In the Beginning God created the heavens and the earth is the first verse of scripture that we find upon opening up the bible. But even before creation began the bible gives us key information on the chaotic condition of the earth. It was without form, void and darkness was upon the face of the deep. Midnight is a dark time not only in a physical way but also in the form of a metaphor relating to a dark time in a persons life. God in Genesis 1 equated a 24 hour day beginning with evening. The evening and the morning were the first day. People many times equate a 24 hour day beginning with morning. The morning and evening equals 1 day. Psalm 30:5 declares weeping endures for a night but joy comes in the morning. Evenings are dark times, testing times, times that cause tears of pain which may be but not limited to family, finance or physical and spiritual devastation. But one minute after midnight is morning time, a turning point and a time of breakthrough and victory. In Genesis each day of creation ended with morning a time of blessing because God expressed it by saying it was good.
WHAT IS THE MEANING OF MIDNIGHT IN THE BIBLE?
- · Midnight is the darkest hour before day
- · It is the turning point from one season to another
- Since it is a turning point God is concerned where our mindset is because he cannot pour new wine into old wine skins or in other words he cannot bless his people when they have the same old unproductive mindset. Midnight which is also a time of testing being the darkest hour of a person’s life will reveal a person’s mindset.
· THE WORLD’S MIND IS CONSTANTLY CHANGING THIS IS WHY WE ARE NOT TO BE CONFORMED TO THIS WORLD (ROM.12:2). GOD WANTS US TO BE SINGLE MINDED HAVING A MIND THAT DOESN’T CHANGE. GOD HAS NOT CHANGED HIS MIND SO WHY DO SO MANY CHANGE THEIRS? HE HAS NOT CHANGED HIS MIND ACCORDING TO HIS WORD ABOUT HIS PROMISES. NUMBERS 23:19A GOD IS NOT A MAN THAT HE SHOULD LIE.
WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR MIDNIGHT? EVERYONE, EVEN JESUS EXPERIENCED TROUBLE AS SOON AS HE WAS BORN INTO THE WORLD.
WHY DOES GOD ALLOW MIDNIGHTS? TO SHOW US WHERE OUR MINDSET IS.
GOD’S DAYS = BLESSINGS THAT COME FROM HIS CREATIVE HAND BEGIN WITH NIGHT (THE EVENING AND THE MORNING WERE THE FIRST DAY)
Midnight! A clue it's time for blessing
Years ago there was a commercial out on television that asked the question it is 11:00 do you know where your children are? The intent of the ad was to cause parents to think and become responsible for their children. It was important that if the blessing of having a healthy and happy home was to occur, then a proper mindset had to become established. God is also deeply concerned about the mindset of his people so he declares to let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.
Man is a tri-part being made up of spirit soul (mind will emotions) and body. The spirit of man is the part of humankind that is made in the image and likeness of God because John 4:24 declares that God is a Spirit. When a person becomes born again (John 3) it is the spirit of the person that becomes new (2 Corinthians 5:17). The mind of a person must be transformed (Romans 12:2) through diligent Bible study. If this does not happen the world will continue to be filled with people who have a form of godliness but deny the power thereof.
WHAT’S THIS MIDNIGHT THING ALL ABOUT?
I’m glad you asked (smile); God will use midnights in a person’s life to reveal to them where their mindset is. Midnight in the bible was not only a time of night, but certain things happened during that time which was beneficial to the individual. Even though it was the darkest time in the person’s life, it was also a turning point for bigger and brighter things. The brighter things could not be obtained if the individual’s mindset had not been changed to God’s specifications. A biblical example of what I am talking about can be seen in Acts 16 where at midnight Paul and Silas were beaten and thrown in prison, but their darkest hour revealed their positive mindset which was to pray and sing praises to God to the point of not even caring that the other prisoners heard them. The other option they could have chosen was to murmur and complain which would have stopped God from sending his earthquake to let them out of prison and save the jailor and his family. Another example can be seen in Judges 16:3 that says and Samson lay till midnight and arose at midnight and took the doors of the gate of the city and the two post and went away with them bar and all and put them upon his shoulders and carried them up to the top of an hill that is before Hebron.
Samson’s enemies the Philistines were trying to sneak up on him to capture him which parallels his darkest hour at that time in his life. His turning point came when he arose at midnight, because had he remained asleep he would have been captured by his enemies. For Christians today it is important to have the mindset to remain active and awake for God. Proverbs talks about waking out of one’s sleep (spiritually) which causes a person to become lazy and lethargic toward the things of God.
