Living a Life of Worship

Pastoral Counselor ordained Elder/Minister Ambassador at Alpha 7 Ministries M.A. Christian Clinical Counseling Certified in Creation Therapy

Let's Worship the LORD

What To Do When Trials Come

God created us to live a life of worship. Worship was never meant to just take place on a certain day or place. Nor was it ever meant to be orchestrated, contrived, nor artificial or unnatural in any way. Worship & Praise should be a part of our everyday life. Worship is not so much just about how one “feels.” It is demonstrating how we love, adore and appreciate God for who He is! True worship springs from a heart that is devoted to God. Yes, it is good to come together to worship the Lord as well.

GOD the FATHER, our LORD & SAVIOR CHRIST JESUS and HIS HOLY SPIRIT HIS COMFORTER should always be the main focus during our private and corporate worship. For this is the time we take time to commune with GOD.

GOD wants us to have an abundant life in every way. Even in the midst of a trial. Spend time with the Lord in His Word. "Draw nigh to GOD and He will draw nigh to you." He wants our Joy in Him to be our strength. In the Lord there is always HOPE!

We in our selves have no power. Via His indwelling Holy Spirit, we access His power. Together if or when we are truly on one accord we can really “magnify” the Lord together! This really is why we come together to fellowship and worship. It is during this type of corporate or should I say community worship we can nurture an atmosphere that welcomes the infilling presence of His Holy Spirit. All can benefit when we sincerely invite the infilling presence of the Lord within, around us, and all about us. As we sincerely worship and praise Him, we lift HIM UP! WE will see; Deliverance and healing will take place. Together while worshiping in "Spirit and in Truth" this is or can also become a means or catalyst when His Spirit draws unbelievers…

Always keep in mind God knows if our praise is authentic or not. Quite often it is more important to impress others rather than to sincerely express oneself to God. It really is not how things appear. God knows all of our hearts and our true intentions. Quite often some, not all, settle for a surface superficial worship and relationship with the Lord. Worship should have a balance. So let the Spirit of God lead you.

Worship can be filled with vigorous crescendo moments of dancing clapping, singing, shouting, lifting your hands, prophesying and... But there also needs to be moments of andante` calmness, moderate stillness and time in between to maybe simply a pianissimo "BE STLL & KNOW." Just don't be a robot... Learn to worship in your own natural God given way. So, take time to pace yourself and stay on one accord prompted by the Spirit of the Lord. Therefore "Grieve not the HOLY SPIRIT" nor "QUENCH the HOLY SPIRIT" Ephesians 4 & I Thessalonians 5

Always keep in mind. "GOD is NOT the AUTHOR of confusion" I Corinthians 14

Some know how to “do church” but do not really realize that God wants us to daily walk in the Truth of His Word. Many have learned to “go to church,” then go right back to a quite worldly lifestyle. Worship at times becomes an escape or a time to physically unwind, but not necessarily allow the Spirit to move you to a place of increased inner peace. Worship is also a time when genuine "deliverance" can take place. Please don’t get me wrong. You don’t have to have an unhappy, legalistic, rigid lifestyle in order to praise God. Whatever you do. "DO it as unto the LORD." & "WORSHIP the LORD in the beauty of HOLINESS."

May the JOY of the LORD be your STRENGTH

As believers it is very important to have an ever-growing personal intimate up close and personal relationship with the Lord. “The JOY of the Lord is our strength.” We can have fun and really enjoy many things in life… His joy is not contingent upon our circumstances. Our positions in life can change at any time. Yet, HIS HOLY SPIRIT is available 24/7 to take us to a higher level of functioning, joy, grace and increased spiritual growth.

As we grow spiritually as His children, His purpose should become our purpose. (I must warn you, you will be misunderstood and persecuted when you choose to please God rather than man.) On the other hand, God will give us HIS “peace that surpasses the understanding of man.”

You do not have to become gravely discouraged or dismayed in life when a trial comes your way. If, or when you do, begin to seek fulfillment in knowing who you are in Jesus Christ. He knows the path through whatever you are going through… I assure you if you begin to sincerely praise God right where you are regardless of what is going on in your life you will begin to feel and see things differently.

PRAISE GOD wherever you are

Remember you can Praise the Lord right where you are without even uttering a word. It is important to keep in mind that only GOD is SOVEREIGN! Meaning He is Supreme and more than able, everything is under HIS CONTROL! God will give you, "beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD." Isaiah 61 Keep in mind ALL of God’s promises are true!

KNOW GOD and HIS WORD for yourself! See how HIS Apostles/Disciples lived a daily life of worship wherever they were... They were in the world but not of the world. Many of the ways of the world have nested themselves in the midst of GOD'S CHURCH!

