Wolves in Sheep's Skin
Identify false Prophets
“For false christs and false prophets will rise and show sign and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the ELECT.” (Mark 13:22)
1 Test their spirit
“Beloved, do not believe every spirit but test the spirits whether they are of God because many false prophets have gone out into the world.” (I John 4:1-6)
2 Test their doctrines
“Test all things; hold fast what is good.” (I Thes. 5:21)
“If anyone thinks himself to be a prophet or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the thing which I write to you are the commandments of the Lord.” (I Cor. 14:37)
“…He who is not of God does not hear us. By that we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.” (I John 4:6)
“If there arises among you a prophet or a dreamer of dreams and he gives you a sign or a wonder comes to pass of which he spoke to you, saying, “Let us go after other gods which you have not known, and let us serve them.” You shall not listen to that prophet or dreamer of dreams. (Deut 13:1-3)
3 Test their spiritual fruit
“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thorn bushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore BY THEIR FRUITS,YOU WILL KNOW THEM” (Matt. 7:15-21)
What kind of signs, wonders and miracles?
Discernment Is the Key Which Is Needed to Identify the Falsehood
4 Test their supernatural manifestations
“For false Christ and false prophets will arise and show great signs and wonders, so as to deceive, if possible, even THE ELECT” (Matt. 24:24).
“The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of truth, that they might be saved.” (II Thess. 2:9,10, Rev. 13:13,14, Rev. 16:13,14a)
“Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord” shall enter the kingdom of heaven but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, “Lord, Lord have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name and done many wonders in Your name?” And then I will declare to them, “I never knew you, Depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness. “ (Matt. 7:21-23)
5 Test their intentions
“For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things to draw away disciples after themselves.” (Acts 20:29,30)
“Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. Ravage wolves that will not let the flock escape will come amongst you.” (Acts 20:28-30)
“Beware of false prophets.” (Matt. 7:15)

"but mark this: there will be terrible times in the last days......having a form of godliness but denying its power." 2 Timothy 3:1-5

The "end days"? "Deceiving spirits"?
There have been lots of claims we are in the "last days". I really see no evidence of this. It seems like a conspiracy theory.
victor (author) from India on May 24, 2013:
We are not here to label others as false teachers.
First of all we need to be aware of false prophets.
Christ said that you should know them by their fruits.
In the end days the activities of the deceiving spirits and deceptive prophets will increase. If we are not careful we will be in dangers. This hub is submitted to alarm the people of God. Just consider the Scriptures quoted in this article and surely God will give us the wisdom to discern. It is the Holy Spirit who can alone lead us in the truth. Thanks for your interest.

That could be considered just about anything. For instance, Fred Phelps could be considered a false teacher and he might consider Alan Chambers a false teacher.

Thanks for your question. I will just make a very brief answer.
The false teaching appear to be genuine and may or may not be based on the Word.
They are usually intelligent and sounds beneficial. Unless the Holy Spirit helps us we can not discern them.
victor (author) from India on May 23, 2013:
Thank you April. Surely the Elect ones shall be preserved by the Lord during the crisis of end time deceptions.
newenglandsun on May 23, 2013:

A very important hub! I am learning that many Christians do not know enough about what they believe and are in danger of being led astray. Thank you for sharing the warning!
