Rodric's opinion of the Restored Gospel's doctrines change as more revelation comes. In the meantime, reasoning and perception rule the day.
Joseph has evil spoken of him for dare saying to the world that God the Father is a glorified man and that all are created in His glorious image.
Joseph Smith II. was born December 23, 1805, in Sharon, Vermont to Joseph and Lucy Mack Smith. He came from a family of farmers who worked hard at their employ and carried with the same, a reputation.
Joseph Smith I. moved his family eventually to Palmyra, New York looking for financial security. The Smith family was a poor family but were steep in spirituality and an understanding of the Bible.
The First Vision
At the age of 14, Joseph Smith II was a somber child and wanted to know the best way he could serve God.
He attended many different religious assemblies to find out what church to belong to and would bring salvation to his soul.
The course of his life was very pointedly upon the subject of his eternal welfare and he would not relent in finding out what God wanted him to do.
One day, while reading the bible he came upon the book of James and read in the first chapter and fifth verse:
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
Joseph pondered on the meaning of the verse because never before had he given himself to vocal prayer. He wanted to know with which of the religious bodies to unite.
So, he went to a grove near his home to pray vocally among the trees. Immediately he was seized by a dark force that rendered him ineffective.
Through exerting all his faith a light descended upon him, which set him free. Within that light stood two people standing side to side.
In answer to his prayer, Joseph Smith was visited by God the Father and Jesus Christ as he was enveloped in the presence of the Holy Ghost. He saw and experienced all three members of the Godhead at the same time!
To him, this was more than he expected, but it was what needed to be. God has revealed Himself to mankind again in these last days through a prophet called Joseph Smith II.

Good and Evil Spoken of His Name
God promised that Joseph would have good and evil spoken of him because of the things that he would do. The truths he revealed caused the very foundations of hell to shake as he declares to the world that God and Jesus Christ are glorified men with bodies as tangible as ours. Not only that but seeing them together answers the questions caused by the creeds over the centuries.
Elder Neil L. Anderson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles explained an aspect of Joseph's infamy in the 2014 October conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints:
Why does the Lord allow the evil speaking to chase after the good? One reason is that opposition against the things of God sends seekers of truth to their knees for answers.
The Godhead revealed themselves again because the knowledge of them had been lost in apostasy centuries before when men took it upon themselves to define God.
Joseph has evil spoken of him for dare saying to the world that God the Father is a glorified man and that all are created in his glorious image. For revealing that mystery, Joseph flew in the face of all Christianity and Islam--all religious belief about God!
Of course, he would be derided and persecuted because his claims did not just go quietly into oblivion when he died. Hundreds, thousands then millions of people hear and believe his testimony of God.
He was 14 years of age when the supernal experience occurred.
I had actually seen a light, and in the midst of that light I saw two Personages, and they did in reality speak to me; and though I was hated and persecuted for saying that I had seen a vision, yet it was true; and while they were persecuting me, reviling me, and speaking all manner of evil against me falsely for so saying, I was led to say in my heart: Why persecute me for telling the truth?
I have actually seen a vision; and who am I that I can withstand God, or why does the world think to make me deny what I have actually seen? For I had seen a vision; I knew it, and I knew that God knew it, and I could not deny it, neither dared I do it; at least I knew that by so doing I would offend God, and come under condemnation. Joseph Smith History 1:25
Bring the World God's Truth
Joseph Smith did more for the salvation of men than any other person except Jesus Christ. Because of his unique position in history, the adversary would have the misguided worship him, or the detractors claim that the church he established worships him.
Believers reverence his name and do not have to justify their love for Joseph. He saw God and Jesus and helped to clarify that God is real and He and the Savior are separate people who work for the good of all.
No longer does humanity need halt between who is the most persuasive orator about the trinity concept. It is revealed by God Himself. None need wonder if the Bible was clear on the subject or any other scripture because modern revelation IS clear on the subject.
Humanity knows more about God because of Joseph Smith! He dared to publish a book of scripture that he claims was given to him by a resurrected being for the benefit of converting all people to Jesus Christ.
Blessed be the name of Joseph Smith for having the courage to walk away from his past and change his life to be more in tune with God. It took him years of repenting and study to prepare to be a prophet.
It took years for the Lord to completely purge the traditions of his forefathers out of him before He could reveal the next thing for the salvation of mankind. Detractors encourage a focus on the things he believed or practiced before he understood the nature of God.

