and beside me there is no Savior.”

Isaiah 43:15 “I am the Lord, your holy one, the creator of Israel, your King.” 48:12; “hear me Jacob and Israel, my called; I am he, I am the first and the last.” Also Isaiah 44:6

Ephesians 4:5-6 "One Lord, one faith, One baptism, one God and father of all who is above all, through all in you all. JESUS -claimed that he and the father were one and the same."

John 14:7 “If you had known me, you would have known your Father also: and from henceforth you have known him and seen him.” (there is no mystery left in that!)

John 16:24 “before this, you have asked nothing in my name; Ask and you shall receive that your joy may be full. These things I have spoke in proverbs; but the time is coming when I will show you plainly of the father.”

Christ as a man had a human spirit: He was both human and divine. As a man however, he had need to pray.

John 17:6 “I have manifested thy name unto the men you have given me out of this world. ”He was teaching the disciples who he was. (Vs 26)

The revelation of the Name of Jesus was taught to the apostles. As God he was the savior.

Titus 1:1-4 says “God the Father, God the Lord Jesus Christ our savior.” Remember "God was hid in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself." (2 Corinthian 5:19) Titus was not differentiating between 2 different Gods. We've already settled that there is only One God and one Lord Jesus Christ..

As God he was the incarnate Savior: As Christ he was divine God robed in flesh. Titus 2:10 “not purloining but showing all good fidelity: that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things. Vs 13; looking for that blessed hope and the appearing of the great God and our Lord Jesus Christ. Here's the mystery revealed. God came from heaven in the official status of Savior. When we see him finally on our way up, we will see our great god and Jesus Christ. The Mystery is the dual nature of Christ. He is/was both God and man. Enough man to suffer on a cross in our place, and to cry out it is finished and enough God to Save us.

Jude the writer and disciple said this in closing his bible passage: Vs 25; “Now unto the only wise God our Savior be grace and truth, now and ever; Amen:” Did Jude understand the Mystery? I think So.

Revelation 4:2 “ and immediately I was in the spirit, (says John), and behold a throne was set in heaven and one sat on the throne. Some people think that there will be three thrones up there. What do you think? How can a spirit properly “sit” in a throne? Gods spirit did stay in the ark of the covenant between 2 golden cherubim, but that's the closest you will see. The everlasting God said, Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool. Only in the glorified body of Jesus Christ will we see him upon a throne. Other places clearly define a simple symbolic seat of power: Namely where it says “and Christ sat on the right hand of God.” friend the Apostles wanted you to know that Jesus is all in all. Jesus tried to tell you that in red letters. He said there is no more mystery after the cross. Deuteronomy 4:39 “Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart: that the Lord he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath. There is none else.” Jesus is glorified. He fulfilled his earth mission of Bethlehems manger, life ministry, death upon a cross, burial, resurrection and ascension.

The big thing we should focus on about the glorified Jesus is that he maintains a place as our high priest and ever makes intercession for us before God, so in that sense he keeps a form, a shape and a purpose. But remember he is filling a place of mediator between man and God; in doing so it requires a crown and a vesture and a diadem, as we see throughout the book of revelations.

He is the image of the heretofore unseen eternal God. Even yet he was the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. He is the mystery of Godliness. God who at sundry times and in divers manner hath spoken by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand (denotes power)of the Majesty on high:

John 8:19 “If you had known me, you should have known my father also”. Vs 24 “except you believe that I am he, you shall die in your sins”.

The Fellowship of the Mystery:

Ephesians 3:9 “and to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery”. Friend, there are those who say it doesn't matter who I think he is, but it was almost a daily lesson that Jesus taught his disciples.. Who Am I? Who do you think I am? Do you realize my power and potential? I am more than just a secondary part of God. I am almighty robed in human flesh. This 3-D drama of salvation isn't just a video or movie set, but it is the para- drama theater of Gods salvation. It was the only way that it could be done, the only way that perfect blood could be offered to cleanse the imperfect.

