Many People, Many Faiths

What is Religion?

Religion is defined as the belief, cause of good deeds and some real facts in super power over us, who can help guide us and protect us.

There are many religions on this planet but three major religions followed by over a billion people; are Christianity, Muslim, and Hinduism.

Contribution of Religion

The facts and beliefs of each religion are very old and they have a holy book for each of them. There are wise scholars for each religion and are seen narrating to people about their practice.

All Religions enlighten Man and teach him to be Humble and Tolerant. Each Religion has a different way to approach the Supreme Power, God. The paths are different but the end product is the same for all mankind. Man is an intelligent soul to figure out a path of his choice. Once he takes on the path of a particular religion, he follows the ideals and adapts its beliefs and facts. By following a particular religion, man becomes disciplined and it helps him to withstand the challenges of what Life has to throw at him.

Effect of Religion on Man

Man is born and he is in turmoil of many challenges in his journey of life. Life is not easy because he faces ups and down in his day-to-day existence. He needs something to hold on to so, that he can walk steadily and with confidence. This thing that he holds on to is like a cane, which IF given to an old or an ailing man will feel confident to walk around with. This walking stick is sturdy and can assist this old man in many ways. The same way an intelligent man holds on to some age-old facts and beliefs, which is termed as Religion and it becomes his shield against the challenges he comes across in his lifetime.

Religion helps knock the inner conscious of Man. By understanding the respective scriptures and rituals he is able to build his foundation on certain ethics and faith on the Almighty. Each Religion has its own name for the Almighty. Some examples are Allah, Jesus, and Krishna. Man has given many names to the Almighty but God is one.

All Religions preach commitment in their path, which leads to good actions and that helps man climb a step towards enlightenment, which will eventually lead him closer to the Almighty. Let Man learn to develop tolerance for each other's religion that they are following.

Ponder upon...

We all are moving in a circle of life. The Almighty created Man and Man has founded many religions and given many names to it. He has also named God in different ways in their respective religions. The path to enlightenment is different in all religions but the conclusion is the same…one God!

Let us all unite under this roof and stop communal riots because we ALL are the children of one God. United we stand and if divided under different beliefs then we will ALL lose our path towards the main goal that we all are born for...Enlightenment.

Thanks Pam. I agree many people out there are intolerant towards others views and that is very important for mankind's progress.

The message of this hub is so important because I believe you are right. We can each make our own choice as to how we honor God, but being united and respecting the other person with a different belief makes us stronger. This would heal more wounds than anything I can think of and I believe this is an excellent hub. Voted up+++++++

Ruchira (author) from United States on November 28, 2012:

Well said Zionshpere. Thankyou

Thanks Nialee and EinderDarkwolf for your support and belief.

Thanks SilverGenes. Beautiful dialogue.

SilverGenes on November 28, 2012:

A very wise man once began his sermon with the words "We are all gathered together to worship our God, regardless of how or who we perceive our God to be". We are human beings, trying to do the right thing, and the one message that comes through in all religions of the world is to be kind to all of humanity and to do the best job we can while we are here. Anything else is unknowable. Wonderful hub, Ruchira! I'm so glad to have found this.

Ruchira (author) from United States on November 28, 2012:

manatita44 from london on September 04, 2012:

A necessary or essential hub. One love.

IntegrityYes on August 28, 2012:

Many need to read this one often. WOW, Ruchira!

obustudent7 on August 12, 2012:

The Bible clearly states that their is only one way to the Father (God) and that is through Jesus Christ. It is sad to me that people believe that all religions can work together and all be true at the same time. The truth is that nobody knows God except through Jesus and all other teaching is false.

shalini sharan from Delhi on July 29, 2012:

you really read my mind, i same the same thought but could not put it in a better way

Hello Ruchira,

Voting up and awesome!

This article is not only nicely written but has clearly indicated your kind intentions and good thought. The end of the article is very meaningful and impressive. All the thanks for such a good work for a good cause. Sharing it.

Thanks Brett for your vote of confidence. I agree that god is one and we are the energies of him. Beautifully said, indeed :)

NiaLee from BIG APPLE on July 27, 2012:

I do agree with you, love and peace, the way and the purpose. Be kind to yourself and others, respect yourself and others and spread the love, peace and justice.

zionsphere from Oregon on July 02, 2012:

Very true. I don't think it's about religion as much as it's about the relationship you have with your God. Beyond that, what else really matters?

Sean Bradbury from Tempe, A.Z. on June 27, 2012:

Interesting that you took the older gnostic approach in your thought process.

Short but pretty good.

carriethomson from United Kingdom on June 27, 2012:

yes it is true that we are child of one almighty -God......we all are following different religion but ultimate goal of our is to get God ..........

thanks for sharing such a nice topic.........and made us think that whatever if people believe in different religion but there Aim is to get God God

Man from Modesto from Kiev, Ukraine (formerly Modesto, California) on June 27, 2012:

Unfortunately, this is not true. It is a New Age, false teaching. The Muslim god, the Mormon god, and the Christian's Father in Heaven are not the same. The Muslim god is named "Allah" and has a moon + 1 star symbol. This has long been the symbol of those who fought against the people of the God of Abraham. Further, Allilah was the name of the moon goddess of the Kuraysh tribe, the tribe of Mohammed's father. The Mormon god had TWO sons named Satan and Jesus (plus other "sons of the morning"). The Christian's Father in Heaven, before the earth was made, had just ONE "only begotten son", who died on the cross, and was still the ONLY Son of God when he died.

So, you see, there IS only ONE GOD. But, there are many fakes.

Brett C from Asia on June 26, 2012:

Religion, when treated respectfully, does a lot of good. It is just unfortunate that so many use the faith of people to do bad in the world.

