He Is the Reason Why I Praise! a Lyrical Poem.

I have a passion for life, and a zeal for understanding the depths of human nature.

The Lord Inhabits the Praises of His People.

People often ask me the reason for my praise...

Through all my trials and tribulations my countenance never change...

I've been through the valley; I've seen the fiery pits of hell...

And, though my life was torn in pieces my countenance never fell...

My God has been a shield for me, of this, I have no doubt...

For, if I had to suffer alone, the devil would've taken me out...

Through good times and bad times...

When my efforts seemed in vain...

I'm still alive to testify and this is why I praise...

I've been through the valley...

I've been through the storm...

I've seen the fiery Pitts of hell but I certainly wasn't alone...

For my God has been a shield for me of this I have no doubt...

Because if I had to fend for myself, the devil would have taken me out...

Through good times and bad times, when efforts seemed in vain...

Through times, I wanted to kill myself to relieve myself from the pain...

I'm still alive to testify, so this is why I say...

My God has been a shield for me, He's the reason why I praise.

God, Is The Shelter From The Storm.

People who have seen me in the darkest hours of my life marveled, in how I weathered my storms. They wondered how I could remain strong and not crumble from the weight of all I had been going through.

You see, I went through a bad season, and I wasn't sure if I would still be standing when my storm passed. In the beginning, I couldn't understand where my strength came from. There were times when I literally wanted to die.

I couldn't understand how my God, who I loved so completely, and served so faithfully, could allow me to experience so much pain. During this time, the devil came to me in my weakened state and was trying to convince me to take myself out.

Now, this is the amazing part about my testimony. Through all my trials and tribulations, I was creating songs of worship and poems of praise, and, I wondered how this could be. How could I be thankful to God, or praise him for being a healer and a deliverer when God, as far as I was concerned, did not save me from anything.

Embedded Scriptures Are Loosed During The Storm.

I was confused, and I looked within myself for the answer. I needed to get in touch with the spiritual part of me that knows all things. And, what I learned shocked me probably because deep inside my heart I knew the answer all along.

Deep in my heart I knew that God had not left me, and, was with me the entire time; through my pain, all my trials and tribulations, He was right there with me. Crying with me, weathering the storms with me, and pulling scriptures to my remembrance when the devil tried to take me out.

Sometimes It Takes A Storm In Order For Us To See The Goodness Of The Lord.

God never promised me the road would be easy. However, He did promise that He would never leave me nor forsake me. I was too weak to fight my own battles and the fact that I am still standing here today is a clear indication that I knew that I could do all things through Him who strengthens me.

So when people ask me why I tirelessly praise. When people are skeptic about the God I serve, I tell them if it wasn't for the strength of the Lord, I wouldn't be standing today and sometimes it takes a storm in order for us to see God.

God is our strength.

Many times we become weary, and through our suffering we often wonder 'Where our God is' He is right in the storm with us. The battle is not ours it's His. And, He is our strength, refuge and strong tower in the times of trouble those who run to Him are safe. God never promised us the road would be easy. He did promise to never leave us or forsake us.

So even when you can't feel Him or trace Him just keep praising. Through the storm, through the pain, keep praising. Through good times and bad keep praising. The Lord keeps us standing through the most difficult times in our lives. If your spirit is heavy remember to put on a garment of praise. If this message applies to you, I encourage you not to allow the devil to steal your praise.

Winning in Troubled Times, By Creflo Dollar, shows how we can keep the faith in our most difficult struggles.

Thank you for your visit and kind words.

Denise McGill from Fresno CA on September 03, 2019:

This is such good advice. It is hard to explain how we still go through the storm yet we feel stronger and uplifted when we praise. I feel his presence and know I will survive the worst with him. Thanks for commenting.

A beautiful devotional poem!

Dana Tate (author) from LOS ANGELES on September 02, 2016:

Gina, thank you so much for appreciating my poem. Yes this poem is a true testimony for me because I was truly tested during my storm and the only thing that kept me from departing from God was a relationship that had been solidified. When my burdens became heavy and I wondered how I could still praise during the darkest hours of my life what I learned was there is a big difference between an impersonal God and a God so close and personal that He truly touches your heart. I would be interested in hearing your story about NDE.

Gina Welds from Tampa, Florida on September 02, 2016:

Psalm 46 has been my favorite psalm ever since I was a little girl. Little did I know that it would get me through some very tough situations in my young adult and adult years.

Thank you, Dana, for sharing this. It truly is enriching and encouraging.

I will certainly be reading more of your work. I am intrigued by your hub on NDEs, having had one myself.

There is conviction in your words Dana. I too have felt the same way as you have described. The devil tried to take me out. He failed and God prevailed. Best to you and God bless.

Yes, Dr. Pran Rangan I have. It has been a process but I have learned to rest in Him and allow Him to fight my battles. Thank you for your unwavering support.

Thank you, Missy I really appreciate you saying that.

Missy Smith from Florida on February 19, 2016:

You are right, Dana. I think it's about being open and letting others really see the person we are, and how we choose to live our lives. I think when we hide, it brings negative feedback. However, even if we receive negative feedback, we are being true to ourselves and what we believe, so it still brings a positive feeling and perspective to our own lives. Courage! That's what it takes to be open and honest, and you've got that! :)

Dana Tate (author) from LOS ANGELES on February 19, 2016:

And, thank you, Missy, for leaving such a beautiful comment. You know it's comments like yours and the others that I have received that allow me to be honest about my struggles in order to show why I praise the way I do. I believe if we are honest and allow others to see that faith is something even the strongest struggle with from time to time, we can all see that we are not alone.

Missy Smith from Florida on February 18, 2016:

Wonderful testimony, Dana. It is unbelievable sometimes how we can be so distraught, but hold on to hope so tight. He made us fighters, or I like to say warriors. He sees us through. Even if you just have a little ounce of faith and belief in him, if you only pray just a minute, before giving up and feeling silly for it. He listens. He knows you are trying, and I believe that's how we get strength from him. He eventually restores or in some cases puts faith and hopes back into a tattered soul.

Thanks for writing such lovely and inspirational words of encouragement. Great poem!

How beautifully you praise our Lord and Savior.

Your poem is just so beautiful and thank you for your message to Frank.

I got your message Dana.

Blessings and Hugs my friend

Dana Tate (author) from LOS ANGELES on February 17, 2016:

Thanks, Frank- Through my storms I would wonder where was my God. Even people of strong faith feel that loving their Creator would keep them from the storm. Sadly, that is not true. I believe one of the reasons why God chooses to keep me standing during my storm instead of pulling me out is because of the praise that is born from it. My ministry is simple, not to force religion on people but to encourage them to draw closer to the one who created them. If they can manage to do that they will become so enlightened to who they truly are and how valuable they are. With that understanding, they will be able to endure anything this life throws at them. Thank you for reading and commenting.

Dana Tate (author) from LOS ANGELES on February 17, 2016:

manatita44- How I love when you grace my hubs with your words of wisdom. Receiving a comment from someone who is so enlightened is a true treasure. Yes, when I emerged from the storm I was a wiser and stronger person. Understanding I was able to endure it all because God kept me from falling put a praise in my heart. Part of my simple ministry is to encourage others to recognize God in their storm, so the devil will not steal their praise. Thank you for reading and leaving a nice comment.

Dana Tate (author) from LOS ANGELES on February 17, 2016:

ChitrangadaSharan- thank you for commenting. It is because we all go through so many challenges in life that so many people need encouragement. Knowing that, you are not alone in your situation allows you to weather the storm because as in all things it to shall pass.