Thanks you for commenting Robert. I appreciate you reading my hub. Just to be clear, the path that I follow is through Jesus Christ to Father in Heaven. Joseph Smith is just a prophet who provided more information about God to the world. He in not way effected the atonement and is just as important as any other prophet such as Moses, Isaiah or Nehemiah. What makes him unique is that he is recent. Thomas S. Monson is currently the Lords anointed prophet today. What he has revealed lately is "May I suggest that our Heavenly Father would want each of us to render to Him and to His Son the gift of obedience. I also feel that He would ask us to give of ourselves and not be selfish or greedy or quarrelsome."
He taught that as his most recent communication. As you can see, it is not earth shattering, so most people will disregard what he is saying because all good people would say it.
God speaks to all who will listen and gives as much light as we willingly receive.

Hi Rodric. I really don't know what to say. You believe what you believe for whatever the reasons. For your sake, I hope that you're right. I'll not follow that path, but will pray that all find the right path. There is only one.

Rodric I have to say that were are not alike. Like former Lds president Hinkley said, we don't worship the same god. My God was never a man from the planet kolob he never inspired the book of mormon. My God never discriminated against the blacks receiving the same blessings as the whites. Jesus said 2,000 years ago that there are only 2 creeds, The saved and the unsaved.
And like I shared above, there was no need for the gospel to be restored. The scripture that I shared above, Which according to the lds church is a major scripture that shows a reason for the necessity of the restoration, Shows the LDS church have that scripture all wrong. I believe that the whole LDS faith is false and is not from the Father.
Rodric I believe you are a good guy. I am speaking against the LDS Faith (the doctrine) not the people.

Steels Engineer, I appreciate you taking the time to read and comment. As a Christian, I can answer any question I have knowledge to speak on. As a man of African Heritage I am unsure what you want.
The Book of Mormon does not teach anything about black skin people having refused to fight in the pre-mortal life. Trust me, I read it frequently.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has never taught that people with dark skin, black skin or any other type of skin were anything but children of God before this life and fought valiantly on the side of Jehovah and Micheal in the pre-mortal life.
Now that I have cleared that up I can answer your real question. How I know that the book is true. I asked God. It is of no concern to me if Joseph Smith skated across Lake Eerie naked citing Shakespeare, it will not change the fact that I spoke to God and he spoke to me affirming that Joseph Smith was a prophet who saw him and his son and restored his church.
It is not if I claimed Joseph came to me and told me he is a prophet. He is dead. I asked God independently of all others if Joseph's claims were true and he told me they are. Regardless of what Joseph Smith did to get things completed, it cannot change God's answer to my questions in prayer.
I fail to see how my answered prayers have anything to do with how Joseph translated the record. Even if those things about the black skin were in the book or taught by the church, which they are not, how would that change the fact that God told me the book and church are truly his work?
It seems to me I am constantly being told not to listen to God because something Joseph Smith said or did does not sound like a prophet would say or do it. I cannot see the relationship.
I pray constantly for direction from God and I do not lean to my own understanding. I test my faith each day by living the principles and asking God to reaffirm the things he has revealed to me because my memory becomes dull over time and I need it. Each time I pray the spirit witnesses to me of the truth of these things. I already know that The Book of Mormon is the word of God. I knew that before I learned about a person named Joseph Smith. I don't have to pray about these things everyday because God has revealed to me the truth.
I pray anyway because I like to tell the Lord that I believe him, his answers to my prayers--it's like I am bearing testimony to him about it. As I do, the spirit reaffirms my faith. I constantly ask him if he is watching me, and he reminds me he is through his spirit.
I have a witness that the Bible is the word of God also. I prayed about it after I read the Book of Mormon and found it to be true. The only reason why I did so was because in the Book of Mormon it says that the Bible is true. I found Christ through the Book of Mormon. It is my favorite book of scripture. I would not be a Christian without it because the Bible meant nothing but confusion and misinterpretation. Now that I have the gift of the Holy Ghost, I know the Bible teaches truth and I have a clear understanding of its teachings.