One faith I heard of a while back was interesting though. They believe that God is energy and hence a part of all of us ... food for thought ;-).

Sharing, up and interesting.

Ruchira (author) from United States on June 20, 2012:

Thank you Rajan. Yes, any religion we take, it's a channel to reach the almighty.

Thanks Raitu.

Rajan Singh Jolly from From Mumbai, presently in Jalandhar, INDIA. on June 04, 2012:

Like there are numerous ways to reach a destination, there are different ways (religion) to reach a common destination (GOD). Well said, Ruchira.

If we all realize this simple truth of life, we would all live a loving life with one another.

Thanks for sharing.

Well written Hub full of enlightenment! I do believe there is a difference between religion and spirituality. I favor walking in the Light within. Peace, Namaste, Aloha.....Gary.

Mary Craig from New York on May 10, 2012:

To be redundant, you are so right! We are all children of God, no matter what we call Him. It is time to come together. Voted up.

Jamie Brock from Texas on May 10, 2012:

This is an awesome hub.. and I completely agree.. it all leads back to one God.. I once heard a saying that religion is man made but spirituality is not. Also, I completely agree with what Whidbeywriter said above..:) I have always thought that. Voting up and awesome :)

Vinaya Ghimire from Nepal on May 10, 2012:

I believe in religious tolerance.

I liked your analysis of religion, and point of view on the impact of faith in the society and the contribution to the human development.

Mary Gaines from Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island, Washington on May 09, 2012:

Great hub and you are so right there is only one God, and I actually believe in my heart that God never intended religion to be created. Itis man made, God only wanted us to have a loving relationship with him and to love our neighbor as ourselves. When man began to make the rules is when everything started to go in an opposite direction of his will. Blessings.

Cynthia Calhoun from Western NC on May 09, 2012:

Great minds, Ruchira. I have LONG since thought that there are many paths to Enlightenment. The path for me might not be the best path for the next person. But, we are all on a path and I feel like it's our job to find our path so that we all can lead happy, fulfilled lives - under one God, Creator, Great Spirit - or whatever name each of us prefers. This is beautiful!!

Madeleine Salin from Finland on May 09, 2012:

I agree with SweetiePie. This is a very good hub. If everyone had these opinions, I think there wouldn't be so many wars around the world. Voted up!

Ruchira (author) from United States on May 08, 2012:

Thank you happyboomernurse. IF we show compassion towards others, the end result will be very beautiful. Thanks for your kind words.

Hi Angi, Sure we have to pay for our sins and there is no escaping it. Every religion has it's own way of preaching people to be doing good actions. You are right on it, dear :)

Sure, Sweetiepie. I don't think any holy book dictates on how we perceive the lord. Humans are intelligent souls to make the decision but, being tolerant towards other's ideals is the key to happiness. Thanks for stopping by with your valuable comment.

appreciate your 3 inputs...cheers!

SweetiePie from Southern California, USA on May 07, 2012:

I think everyone should have their own faith and beliefs. However, I am skeptical of organized religion in general because I do not need someone else telling me how I can have a relationship with God. Going on a walk and looking at nature in the forest is all I need to know about God's creation.

anglnwu on May 07, 2012:

I agree that religion teaches many good things and there's one Supreme God. I guess where I differ is the way to the one true God. I believe that the way to Heaven is through forgiveness of sins and Christ paid for that on the cross. Having said that, that doesn't mean I'm intolerant of other religions. That's just my take. Thanks for sharing and rated up.

Gail Sobotkin from South Carolina on May 06, 2012:

Your kind, compassionate, wise heart shines through in this hub reminding us all to align with God and love and respect each other.

Thank you Ruby and Peggy.

Yes, we all complete a circle of life and we ought to be responsible to each other.

Many have lost their lives 'cause of non-tolerance for other religions and many are still losing their life each day...sad but true fact and I hope and pray we realize that their is no gain out of it.

Thank you ladies for your beautiful insight...appreciate it!

Good to hear that, Rahul. wishing you peace, my friend...cheers!

Hi John, I am glad you agree with the above. Hinduism is almost everywhere but majority in Asia. I had to make it short 'cause this was real heavy stuff and did not want to bore my audience :) Thanks for stopping by!

I absolutely LOVED this hub. Its true, There are many religions, but there is only one god. One being that created everything. I fully believe this because I do not really believe in religion, but almost all religions believe in only ONE person. great hub!

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on April 23, 2012:

I wrote a comment earlier but it's not showing up so I'll say this again: I wasn't going to read hubs today because of my work load but saw your name pop up and that changed my mind and schedule. Love your hubs and this one is quite good my friend.

Like Mary, I also agree with you 100%. It is so sad that there have been so many wars throughout history and many of them executed in the name of religion. Happy to vote this up, useful and happy to share and tweet.

I loved the fact that we are all in 'the circle of life' So very true. I accept the fact that people have different beliefs. We are all one, just as there is only one God. May the world see this truth and unite in love..Thank you Ruchira. I loved this hub...

I was actually thinking of doing a hub on religions but you beat me to it and I have no doubt yours is much better than what I would have written. Well done my friend; I did not intend to visit any other hubs today so I could get my work done for customers, but the name Ruchira pops up and I have to read.

your friend,

I agree! There is only power... above all... the PARMATMA or the prime soul... the almighty... the SAI... all paths lead to him... he is omnipresent and looking at his children all the time

I follow SAI BABA of Shiridi and base my principles strongly upon his words about patience belief and compassion!

Great Hub!

I couldn't agree with you more! There are many religions, but only ONE GOD. I love that video. Great Hub. I'll vote it UP, etc.
