A believer, in recovery, looking to the Bible to know who I am in Christ.

And after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to His eternal glory in Christ, in Christ Jesus will Himself restore you, secure you, strengthen you, and establish you. To Him be the power forever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 5:10-11

I CAN Trust Him

I am a Christian who suffers. My thinking gets confused.

Other times, I get down about what's going on in the world.

By historical standards, my sufferings have been pretty tame. I'm sure in Peter's day, sufferings were horrific.

Still, my anguished spirit can feel immobilized by fear. Fight, flight, or freeze. I'm the frozen one. Sure, I can fight, or run. But freeze and disappear is the thing my brain turns to when threatened.

And little things can trigger it. Even a serious conversation can put me right in it.

Still, here's what I've found, God is gracious. He is merciful. He cares about me even when I'm frozen like a snowman.

I can and must trust Him.

It Doesn't Feel Good

But I might not always feel like He cares. My feelings help but aren't accurate at figuring out what is true about God. God is present with me whether I feel He cares or not. He tells me in His word that He does.

And furthermore, He says in 1 Peter that Jesus Himself will restore me. That's a divine reset. He will strengthen me. And I'm pretty sure that doesn't feel very good. When I go to the gym and get strengthened, it hurts some. He will secure me. And establish me.

I don't always feel so established. Sometimes, I feel like I'm grasping at God's presence at best. But He says, "Wait on the Lord. Be of good courage. He will strengthen your heart."

He has the power. Now. Today. He is present with me right now. I don't have to do anything special. I think when I especially feel His presence, this is me wrapping my mind around the truth that He is right here, powerfully.

Lord, be gracious to me. May you restore me, strengthen me, and establish me. I need it. Today. Blessed be the Name of the Lord.
