Is the Fourth Industrial Revolution the Fourth Beast of Revelation?

There has been a lot of talk in recent months about something called the fourth industrial revolution. Its concept was coined by a man named Klaus Schwab, founder of the World Economic Forum and published in a book written by the professor.1

At the same time there has been a lot of talk recently on the Internet surrounding the recent global events such as the pandemic and the war in Ukraine to name a few. People have begun to question whether or not we are living in the last days before Jesus' return.

Professor Klaus Schwab and other prominent figures on the global stage have openly discussed how the recent pandemic has made it possible for the world to enter into the fourth industrial revolution.2

But is that really what the world is entering into?

Technology combined with government mandates saw the exclusion of certain people from being able to work certain jobs and enter certain public spaces even causing some to go so far as to question whether this was the beginning of a system that would bring about the mark of the beast.

Are these technological advancements nothing more than achievements to be celebrated by mankind or is it a skeletal frame of what will become the fourth and final beast empire in the book of Revelation?

Read on to find out!

What is the Fourth Industrial Revolution?

According to the World Economic Forum:

The Fourth Industrial Revolution represents a fundamental change in the way we live, work and relate to one another.

It is a new chapter in human development, enabled by extraordinary technology advances commensurate with those of the first, second and third industrial revolutions.

These advances are merging the physical, digital and biological worlds in ways that create both huge promise and potential peril.

The speed, breadth and depth of this revolution is forcing us to rethink how countries develop, how organizations create value and even what it means to be human.

The Fourth Industrial Revolution is about more than just technology-driven change; it is an opportunity to help everyone, including leaders, policy-makers and people from all income groups and nations, to harness converging technologies in order to create an inclusive, human-centered future.3

There are two keywords I want you to pay attention to in this statement.

They are:

  • merging
  • human-centered

I will explain later on in this article why these two concepts are important in understanding what the fourth beast system. For now, just keep them in your mind.

We stand on the brink of a technological revolution that will fundamentally alter the way we live, work, and relate to one another. In its scale, scope, and complexity, the transformation will be unlike anything humankind has experienced before.

What is the Fourth Beast of Revelation?

The fourth beast in the book of Revelation in the Bible is the final kingdom that will be in place at the time of Jesus' return.

  • It is a kingdom that will encompass the whole world (Daniel 7:23).
  • It is a kingdom that will have ten kings described in scripture as the ten toes of Nebuchadnezzar's dream (Daniel 2:41) and ten horns in Daniel's vision (Daniel 7:24).
  • It is a powerful kingdom and unlike the previous three empires which were Babylon, Medo-Persia and Greece (Daniel 7:23).
  • The power and authority of this kingdom will come from Satan himself (the dragon) (Revelation 13:2).
Scroll to Continue
  • It is a beast that was, is not and is yet to come (Revelation 17:8).
  • It is a beast that will ascend out of the bottomless pit (the abyss) (Revelation 17:8).

The fourth beast shall be

A fourth kingdom on earth,

Which shall be different from all other kingdoms,

And shall devour the whole earth,

Trample it and break it in pieces.

The ten horns are ten kings

Who shall arise from this kingdom.

— Daniel 7:23-24

Nimrod & Babel: Where it begins

In Genesis 10:8-10 it says:

"Cush begot Nimrod; he began to be a mighty one on the earth. He was a mighty hunter before the Lord; therefore it is said, “Like Nimrod the mighty hunter before the Lord.” And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar."

Not long after the flood that covered the whole earth, Ham son of Noah had a son named Cush and Cush had a son named Nimrod.

The first time in scripture that the word "kingdom" appears is here in Genesis chapter ten.

Kingdom of This World

It was not just a kingdom of Nimrod that began but man's earthly kingdom which would ultimately be led spiritually by the "ruler of this world" who is Satan (John 14:30) to oppose the heavenly kingdom being established by our Lord Jesus Christ (Matthew 4:17).

Babel was merely the birthplace if you will, of the kingdom of this world (the earth).

