Lord Siddhi Vinayaka

Lord Vinayaka, the great god of Hinduism, is humbly adorned by the Hindu people from all over the world in their daily life. He is the elder son of Lord Shiva and has significance in almost all the Hindu temples of the world. Ganesh, Vignesh, Ganapathy and Pillayar are the other names of this God. Vinayaka means one who has no leader and he is the leader of all devas and Vignesh means that he is the god of averting obstacles. Here vigna means obstacles. Ganesh or Ganapathy means that he is the captain of all good forces. The mouse is the vehicle of Lord Vinayaka. In his every temple there would be an idol of mouse placed in front of him. The people suffering from malefic planets will worship him to get successful life.. Lord Vinayaka's Moola Mantra is 'Om Gam Ganapataye Namaha'.

Lord Vinayaka differs from other Hindu gods with an elephant face and big belly. He attracts all the people and even the people belonging to the other religions . The trunk of his elephant face is resembling the Tamil script 'OM' and it is believed that meditating his elephant face will produce favorable results in our daily activities.

The Hindu people are used to write his associated script before writing any thing on the top of the paper as they are celebrating him as the God of averting obstacles. Whenever the students are preparing to go to exams, they will pray Vinayaka to get high marks. The people starting new companies or shops will celebrate this god to get success and easily acheive their goal.

Lord Vinayaka has temples everywhere in India. The temple of him usually situated under a pupil tree or on the bank of a river. Hence he is the god of poor people his temples are found in the all parts of the country.

The story of Lord Vinayaka

The following story is about the birth and how he came to have an elephant head. Once Goddess Shakthi wanted to take bath in her home after making Lord Ganesh out of white mud by her spiritual power. She told him not to allow any body inside. Then Lord Shiva came home and stopped by Vinayaka. Lord Shiva got angry and cut off his head as he thought that Vinayaka was an outsider. When Goddess Shakthi came to know this she became very sad. To console her Lord Shiva ordered his servants to bring a head of any creature that might be sleeping its head facing north. The servants went on their mission and found only an elephant in that position. The elephant's head was brought before Lord Shiva. The Lord then joined the elephant's head to the body of Lord Vinayaka,. Shiva blessed his son and ordained the annual worship of Lord Vinayaka.

Vinayaka Chaturti

This is the great Hindu festival which comes on 4th new moon day of August or September of every year. In the evening of that day people will decorate the idol (made of mud) or the picture of Lord Vinayaka with flowers and garlands and present him three varieties of fruits, pot roasted rice flakes, grams, boiled grams and steam boiled flour recipe with the ingredients of coconut pieces, sugar and cardamom. The next day people will immerse the idols in a pond or river.

On that day we can see same giant idols of the Lord Vinayaka placed in the important corners of the cities and towns. The public people are allowed to worship Lord Vinayaka. On the second or third day of the festival all the giant idols will be collected collected and placed on the lorries for a procession along the important streets of the cities and towns. The procession will finally reach the pond or sea to immerse the idols of Vinayaka.

Ganesha, the elephant headed God, is the final presiding deity of UTTARASHADA nakshatra. Ganesha is the only deity with an elephant's head. The story behind his getting an elephant's head reveals a lot relating to Uttarashadha's essence . Ganesha is always portrayed as having a fll right tusk and a cut left tusk. This symbolises that Uttarashadha has a more complete and coherent energy in comparison to its mate Purvashadha. Ganesha can thus be seen as being strongly connected to both Ashadhas. Ganesha is seen as the "Lord of Beginnings" and "Remover of Obstacles" and his blessings are sought in all beginnings.

Uttarashadha therefore relates to all kinds of beginnings. It is seen that activities started under the positive influence of this nakshatra are blessed with success and permanence.

See my dear readers, Ganesh is a personification of Uttarashada nakshatra which belongs to sagittarius zodiac sign. The ruler of sagittarius is JUPITER, the planet of wisdom and optimism. Ganesha is also the God of wisdom and new beginnings. Can you see the link?

If jupiter is in the 1st house of the natal chart of a person, his body appearance will be fleshy and fat. Same as Lord ganesha who is always depicted with a tummy and never thin!!!

Dear Agro, Thanks for your nice comments and sharing great thoughts. I am also believing that God is only one and He loves all humans who are living honest. I am going to publish some more hubs about Hindu Gods in future.

Agro Donkey from Ohio on June 12, 2008:

I learned a lot from this hub and am glad that I took the time to read it. I would identify myself as Christian but that is misleading. I don't feel that there is only one way to pray or only one religion that is correct. I feel that God has shown himself to almost all people in a way that they will understand His message. The message is what matters not how you get to it or who you give credit for it. I hope to read more about your beliefs in the future. Best of luck to you in all that you do.

Dear Sir (Dr. Prasad Jain ), Thanks for your more information about Lord Vinayaka !

Dr.S.P.PADMA PRASAD from Tumkur on April 24, 2008:

 I would like to add;

1.Ganesha/Vinayaka, according to folkloristic analysis, is the god of crops. All his body parts are of vegiterian animals only(elephant, and man),The snake around his huge stomach and the mouse indicate crop destroyers. He curbs one und4r his feet and another by tying around his stomach. The dishes offered to him are also all vegeterian foods.

  2 Other names of Ganesha are-Gajanana,Gowrisutha,Vignesha, Ekadantha,Sumukha,Mooshikavaaahana,etc.

3Ganesha idols are seen in other countries also,like-Indonesia, Malaya, Japan, etc. That is by the influence of hindus who went there.

ratnaveera (author) from Cumbum on March 10, 2008:

Sorry Sankar, I don't know the correct answer. Soon I will try to tell it.