We must sincerely make every effort to daily “Walk in the Light” of GOD'S WORD. We are to let our lights shine in this world. The world in general is constantly moving away from the principles of God's world! Much of the world has entered GOD'S CHURCH. In these perilous times, "THE WHEAT and the tares are growing together." Yes, be aware, but fret not! PRAY for DISCERNMENT! It only takes a little LIGHT to dispel darkness. "HALLLELLLUJAH ANYHOW!!!" As His children no matter how young or old we are we need a Savior!

ABBA FATHER GOD THANK YOU FOR SETTING US FREE!! "For it is in you that we live and move and have our being..." Acts 17

God allows everyone the freedom to choose. Jesus came to earth, adorned in a body of sinless flesh and lived a sinless life, was crucified, died and was buried. He is the RESURRECTION! He overcame death and overcome sin in the flesh for us to show us the WAY! Once we accept Him into our hearts, then we are to “GO” forth living lives of worship and proclaiming the Gospel which is the “GOOD NEWS” of JESUS CHRIST to this world! Live each day to please God. And You will become like "a tree that is planted by the streams of water, which will yield fruit in its season..." PSALMS 1

God is worthy of our praise!

"Let the name of the Lord be praised, both now and forever more!!!" Psalm 113

The Fruit of HIS Spirit should also become increasingly evident in our daily lives as we grow spiritually. Each day is a precious "GIFT" from GOD! Abba Heavenly Father delights in our praise! Spending time with God and meditating on His Word will help deepen your desire to give Him the Glory and “Authentic” worship He so richly deserves! We also thank & praise GOD on our way to worship. Therefore, come what may we are prepared. Be encouraged as you embrace the truth of HIS WORD; “Consider it pure JOY, my brothers (sisters) whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your FAITH develops PERSEVERANCE! Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, he (she) should ask GOD, who gives generously to ALL without finding fault, and it will be given ….” James 1

“Man looks on the outside, but God looks at the heart.” HE NOT ONLY LOOKS AT THE HEART, HE ABSOLUTELY KNOWS ALL OF OUR HEARTS. Therefore, live everyday; "To GOD BE the GLORY!"

Elder DeBorrah K Ogans (author) on April 04, 2013:, God made the greatest ultimate sacrifice when He allowed His only begotten Son; Jesus Christ to die on the cross for the sins of the world... As you so well stated:" what better offering could we bring than ourselves." AMEN!

Thank You for stopping by to share your insight. Please do come again, Peace & Blessings! from upstate, NY on March 31, 2013:

I think at first, praise is sacrificial because true praise requires a death to self. But if we want the fire of God in our lives, there must be a sacrifice and what better offering could we bring than ourselves.

Almasi, Thank You! I so agree about "worshipping God through song..." There is certainly Victory in sincere PRAISE! It turns our attention to focus on Him rather than on the issue or situation! There is something so special about praising Him in song alone it brings us closer to Him and invites His presence around us and yes stops "negativity..."

Thank you for stopping by to share your spiritual insight!

In HIS Love, Grace Joy Peace & Blessings!

almasi on March 30, 2011:

Thanks for a beautiful hub and I must add that when things go really wrong, I have found worshiping God through song is a way of stopping negativity from flooding my mind and making me say the wrong thing.

Elder DeBorrah K Ogans (author) on October 05, 2010:

Cristina, Thank You! Yes worshp goes so much deeper than attending "Sunday Worship...!" We must draw closer to the Lord each day! Everyday we continue to remain on this side of Heaven is to grow and learn...

Thank you for sharing your wise insight! In HIS Love,Joy, Peace & Blessings!

Cristina Santander from Manila on October 01, 2010:

Excellent hub which presents great truths to ponder. Truly worship is more than attending the Sunday worship, it is more than singing spiritual songs. Worship could be expressed in everything that you do. It is letting God's spirit lives through you as one song says. I agree with you it is about living a holy and blameless life before God. Thank you for bringing these into light. Blessings to you, Regards.

This is a beautiful article. Just want to share this verse in Psalms 113:2 "Let the name of the Lord be praised, both now and forever more." When I was too busy to pray and go to church before, this verse showed me what God really wants me to do. Thanks for your inspiration hub.

Elder DeBorrah K Ogans (author) on June 13, 2010:

DrPastorCarlotta, Words are limited in their ability to fully express how it is when you know the presence of the Lord is with you! Not because of who we are but because of who He is! GOD is AWESOME! It is true! "Can't Nobody Do You Like JESUS!" The Love of God is so powerful! "I LOVE YOU LORD"! As you "Worship HIM in SPIRIT and in TRUTH" and make yourself available to HIM HIS Light shines through you and dispels the darkness! How Beautiful! PRAISE GOD!

May the Lord continue to use you as you touch lives for HIM! "Greater is HE that is in you! Than he that is in the world! THANK GOD for JESUS and HIS precious HOLY SPIRIT!