Thanks for posting Passingtheword. It is fine that you do not believe the great apostasy has happened yet. It is true what you say about Christ not leaving us alone, he left the Holy Spirit. He influences us any time we hear the truth and allow it to enter into our hearts.
We can focus on what we share in common and come to a unity of faith that way--focus on our shared faith in the divinity of Jesus Christ and his healing touch if wee allow his teachings to guide our life. The spirit reveals the truth to our hears and our minds. He speaks peace to our hearts and pure knowledge. It is true that we must be open to receive that knowledge. Let us receive the confirmation of the knowledge of Christ in hour minds together that he lives. We can iron out the wrinkles later since everything besides Jesus crucified and Resurrected for our sins is just an appendage.

I just want to share something I shared before.
for the past few years people have seen me questioning the church and have told me to find a testimony of Joseph Smith. That his truth will make me believe. But there is no way that i could find out about him. All I can do is dissect his word in order to believe in him and his message he said he received. And what stands out is the teaching of the Great Apostasy. If the teaching and the point of view of the church is false then The LDS church is false.
I use this a lot but it shows that the LDS' thoughts of the apostasy is false.
the Great apostasy has not happen yet.
John 15:2, Every branch (believer, disciple, true Christian) that beareth fruit, He (God) shall prune it, that it may bring forth more fruit. (The true Word of God will continue forever.) The branches are the believers and/or teachers and the fruit are those who are taught. God will get those people ready (prune) and the cycle will continue forever.
This is what God promised.
The Great apostasy is talked about in 2 Thessalonians Ch 2. When the people thought that the day of the Lord had already began.
Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first (The Great apostasy) AND that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition (Satan).
The Great apostasy (the Great falling away) will happen when the anti christ (the son of perdition "damnable to die") comes and teaches his false doctrine (Rev 13). The people will be tricked into worshiping the beast (satan) and will be turned away from the true Christ. The great Apostasy.
Jesus promised us that he would never leave us or forsake us. Hebrews 13:5, And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever; John 14:16 we will always have the Holy spirit we will always have Jesus
Steel Engineer from Kiev, Ukraine on June 22, 2012:
Also, I want to challenge you, being a black man, regarding the teachings of Joseph Smith. He claimed to translate the golden tablets.
If those golden tablets are wrong, even just a little, can they be from God?
Those tablets say that black skin is a punishment for those who refused to fight against the devil in the rebellion. They said "white and delightsome" to contrast with black skin... which is then NOT delightsome.
That is ridiculous!
Jesus said he came not to create peace but to separate families, 2 from 3 and 3 from 2. If part of a family will believe and join the Body of Christ, and part will refuse... How can skin color or any genetic trait at all have anything to do with it?
Smith translated those tablets by placing them in a black hat with a special rock. He placed his face over the hat and dictated the words to a scribe. He is the only person who ever saw the foreign words transform into English. He is 1 of 3 to ever claim to have seen these plates.
So, one of these is true:
Joseph Smith lied.
Blacks are lower beings because they were lazy cowards in Heaven.
It sounds ridiculous, doesn't it? I'm even ashamed to write that! It is a lie from Hell.
In fact, to be honest, I have found greater faith in the black church than in white churches.
Steel Engineer from Kiev, Ukraine on June 22, 2012:
Man needs no church, not any denomination, to know my Father in Heaven. If any -you, I, or any person - put a man between himself and God, a serious error has been made. Joseph Smith, John Calvin, Ellen White, and many others have created new, separate factions from the simple, God-first Body of Christ.
My advice to all who desire to know the one Jesus called "My Father in Heaven" is to seek Him directly.