The Agenda of the People

It can be summarized in the following verse:

"And they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.” (Genesis 11:4)

They had one language and considered themselves as one. They were determined to make a name for themselves in direct rebellion against God's command that the people be fruitful and fill the earth just as He had back in Genesis 1:28.

Man's agenda was to build up everyone into one homogeneous identity, to do what man wanted to do, not God.

Even today, more than ever we see this agenda still playing out in the media and elsewhere.

Remember the slogan, "We're all in this together?"

How many times have you heard leaders, politicians, etc., say that as mankind we need to "come together" to achieve something?

Babel was the beginning point of this whole idea that mankind should be one and accomplish what man wants to accomplish for himself in direct opposition to what God had told mankind to do.

The Motivation Behind the Agenda

Are you asking yourself why mankind has it in his heart to come together and do great things and make a name for themselves? Where is all this motivation coming from?

Answer: from a false but powerful promise.

A False Promise

To understand this powerful promise we have to go back to the very beginning in the Garden of Eden when Eve answered the serpent's question whether or not God said they should not eat of every tree of the garden.

"Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil” (Genesis 3:1).

What's the powerful promise being implied?

That if they eat of the fruit God told them not to eat they would be like God.

It's currently the year 2022 as I write this article and most (not all) mankind is still believing this false promise and have taken it to the next level.

The technology of today has made it so that not only does mankind believe they will be like God, but also that they can take the place of God. In other words, be a god.

Daniel's Vision of the Fourth Beast

Now let's look at the fourth kingdom from Daniel's perspective through the vision he has in chapter seven:

"After this I saw in the night visions, and behold, a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, exceedingly strong. It had huge iron teeth; it was devouring, breaking in pieces, and trampling the residue with its feet. It was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had ten horns" (Daniel 7:7).

Daniel is then given the interpretation of his vision. He asks to know more about the fourth beast that he sees:

“Then I wished to know the truth about the fourth beast, which was different from all the others, exceedingly dreadful, with its teeth of iron and its nails of bronze, which devoured, broke in pieces, and trampled the residue with its feet..." (Daniel 7:19).

One of the things that is repeated is the fact that this fourth beast is going to be different from all the others.

Having raised humanity above the beastly level of survival struggles, we will now aim to upgrade humans into gods...

Toes of clay mingled with iron in the dream of King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon in the book of Daniel chapter 2.

Toes of clay mingled with iron in the dream of King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon in the book of Daniel chapter 2.

Feet of Iron and Clay

In the book of Daniel chapter two Daniel gives both the dream and the interpretation of the dream King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon has that nobody else saw or could interpret.

In his dream King Nebuchadnezzar saw a great image:

"This image’s head was of fine gold, its chest and arms of silver, its belly and thighs of bronze, its legs of iron, its feet partly of iron and partly of clay" (Daniel 2:32-33).

Description of the Fourth Kingdom

The description of the legs of iron and the feet with toes of iron mixed with clay is also of the fourth beast. The two are interchangeable. The vision of the feet and toes is what King Nebuchadnezzar saw in his dream.

Further on in Daniel chapter two we are given a more detailed description of the fourth kingdom that King Nebuchadnezzar saw in his dream:

"And the fourth kingdom shall be as strong as iron, inasmuch as iron breaks in pieces and shatters everything; and like iron that crushes, that kingdom will break in pieces and crush all the others.

Whereas you saw the feet and toes, partly of potter’s clay and partly of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; yet the strength of the iron shall be in it, just as you saw the iron mixed with ceramic clay.

And as the toes of the feet were partly of iron and partly of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong and partly fragile.

As you saw iron mixed with ceramic clay, they will mingle with the seed of men; but they will not adhere to one another, just as iron does not mix with clay" (Daniel 2:40-43).

Wrong Interpretation

If you do a search in Google on King Nebuchadnezzar's dream and look at the images in the search results you will see that most images show the iron legs as belonging to the Roman Empire.

The toes are described as being the final beast kingdom that is yet to come but the truth is that Daniel described the legs of iron and the toes as part of the fourth kingdom.

