The Real Global Warming: Lukewarm Christians!

One of the great lies of today is global warming. With over 20 years of data that has been collected there has been no proof that global warming is real. The global warming push has been demonstrated to be fraudulent and is nothing more than an economical political movement. However, there is a global warming that is happening at this very moment that is very real. Temperature is a very important issue in your Christian life. This post is not going to apply to everyone but everyone who reads this should examine their life and see if this issue pertains to them. If it does apply to you as it did to me then just repent. Revelations chapter 3 verse 14:

'And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; 15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. 16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. 17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: 18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. 19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. 20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. 21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. 22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches."

Be more than hearers of God's Word

When we read God's word. It should change us, not just tickle our ears.

When we read God's word. It should change us, not just tickle our ears.

Going to Church alone won't fix lukewarmness

Getting to the root of a lukewarm Christian is going to take some self examination.

The Church of Laodicea: The lukewarm church in the Bible

What is left of the church of Laodicea: Not as God's Punishment. What we as Christians today should learn about the church of Laodicea is that this life is going to fade away one day.

Being Lukewarm Says "I need nothing!"

For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked. ~Revelations 3:17

God's Mirror

God's Word should be the mirror we use to show us the things we need to change in our lives to avoid becoming lukewarm.

The Heart of the Lukewarm Christian

Let God help daily, we always will need God!!

Let God help daily, we always will need God!!

Re-wire your Heart!

Change the way your heart thinks by letting God;s Word Change you

Change the way your heart thinks by letting God;s Word Change you

Lukewarm Christianity starts with duty instead of relationship.

Reading the Bible should not be a philosophical pursuit or an exercise in academia. The purpose of God's word is to shows who God is and show us who we really are, to align ourselves to the God we will face on Judgment Day. James 1:22 - '.. be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.' Some of the most deceived people on the planet sit in churches every Sunday. Profoundly deceived because thinking that because they hear the word, that makes them right with God. It is astonishing how many Christians are not doers of the word. Blatantly and willfully dismiss God's commands because they would rather do something else. The Scripture and James continues with verse 23 and 24 '23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.' The purpose of the word is to show you who you are. God's word is a mirror. When you look in a mirror you see the problems. For example, when you get up in the morning and look in the mirror, do you just say 'yeah that'll do'. With your hair all jacked up bed head in the smell of drool still on your face? No, the whole purpose of looking in the mirror is to fix yourself up. Ladies have an advantage because they get to use makeup. As a man, we do what we can and sometimes that doesn't entail very much. LOL :). So, in James Chapter 1, God is telling us that the person that reads God's word and does not apply to the life is like someone waking up, looking in the mirror and not doing anything about the way they look as they go off to their job interview.

Hebrews 4 verse 12 'For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.' The word of God is not just an information center. God's Word is alive. If you read God's word everyday you will find that the book is fresh and brand-new everyday that you read it. The Bible is God's scalpel and he uses on us to do spiritual heart surgery. God's word or the Bible, says that it is a 'discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.' When someone has a real heart surgery it can save their life physically. God's word is sharper than any two-edged sword, it is this blade that will save our lives spiritually. Sometimes you may read something in God's word and not want to do it because it reveals who we really are inside. But you have got to face who you are and let God help you. Otherwise, the hidden killer of sin will take you out.

2 Corinthians 13:5 ' Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified.' In this text, Paul challenges us to place our lives under the examining light of God's word. Not to just look at ourselves but hold our lives to a standard. The problem with today, his Christians act like they have never read the word of God. They have the same problems and issues as people of the world. That is why sometimes, people in the world find it hard to follow Christ. Because they can't see a difference in the lives of the so-called Christians and their lives. The problem is some Christians won't allow the word of God to impact their lives in a way that produces change. If you can sit in your church and hear your pastor preached day in and day out and not allow the word of God to impact you, you are a heathen and need to repent now. Amen! 'Almost Christians', don't go to heaven. If you can sit and listen to the word of God and it never tweaks you, never changes you, and never confronted by the word of God, never driven to your knees to say 'oh my God forgive me!' If that never happens to you, you need is saved today. Better now than tomorrow, because you don't know if you be alive tomorrow, no one does.

The goad that God uses to help Christians that are Lukewarm: The Bible

Ecclesiastes 12: 11 The words of the wise are like goads, and the words of scholars are like well-driven nails, given by one Shepherd. What the word of God does is it cast light into the dark places of our heart. We all have dark places in our heart. We all have things in our hearts that need exposure. Let the word of God enlighten you. A goad was a sharp iron hook attached to a long oak beam. A farmer would carry this goad behind his ox with the plow attached. When the ox would get to the end of the field, the farmer would have to change the course of the ox by smacking the ox with the goad on the shoulder. This would cause the ox to turn around and walk in the correct direction. What the Scripture is saying in Ecclesiastes, is that we are to treat our pastors as messengers as they preach sermons to us to get us back on track and pointing in the right direction. If your attitude towards the preaching of your pastor is just a 'blah blah blah....'. you might as well just go fishing. Because if the word of God doesn't change you is just tickling your religious ears. Unfortunately, you'll die religious. Which will not save your soul. In our text, God is confronting something that will kill you. If you don't take this seriously, chances are we will not see you in heaven. The reason why, is Jesus himself says that there is a temperature problem within the church of Laodicea (lukewarm church). There is a cooling taking place that you have to address. You have to understand that the word of God is true. Let God be true and every man a liar. When God confronts you he is faithful, especially through sermon. When you're sitting in your comfortable church chair and suddenly it's not comfortable anymore. That is God's faithfulness. If you feel like someone's reading your diary and you begin to feel that very uncomfortable conviction.