Midnights can zap the strength and joy out of a person to the point of not wanting to go to church, not to pray or even read the bible. But a proper mindset understands these things are a must to remain prepared for the turning point. Samson experienced supernatural strength from God during his midnight experience that was the turning point to stop the plans of his enemies to do him harm. Likewise today Christians need supernatural strength in the form of joy to stop the Enemies plans. Nehemiah 8:10 declares the joy of the Lord is our strength.
PRACTICAL POINTS ABOUT MIDNIGHTS:
· JESUS SAID IN THE WORLD WE SHALL HAVE TRIBULATION (TROUBLE) BUT TO BE OF GOOD CHEER BECAUSE HE HAD OVERCOME THE WORLD.
· DON’T ALLOW TROUBLE TO EMOTIONALLY DRIVE TOWARD AN IMMEDIATE SOLUTION.
· STAY IN THE WORD OF GOD WHICH PREPARES ONE TO GAIN A KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT TO DO, HOW TO BEHAVE, PROPER ATTITUDE, ETC.
· WHAT SEEMS TO BE THE DARKEST HOUR AT THE MOMENT IS REALLY A TURNING POINT FOR A BREAKTHROUGH OF BIGGER AND BRIGHTER THINGS FROM GOD.

Exodus 11:4 - And Moses said, Thus saith the LORD, About midnight will I go out into the midst of Egypt:
Moses said, "Thus says the LORD, 'About midnight I am going out into the midst of Egypt, and all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of the Pharaoh who sits on his throne, even to the firstborn of the slave girl who is behind the millstones; all the firstborn of the cattle as well.…
For the Israelites God’s people, midnight was a dream come true. After 430 years in bondage this was the time they were about to finally be free, liberated from all of the abuse, disappointments and frustrations that they had to endure from generation to generation. Life can bring problems that seem to never end, but it is during those times of weakness, tiredness, thinking about giving up, the time that Psalm 30:5 speaks of… the time of weeping during the night but one minute after 12 is morning where there will be joy. It was just before midnight that God gave Moses instruction for his people that needed to be obeyed if they were going to benefit from their midnight. They were to take a spotless male lamb and sacrifice it taking the blood and putting it over the door post and lintel of their homes. There will always be instructions that must be obeyed by the Christian if they are going to benefit from their midnight. For Israel not to apply the blood would cause the death angel to kill the firstborn of their home along with the Egyptians. Everyone in the world we live has midnights just as the Israelites had with Egypt, But for Egypt midnight was a nightmare while it was a blessing for Israel. Egypt is a type of sin and bondage so the world looks for other props during their midnights such as drugs alcohol, money and other things in order to cope with it. The Christian has faith knowing that God is going to bring freedom.
- No matter how long you have been going through your midnight, God promises to give his joy immediately after in the morning.
- Midnights will always come with God’s instructions that must be obeyed
- Midnight is the Christians blessing while being a nightmare for the non-Christian
- Midnight is an indication that freedom is about to take place
Ruth 3:8 - At midnight the man was startled and turned over, and behold, a woman lay at his feet!
It happened in the middle of the night that the man was startled and bent forward; and behold, a woman was lying at his feet. He said, "Who are you?" And she answered, "I am Ruth your maid. So spread your covering over your maid, for you are a close relative."…
Boaz was a type of Christ in that he was Ruth's kinsman redeemer. The word redeem is a financial term meaning to buy back. That's what is meant in Galatians 3:13-14 for the Christian when it says Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law being made a curse for us. The curse was threefold in the form of poverty, sickness and death (Spiritual as well).Christ took the full penalty for sin on the cross and bought the Christian back. Jesus is the Christians covering just as Boaz was for Ruth. Notice that Ruth was lying at the feet of Boaz, a position of humility and when she was asked who she was she revealed her identity. Midnight has a way of positioning a person in the right place at the right time because they finally know who they are.Midnights will reveal the character of a person and reveal limitations and strengths that were previously unknown. A person must know who they are so they can know where they are and where they are going. In the book of Genesis 3:9 God called Adam (identity) and said where are you? because he could go no further until he could answer that question. Practically speaking singles should take note...Ruth found her Boaz at midnight! Midnight for singles is they feel they are going to be too old before they find the right one, everyone else is married, they are tired of being lonely, all of the good ones are taken, but when God does send Boaz a single must know who they are so they can already be a whole person and not depend on Boaz to make them whole. They should already be positioned with a good job or career etc as well as having that special relationship with God.
