Ostara Spells and Magic
The season of spring is upon us, and while it may not feel like it, we are at the dawn of the light half of the year! Seasonal celebrations of spring can really help shake off the winter doldrums. What better way to celebrate the season than with a little bit of magic? After all, the equinoxes have some pretty intense energies that we can tap and put to use in our own lives.
Here is some magical ideas for your Ostara celebration.
Since day and night are equal on Ostara, it's a good time for some spells involving balance. This is especially true if the equinox falls on a full moon.
If it's a new or waxing moon, it's a prime time for spells to give your new efforts, projects, plans or even new relationships a tremendous boost in the right direction. This timing help get them off to the right start.
If the sabbat happens to fall at a time when the moon is waning, it's better to focus on cutting things loose that weren't working for you, wrapping things up and pushing away from things that have you bogged down. Get rid of anything that is acting like an anchor on your life so that you can move forward, unfettered.
Spring is here, which usually means love is in the air. It's a good time for spells to draw love and romance into your life, or to enhance your beauty and attractiveness for the season when the birds and bees get buzzing. Plan these workings on a Friday closes to the equinox, preferably during a waxing moon or when the moon is in Venus.
Ostara Incense Recipe
- 2 tbsp. copal, well ground
- 1 tbsp. dragon’s blood, ground well
- 1/2 tsp dried violet petals
- ½ tsp dried citrus peel
Mix all ingredients well with a mortar and pestle then burn them on incense charcoal in your censor. Perfect to welcome the spring, refresh your home (open all windows to burn while airing it out), or burn it at the Ostara ritual.
Ostara Potion for a Romantic Night:
Open a bottle of red wine, or substitute cran-grape juice for a non-alcoholic option.
- Add 3 tsp. of honey
- Add 9 leaves of lemon balm
- Add a small pinch of dried ground chili pepper
Re-cap the bottle, turn it upside-down and swirl it clockwise, chanting:
Passions stir, inhibitions slip,
the heart beguile with each sip
Share it with your lover on a romantic evening.
Ostara Herbs, Flowers, Trees and Roots
|acorn, broom, crocus, daffodil, elder, honeysuckle, jasmine, lemon balm, lilac, lily, lovage, marjoram, oak, orris root, thyme, tansy, tulip, violets, willow.|
Magical Ostara Potpourri
Consecrate and charge the following herbs with energies of love, peace and balance:
- A handful of fresh lemon balm
- Orange peel
- Jasmine blossoms
Throw them in a potpourri crockpot, or in cauldron or pot on your stove. Simmer to infuse your home with magical energies of the season.
Use Eggs for Ostara Magic
A Wealth of Information
You Will need:
- 4 eggs
- herbs for natural egg dyes
Make four natural egg dyes by boiling water and steeping the herbs for a couple of hours. Then strain, and allow the eggs to soak in them overnight.
Bring the herbs to your garden and head to the easternmost point. Hold up the green egg and say: Powers of East, verdant and fertile, may you bless this sacred garden with your abundance.
Bury the green egg in the East. Walk to the southernmost point and hold up the red egg. Say: Powers of the South, energy and transformation, may you shine your warmth on this sacred garden.
Bury the red egg. Walk to the westernmost point and hold up the blue egg. Say: Powers of the West, nourishing and nurturing, may you quench this sacred garden's thirst.
Bury the blue egg. Walk to the northernmost point and hold up the yellow egg. Say: Powers of the North, ethereal breath of life, may your gentle breezes carry pollinators across this sacred garden.
Bury the yellow egg. Walk back to the East to complete the boundary.

Ostara Crystals, Gems and Metals
|agate, amozonite, bloodstone, clear quartz, garnet, green moss agate, lapis lazuli, moonstone, rose quarts, silver.|
This Ostara Is a Great Night for Charging!
If you have tools, crystals, jewelry or any items you would like to charge with powerful energies, then there is probably no better time than when a new moon, super moon, solar eclipse and equinox are occurring simultaneously.
After cleansing and preparing your objects, set them out the night before Ostara on the 19th. Place them outdoors or on a windowsill and leave them there until March 21, letting a full 24 hour cycle pass.
Then wrap them and put them away until you need them.
Magic Mirror on the Wall
Mirror Beauty Spell
All you need for this spell is a darkened room, a pink candle, and a mirror. Light the candle, shut the lights, ground and center yourself. Meditate a few moments to bring yourself into the alpha state.
Place the candle between yourself and the mirror. Soften your gaze and upon your reflection, chanting:
I am she, she is me,
Lovely Lady, let your beauty shine through
Sit like this for as long as you can hold the meditation. You will not notice some drastic change; don't expect magical plastic surgery. But your entire being will begin to glow with an aura of your own unique beauty, bringing out your best features, beaming with divine energy.
Tell Us About You?
Lucky Rabbit Charm
You don't need a rabbit's foot for luck-- just any rabbit symbol will do if you enchant it.
Pick up a cute statue or picture of a rabbit. Cleanse, consecrate and charge it at your Ostara altar to bring you luck. You can leave it there on your altar to always operate in your life, or place it somewhere in your home, garden or business.