God called it “The Mystery of Godliness”. Its how a God who had no flesh and bones could restore the descendants of Adam and Eve to the New Garden. So when do you think that God fell in love with you and I? The only answer is that he fell in love with his precious offspring who he first created in the garden of Eden. Adam and Eve's fall was not a happy day for God, and yet righteousness had to be upheld. Look at all the pain and sorrow and woes of mankind since that time.

Our only hope is in our God. In Jesus Christ his son of the flesh and in the redemption plan. This is the mystery which hath been hid in God since the beginning; in the creation of all things by Jesus Christ. It is hard for us to know what exact form he had in the beginning, but clearly he had to come by way of Bethlehem when he stepped on the human stage. I think the important thing is to know that the God who was Lord and Savior in the beginning was and is the same as the Lord and Savior here in the end times. Indeed we have fellowship with God only through this mystery of godliness, which is Christ in Us, or being filled with the fullness of God, (Eph 3:19).

Do you want to know what is the mystery of Godliness? Here's the answer: The revelation of God manifesting himself in flesh is the mystery of Godliness.

Galatians 4:4 “But when the fullness of time was come, God sent forth his son made of a woman, made under the law.”

Isaiah 9:6 “For unto us a child is born, a son is given and the government shall be upon his shoulders, and his name shall be called wonderful, counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, and the Prince of Peace.” All one and the same, God incarnate.

Matthew 1:23 And they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted, “God with us”. - for all those who want to understand, who are called of Gods eternal love and purpose, they/we will have the mystery of Godliness hid within us . Indeed the Holy Spirit is our connector to God.

In other words, He the son, received the name and the authority of God. Because he was the Word incarnate. The Word, which was God, became flesh. (John 1:14)

An important Scripture is I Corinthians 44:49: Christ was made an earthly or natural body, but raised a , resurrected a spiritual glorified body after his death, burial and resurrection. First that which is natural, then that which is spiritual. And in fact we also will become a spiritual body. Vs 49; Our spirit will one day, should we be faithful to him, become quickened and fused together with his.

Will the sonship cease its redemptive work? All I have is the scripture I Corinthians 15:24; “then comes the end when he will have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the father, when he shall have vs25 put down all rule and authority and power, for he must reign until he has put all enemies under his feet; vs26 the last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.”

John 8:24 “Except you believe that I am he, you will die in your sins.” That's why we have preachers, teachers and evangelists. John 8:32 “that you may know the truth and the truth will set you free.”

Fossetts Bible Dictionary declares that Jesus means Jehovah-Salvation, or Jehovah has become Savior.

Again Ephesians 4:5 declares there to be only one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and father of all who is above all through all and in you all.

Philippians 2:9-11 Wherefore God also has highly exalted him and given him a name which is above every name. At the name of Jesus every knee shall bow and every tongue confess.

The thief upon the Cross believed in who Jesus was and was saved, caught between two covenants; the old and the new. Thomas cried out when he saw the pierced hands and side of Jesus, “My LORD and my God!”

2 John vs 9 “He that abides in the doctrine of Christ hath both the father and the son”

In conclusion:

God veiled himself before the world in a cloak of humanity. Jesus Christ had a dual nature.

In Jesus, God came to save the sinner from his sins. In the form of man he came all the way from his throne in Glory to a cross on Golgotha's hill.

A beautiful story: How he became a mere man so that he could reach us and as God he can save us.

I John 5:20 says that he has given us an understanding of the Son of God in salvation and “This is the true God and and eternal life.”

If you have surrendered your heart to God, then he will give you knowledge of the mystery of Godliness. God wants you to know a little bit more about his divine love and purpose in your life through understanding the God nature. One day we shall be changed and lifted up to be with Christ forever.

I wrote this thesis upon receiving license to preach the gospel. My disclaimer is that its Christs Gospel, not mine, but only to preach. Certain aspects of the gospel are for spiritual discovery, so please do not think this is all; maybe its only the start of a grand adventure!