When I worship The Lord, I start thinking about all the wonderful things He has done in my life, knowing without Him, I would be dead! He was the only one who believed in me and stuck by my side. He nutured me back to health and a sound mind. I am a Praise Team Worship Leader and I know the meaning of Praise and Worship and bringing in the present of the Holy Spirit!! Wonderful Hub DeBorrah, just wonderful!

I am glad that you have been uplifted! It is true God Knows! This is why its important to be REAL with Him! We need to be prayerful because there is so much going on inside and outside of the Church.

You are right "We need to look to Christ the Author and Finisher of our FAITH." You are Welcome! Thank you for visiting and please come again.

ConstructionHero from Washington on September 25, 2009:

What an uplifting Hub, I really like the part where you talk about God knows if our worship is authentic. That really struck a chord. We all are let down by people and it is especially hurtful when it is within the church. We need to always look to Christ the author and finisher of our faith.

Thank you for writing this, it is a real blessing.

Elder DeBorrah K Ogans (author) on September 08, 2009:

Kim Garcia,

Thank you for your kind words. You are right the Lord never tempts us! But I agree He allows things to happen to see if we will "walk in His ways and truth." It is through trials we can become stronger and wiser, better and not bitter as we submit to His will and way as we go through them! We are more than conquerors through Christ Jesus.

Thank You for visiting.

Kim Garcia on September 04, 2009:

What a wonderful Hub!!! The Three T's always strengthens our faith if we continue to stay in God's Word and His guiding Light. Trials, Testing, and Tribulations. We are Overcomers!! And I truly believe there are many tests sent our way by God, to see if we will be faithful servants and walk in His ways and truths, and live according to His commandments. God never Temps us, as temptation comes from Satan, father of all lies. But....I do believe that God sometimes allows those temptations to see if we will be obedient and not succumb to the things of the flesh. Each hurdle we conquer the more growth and wisdom we acquire. Wonderful Hub!! Peace n' Blessings!!!

Elder DeBorrah K Ogans (author) on September 03, 2009:

Lady E

Yes He does! It is important that we learn to Praise God for who He is! Regardless as to what is happening are not happening at any given time; He is still worthy of our Praise! We can always praise Him for His Word, excellency, wisdom, power, goodness, greatness, majesty, mercy, loving kindness and most of all for His Son Jesus Christ and on and on…

"Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His Name.” Hebrews 13 Continually means to be persistent! In time He will supply, restore or give you whatever you need in His time. All His promises are true! Trials come to make us STRONG! Praise Him through the storm! “No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.”

Thank you for stopping by you are always welcome!

Elena from London, UK on September 03, 2009:

Beautiful Hub and God indeed inhabits our praises. I heard someone say that when you have houses, cars, a nice cushy life - its so easy to Praise God, your voice would be the loudest in the Church, but when we are going through trials, its hard to praise God (when someone's going through illness or no source of income to support the family). That, he said, was a Sacrifice of Praise. Praising God when everything around seems hopeless.

Will be back to read more of your Hubs - they're like chapters in a book for me. :)

Elder DeBorrah K Ogans (author) on July 08, 2009:

God is truly worthy of our sincere praise! Thanks for stopping by. Blessings

twill4jc on July 08, 2009:

I can really tell that you just dont write or teach on Praise and Worship like so many do but you actually live it. So many times the people who preach and teach on praise and worship dont practice what they preach, but i can tell that is not the case with you. You have some wonderful hubs look like. I am going to take the time to read them. God bless and keep living for the Lord Jesus Christ!

Elder DeBorrah K Ogans (author) on May 22, 2009:

I  stated   that “God looks at the heart”   This passage of Scripture is found in  I Samuel  16.  It  exemplifies   how David was  God’s choice as king!  Saul who was  the current  king was tormented  by an evil spirit.  He was consumed by  his jealousy of David.    He created terror for David and anyone who opposed  him and acted like a barbarian as you stated.

I said “God looks at the heart” because although  Saul  was  still King his heart had become  hardened and he had been rejected by God.  David did not look like a king and  it was   assumed  by some  that he was the  least likely candidate  to become king...  Yet, David was chosen by God because  of  his heart ...   The  irony of it all was, the only  thing that calmed Saul  anxiety was when David played his harp!

I used this  classic illustration because often many look from a surface perspective and often form erroneous conclusions.    But when you really think  about it,  David  did  have power...  God who is Omniscient  meaning  all knowing KNOWS  our hearts.  He knows  us all through and through therefore we are completely transparent to Him…   Absolutely nothing gets by HIM!

Thank you Narayan your comments are welcomed.  Blessings

Narayan on May 21, 2009:

OK, God looks at the heart. It is also said that god is within the heart of each individual. However some people commit sin, giving trouble to others, act like barbarism, behave like animal. creat terror, on and on....