Understand, that this is our faithful God, convicting you because of the love he has for you. He wants us on the right track. Through God's word he is trying to save us and redeem us through the covenant given to us by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. What God's says is far more reliable than all the talking heads on the planet. The church of Laodicea, is thought to be the character of the church in the last days. If this is true, it would have direct application to the culture of today. The things that Jesus warns the Laodicean church about, a rampant consumerism, mindsets that are contrary to the kingdom of God. The mindsets that were present in the Laodicean church are very much like the mindsets we have today.

Jesus knows our works, he knows exactly where we are in our walk with God. He is watching us, he is aware of us even though we may not be aware of him. He tells the church that they are neither cold nor hot. That is the most dangerous spiritual climate that you ever find yourself. That is the worst spiritual condition a Christian can be in, unfortunately I believe it describes many, many Christians. Because here's a Christian who is in cold, they're not backslidden. For so many Christians that's the watermark, 'I'm not backslidden, I'm still Christian' the problem with being lukewarm is you're not cold. Isn't it interesting that Jesus says 'I would rather you be cold'. Cold enough to feel the spiritual death grip in your life. Cold enough to know that there something wrong. The danger now, is you're able to say 'I'm just warm enough to have need of nothing'. That's what the Laodicean church said 'we are good, we have need of nothing, and everything is just fine'. In reality, we are in need of grace every second of our life. Understand, it is not enough that you're not cold. The problem is, you are lukewarm. Why is it that Christians get really defensive when someone asks 'hey, what's going on in your life man?' Have you ever noticed how defensive people get when each scratch the surface. Jesus is saying that being lukewarm is more dangerous than being backslidden. If you are backslidden you would know it, the problem with being lukewarm is you don't know it. Our great need is to let the word of God examine our heart's.

Lukewarm Christian Test: Are you to any degree cooler than you ever were?

That is the starting point to self-examination. The lie is,' everyone cools off'. I beg to differ, that is a lie. There are plenty of people, elderly people in their 80s that are just as zealous as they were when they were in their 20s. Caleb in his 80s said give me my mountain. The Holy Spirit is the fire of our lives and he isn't going anywhere and if He is cooling-off, It's not by necessity, it is by neglect. Remember I am not speaking of every one, I am talking about you. Don't worry about who this applies to, examine yourself today. The purpose of examining yourself under God's word is to check your temperature. Are you by any measure cooler than you once were at any time? If not, why aren't you still on fire?

What temperature constitutes lukewarm Christians

I what temperature are we lukewarm. All we know is lukewarm is cooler than a hot. Everyone has different thermostats. What you think is hot might be cold to God. If at one time you are on fire for God and have begun to cool off, at what point does that cooling become lukewarm? There is not really a gauge between hot, cold, and lukewarm. Have you ever wondered about the thermostat wars that go on between you and your wife? Why did God make men and women in this way? LOL:). Why is it that my wife is cold when it's 90°? Why is it that am not cool until it's below 70? At bedtime she's got a pile of blankets, and as men we are throwing the blankets off of us. The point is this, we don't really have an accurate way to measure hot and cold. Everyone has a different gauge. God says when you hit his lukewarm point he is spewing you out of his mouth. That means you are puke. It means that you are distasteful, intolerable, and rejected by God. What does that mean to you? God says if you keep letting this cooling process continue in your life, you will reach a point when God is done. You need to let those words bother you. Can you look at your life in the light of this text and say I'm not on fire. Can you live with that and continue to live your life like everything's okay. The intention of this post is not condemnation but to bring you to a point where you can have an honest self-examination. Remember, you can gauge temperature by how much ministry you're doing, it's not by works. You measured by the depth of love that you have for God. As well as your love for people, hunger for holiness and righteousness. The slightest sin used to bother you. Now you pile it on high and deep. The worst part is, it doesn't even affect you.

If you find yourself in the category of lukewarm Christians. The answer is simple, repent of whatever send you been holding onto, ask for forgiveness. Push away anything that tries to draw you away from Christ. And don't forget to use God's word as a mirror. Take care and God bless!

Thank you for reminding all of us that even cold is better than lukewarm. Lukewarm is compromising, lukewarm is deluded, lukewarm is having lost your passion for Jesus Christ, who died, was buried and rose again so you could be saved. Arise you sleepers! Shake off your slumber, do those things you did before your heart hardened. Gather in extra oil! Prepare yourselves for the return of our Lord.

God bless you jagged81 for being another voice in the wilderness.

I like the term you used - "'Almost Christians". Your analogies are wonderful. You really bring it home when you say, "That means you are puke", in reference to us not getting right with God. Great hub. Thank you for writing it.

Kathy Henderson from Pa on August 04, 2012:

Good reminders to those who know the Christ. We must hold one another accountable or the temperature will become quite cold and unwelcoming to those who do not know HIM. Great Hub :)