The third kingdom was composed of bronze whereas the fourth kingdom will be composed of iron and clay. There is no iron mentioned as part of the third kingdom which was Greece.

Rome was merely a part of Greece, a continuation of the Greek empire.

The Iron

There is something peculiar about the description of the iron and the clay that tells me the iron is unique in a sense. Here is what we can gleam from the scriptures:

  • The iron is going to mingle with the seed of men.
  • The word "seed" can be translated as offspring, posterity, hence children of men.
  • The word "adhere" can also mean "cleave" as in a man will leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife... and they shall be one flesh (Genesis 2:24).
  • This iron crushes and breaks in pieces.

The Clay

  • The clay represents the weaker aspect of the kingdom.
  • It does not adhere to the iron.
  • The clay has the strength of the iron in it.
  • The feet and the toes are comprised of clay mixed with iron whereas the legs are of iron.
  • Because the scripture says the iron will mingle with the seed of men, we know the clay represents flesh and blood men.

How Feet and Toes of Iron Mixed with Clay Might Represent the Fourth Industrial Revolution

As more and more technology rolls out and the World Economic Forum keeps putting forth the ideas behind a fourth industrial revolution I ask myself, "Where is this mentioned in the scriptures?"

It's possible that there is no mention.

However, there is also a possibility that it is described by Daniel in the verses mentioned above regarding the feet composed of iron and clay.

The words that jump out that lead me to believe this are "As you saw iron mixed with ceramic clay, they will mingle with the seed of men" (Daniel 2:43).

Keywords: Merging and Human-Centered

Remember earlier in the article when I mentioned the importance of the words "merging" as in coming together as one, and "human-centered"?

I believe the "merging" of humans with technology is what is spoken of in scripture regarding the iron mixing with clay. This is what they want, but these two diverse elements will not cleave, even though that is what they are hoping to accomplish.

The so-called "new" idea of creating a human-centered is actually nothing new at all but dates back to the days of Babel when man wanted create a name for himself as I mentioned earlier in the article.

Iron = Technology

By technology I am referring to AI systems, robotics, and other aspects of technology.

Technology as far as I can see, will become for many a yoke of iron.

What do I mean by that?

If you must have a certain app on your phone to be able to enter a particular store let's say, and that app must appear green, then you either comply or you don't. There is no reasoning with a computer or an app or a machine that I am aware of.

Having a human being at the entrance to a store might allow you a chance that they might look the other way should you fail to have that app or have it appear green on your screen out of sympathy.

How about a monetary system that is completely digital? You either comply with the system as it exists or you don't. If digital dollars is all that is accepted then your paper money will mean nothing to a computer scanner in the store.

Do you see where this is going?

If in the near future there are robot police patrolling the streets and they have been programmed to shoot to kill, then that is what they will do. Machines do not understand mercy, they don't take bribes or look the other way.

Clay = Human Beings

If you read scripture then you understand clay often refers to mankind.

This clay is viewed as the weaker part of the fourth kingdom described in Daniel's interpretation of King Nebuchadnezzar's dream.

It is also referred to as the "seed of men."

Why say seed of men? If the "they" are humans spoken of in that sentence then it's a no brainer that if they combine with one another it will be in the seed (offspring).

If they is referring to technology or their technology then this is clearly something non-human.

They Will Not Adhere to One Another

Just as iron does not mix with clay, neither will technology become one with human beings.

I look at this in two aspects:

1. There will be great division between those who willingly choose to partake in this beast system that will be technology-based and those who will not.

2. Despite physically combining technology with human flesh within the actual human body these two very different things will never become one, as in the fantasy of some kind of cyborg.

It could also be both of these aspects.

Future Consequences of Combining Technology and Human Flesh?

"So the first went and poured out his bowl upon the earth, and a foul and loathsome sore came upon the men who had the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image" (Revelation 16:2).

Just something to keep in mind, there may not be a connection but I find it interesting that these sores are mentioned in connection with the mark of the beast.

What the World Economic Forum Envisions for Our Future

In their own words4:

  • "The Fourth Industrial Revolution, finally, will change not only what we do but also who we are."
  • "Revolutions occurring in biotechnology and AI, which are redefining what it means to be human by pushing back the current thresholds of life span, health, cognition, and capabilities, will compel us to redefine our moral and ethical boundaries."
  • "We stand on the brink of a technological revolution that will fundamentally alter the way we live, work, and relate to one another. In its scale, scope, and complexity, the transformation will be unlike anything humankind has experienced before."
  • "It is characterized by a fusion of technologies that is blurring the lines between the physical, digital, and biological spheres."

So in other words, this is a transhumanist future.

What is Transhumanism?

According to Wikipedia,

"Transhumanism is a philosophical and intellectual movement which advocates the enhancement of the human condition by developing and making widely available sophisticated technologies that can greatly enhance longevity and cognition. It also predicts the inevitability of such technologies in the future."

In 2020 Yuval Harari gave a warning to the audience at Davos5. He said:

"In the coming decades, AI and biotechnology will give us godlike abilities to reengineer life, and even to create completely new life-forms. After four billion years of organic life shaped by natural selection, we are about to enter a new era of inorganic life shaped by intelligent design."

Another prediction at the 2022 Davos meeting by Nokia CEO Pekka Lundmark is that by 2030smartphones will be implanted directly into the body." 6

We're looking at technology integrated with humans in some kind of transhumanist utopia.

I believe this is could possibly be the feet of iron mixed with clay.

We're looking at a global system that will most likely be AI driven, digitally encompassing and robotically enforced.

Is the Fourth Industrial Revolution the Fourth Beast of Revelation?

Honestly, it's still too early to tell but what I see unfolding on the world stage promoted by the World Economic Forum eerily resembles what was spoken of by the prophet Daniel and by John in the book of Revelation.

We're looking at a global system that will most likely be AI driven, digitally encompassing and robotically enforced.

This fourth kingdom that King Nebuchadnezzar saw and the fourth beast that both Daniel and John saw is the re-imergence of a human-centered earthly kingdom first begun in the days of Nimrod when the people began to build Babel.

Klaus Schwab calls for leaders and citizens to:

“together shape a future that works for all by putting people first, empowering them and constantly reminding ourselves that all of these new technologies are first and foremost tools made by people for people."7

After all, it is the World Economic Forum whose vision for the future of mankind is to make a name for ourselves, just like in the days of Babel.

In the end, it all comes down to people and values. We need to shape a future that works for all of us by putting people first and empowering them.8

Our Blessed Hope

Though the future looks to be getting darker as the days are becoming more evil, we who believe in Jesus Christ as our Savior have hope.

As Daniel rightly pointed out to King Nebuchadnezzar (and for our understanding):

"You watched while a stone was cut out without hands, which struck the image on its feet of iron and clay, and broke them in pieces. Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold were crushed together, and became like chaff from the summer threshing floors; the wind carried them away so that no trace of them was found. And the stone that struck the image became a great mountain and filled the whole earth" (Daniel 2:34-35).

The conclusion that Daniel gave to King Nebuchadnezzar as he deciphered the dream was this:

And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever (Daniel 2:44).

What About the Fourth Beast of Revelation?

"Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, 'Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.

Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time” (Revelation 12:10-12).

When it says "they overcame him" it is referring to Satan himself, the one who gives his power, throne and authority to the beast.

  • We who are in Christ have nothing to fear of what man can do to us or of this dreadful fourth kingdom (Matthew 10:28).
  • We have an assurance of salvation from this world and from the evil we will be surrounded with in the future (1Thessalonians 5:9).
  • Jesus Christ when He died on the cross overcame this world and when you are in Christ then you will overcome as well (John 16:33).
  • Our victory through Christ is assured (1Corinthians 15:57).

Let us hold fast to this blessed hope, the hope of His return to earth to crush and destroy this fourth industrial revolution which is most likely nothing more than the final kingdom of this world powered by Satan himself.

As the apostle Paul so perfectly put it:

"For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.

Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you" (Titus 2:11-15).
